Can you bypass perfectionism?
Perfectionism has its upsides. It's good to do things well, to want to pay attention to detail. It says you take pride in your work. But perfectionism can also have its downsides. It can be a reason for beating yourself up, or for avoiding good work that you know you could do, and that you know you should do. But how do you set aside perfectionism? Do you need to change your whole personality and way of doing things? No. There's an easier way to manage perfectionism, and still be professional and get things done. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/impostor-syndrome-aus/message

Business 101 - How to feel ready to go into business
Businesses exist to make a profit. However, "profit" isn't limited to a financial one. The profit is financial, and emotional. And it depends on happy customers who also want to make their own "profit" from using your service or product. If you're feeling impostor syndrome about starting a business - as I did (with no business experience) - this episode will give you Business 101. We don't dive into the financials or legal stuff. Just the high level - what is business all about? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/impostor-syndrome-aus/message

The case for multitasking
Is all multitasking bad? I don’t think so. Multitasking is doing two things at once…or several things at once. Actually, it’s better to call it switch tasking, as you can only concentrate on one thing at a time. But there is a case for some multitasking, I think. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/impostor-syndrome-aus/message

The Love Ladder (this will help you through impostor syndrome)
Feeling discouraged? Have you started learning something which you thought would be very useful, but then you've given up? Are you chasing pleasant things, but really procrastinating? The love ladder will help you. A lot! What is the love ladder? It's a hierarchy of loves, of reasons (if you like) for taking action. The love ladder has three rungs. Things that are merely useful for something else, such as bitter medicine. Things that are desirable in themselves. They're pleasant (and may also be useful) Things that are fitting for you. They make you be who you're meant to be. Listen to the episode as I share some examples and tell you how these can help you when impostor syndrome is holding you back. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/impostor-syndrome-aus/message

What I learned as I taught my children how to drive
"I'll never teach my children to drive." That’s what I always said. But somehow I did, and will be starting to teach our fourth child in a couple of months. 120 hours of supervised driving before they can do the test to get their license. 💯 +20 As I’m teaching them how to drive, they’re teaching me how to teach. 👨‍🏫 Lots of storytelling, that has nothing to do with driving. 👨🏼👧🚙 They learn a lot about their dad, the love and sacrifices their mother has done for them. They learn a lot about business. They learn a lot about habits that may have nothing to do with driving. They learn to drive in a way that will stay with them for life. And I learn to correct them in a way that builds them up. I can’t crush them. And I can’t rush them. They need to learn step by step, with gentleness, kindness and learning lots of processes and habits as they do. One day, they’re going to have to drive without me beside them. Drive cars…and drive their way in life. And if all goes well, they live happily ever after. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/impostor-syndrome-aus/message

All very important, but you may be making it difficult for yourself and for the person you're trying to sell your services to. Here's a different approach...especially if you feel like an impostor. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/impostor-syndrome-aus/message

The Sneaky Symptoms of Impostor Syndrome
Impostor syndrome isn't just about feeling that you're about to be found out as a fraud. It's also got some more subtle symptoms. Some of them are: dismissing all compliments spending time on low-value tasks agonising over unimportant decisions negative self talk (beating yourself up can be your favourite pastime) giving up before you start Being able to identify the symptoms is the first step to treating them. The subtle symptoms are very sneaky, and sneakiness hates being exposed to the light. So, let's shine some light on them, shall we? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/impostor-syndrome-aus/message

The Perfectionist Monster - The Story of this Podcast
"You see, I'm a perfectionist." Have you heard that one before? I created this podcast with minimal ambitions, so as to fight the perfectionist monster. I started with no special microphone.  No editing No guests No commitment to regular episodes And not even any plans to build an audience.  I literally just hit record. Two years and 140 episodes later, I've now got some assets - the episodes - which can be used to share with an audience across different podcast platforms. There's a lot I could enhance - the podcast image. Create an email list to alert people as new episodes come out. Maybe associate episodes with chapters in a book I'm writing. But none of that would have happened if I'd started with thinking it has to be perfect. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/impostor-syndrome-aus/message

Unstress Yourself While You Work
When you feel overwhelmed - too many things going around your head - you can take some simple, practical steps to clear those out of the way permanently. Ask yourself a few questions: What’s the task? Why does it need to be done? Why does it need to be done by you? What’s the outcome? Focus on the benefits - immediate ones and long term. What’s the process? Can you automate this? Is there an app that can do this? If you were to teach someone else to do this, what would they need to know? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/impostor-syndrome-aus/message
