The Batman Or True Detective at The Black Parade
We watched THE Batman, and if you don't know which one, then you don't know your Batmans. While other podcasts may have a deep feel for the comics, know a lot about the movie history, we are just your out of touch weird aunts who saw the batman and had serious concerns about the hair choices. Our Flag Means Death or The Glamorous Pirate show
This episode we cover Our Flag Means Death, a pirate comedy that will unexpectedly break your heart. Are there amazing cameos? Absolutely. Are there gay pirates, full tea services on ships, telepathic seagulls? Of course. We discuss all the important themes, are pirates the punk rockers of the 17th century? Is this the original when Bowie met Iggy Pop on the high seas? Are you the Calico Jack of your friend group? Labyrinth or Jareth, Come Back!
Keeping our fingers firmly on the pulse, knowing awards season is just around the corner, we watched The Labyrinth! From 1986? The Jim Henson film? Yes, the very same. Have you seen it before? Hundreds of times and yet, we watched it again for the sheer joy of it. We talk about the origin story, the making of, helpful facts of course but also, wildly unbelievable fan theories. Could you say we weave through a Labyrinth of our own design? Almost, but no one would. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Eyes of Tammy Faye or The Eyes Have It
This week we watched the movie, "The Eyes of Tammy Faye." Having both watched the documentary, there was not much to learn, but the performances were fantastic. We talk about crafting yourself as a commodity in America and the downside when you don't deliver on your own product. We also get into doomsday prepping, underwater caving, and the legacy of puppets. Join as we look through our own eyes at The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Learn more about your ad choices. When Last Night in Soho lands you on The Boulevard of Broken Dreams
For the first movie of the year, we treated ourselves to a pricy rental. "Last Night in Soho," is the latest from Edgar Wright and is a beautifully styled, throwback thriller. It's not just the aesthetics that seem vintage, but it borrows from classic psychological thrillers visually and thematically. It answers the question, how difficult is it for a psychic to live in a city with a brutal history? Very difficult. Join us as we take our own trip through Soho and as Ruth weighs the options of Last Night in Soho to One Night in Bangkok. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

It Follows or How to Lose a Sex Demon in 10 Days
This episode we watched the film It Follows about a young woman who is trying to outrun the consequences of an ill-fated one night stand. Sadly, a round of antibiotics and a pint of ice cream will not suffice when you are facing what appears to be some kind of sex demon after a lackluster sexual encounter. Luckily, Jay has a group of great friends who help her try and survive the monster with many faces. Join us on our meandering journey as we battle our own demons on this week's episode. Lamb or Love.Angel.Monster.Baby
This week we watch A24's latest offering Lamb with Noomi Rapace. It is modern folktale that follows a grieving couple as they welcome their newest arrival. While we go through several theories that include telekinesis, we mostly admire a gentle horror that is more in line with the Grim Brothers than Carpenter. Some come to our meadow and frolic with us and the lambs. . Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Dune 2021 or Dune it and Dune it and Dune it Well
After revisiting David Lynch's Dune in an earlier podcast, we were very eager to watch Denis Villenueve's offering and it did not disappoint. This movie is crammed with so much talent, elegant styling, haunting atmospheres and apparently every Zaddy they could find available. Not that we forgot about sweet Timmy of course. It is a promising start and hopefully they'll be able to film the second part soon, because we can't wait to see a little carnivorous worm riding. Learn more about your ad choices. Squid Game or Red Light Green light, Dagona Candy, Knife Fight
This week on the pod we cover Squid Game and we managed to keep all our organs. We ask the hard questions, would a bowel movement count as movement during red light, green light? What kind of trauma would cause you to choose boy band burgundy as a makeover hairdo? And also, can anyone be ethical when the game itself is corrupt? We also talk about Squid Game. Midnight Mass or Grandpa's Vacation Disaster
We watched the newest in the Mike Flanagan horror anthology and just like a Priest wandering the desert, we were in for a rude surprise. While we had different reactions to this miniseries, we could agree there were a few flaws. Always glad to hear Neil Diamond, that is what we could firmly agree on. So join us as we plod through this long, dreary trek through the promised land where we find out if our communion wine has been spiked or if our supplements have just really kicked in. Showgirls or It's a Dog Eat Dog Food World
As we're entering fall, we're starting our "Could it be we're falling in love with movies" era and watching some of our favorite films starting with the cinematic masterpiece Showgirls. A film that manages to have made all the wrong choices and yet is so earnest, so wrong, it's won a place a in our hearts. We have a scrappy young woman who claws her way to the top of Las Vegas Nightlife with her own determination and nail art, overcoming Herculean obstacles only to discover that getting what you want is not necessarily the same as getting what you need. So watch out for anyone younger and hungrier coming down the stairs behind you, and join us for Showgirls. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Annette or Been Around the World with My Flying Baby
So this week we reviewed Annette and if you're looking for an unbiased review, you are not going to receive one. Blinded by our devotion to all things weird, Adam Driver's inexplicable charisma and Sparks charming score, it was difficult to watch this film with a critical lens. Were there flying puppets? Maybe. Were indulgent mistakes made? Who knows? Would we have watched 15 more hours of whatever was happening during this film? Absolutely. Join us as we try to come to terms with our feelings about the film, it's a journey. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Dune 1984 or Spice up Your Life
In our continuing series Summertime Sadness, your Auntie Ruth suggested that Auntie Jeanna watch all 2 hours and 15 minutes of Dune, the 1984 version. So what would happen if you took a saga with as much material as Game of Thrones, and tried to condense it into one film? Wonder no longer, because Dune took on that challenge. While David Lynch was not given full control, hours of footage were cut, and what we are left with is some Lynchian fever dream with the earnest Kyle McLaughlin trying his hardest to shoulder this beast with a little Spice, the adventure is worthwhile. And while no one could quite tame this sandworm of a film, its contribution to the fantasy/sci-fi landscape is undeniable. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Crimson Peak or You Live Your Life Like a Candle in a Waltz
So, we're entering into our Summertime Sadness series where Auntie Ruth and I choose movies that the other has never seen and we have the suspicion they may not like. While we are alike in almost every way, there are a few things we disagree on, and just like two freckled chicks without sunscreen, we've decided to take it up a notch and make this summer miserable. Now, we reviewed Crimson Peak which for reasons unknown, and loving all other Del Toro films, sent Auntie Ruth into a blind rage. We had to work through it and re-record, but join us as we tap into our own history with falling for the wrong goth and getting into a heaps of trouble, it surely contributed to our Summertime Sadness. Jennifer's Body or Sometimes Friendship Can Succubus
So for our last episode of Pride we get to reclaim Jennifer's Body. A film that has been resurrected much like Jennifer herself and achieved cult status over the years. It follows the path of a friendship that is severely tested by demon possession, but along the way shows the strength of the bonds formed between young women and the hell of being a teenaged girl. Priscilla, Queen of the Desert or I Have One Thing to Say, You Better Delta Burke
So we're striding into Pride this month and reviewing the classic film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. A story of a humble pilgrimage of self-discovery through the Outback, like Chaucer in Sequins, we discuss the impact of the film and it's continuing charm. With Guy Pearce, Hugo Weaving, and Terence "Kneel Before Zod" Stamp, it's literally packed with talent, like an overstocked makeup bag. So let's celebrate after a long, strange trip of our own this past year. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Wicker Man 1973 and 2006 Versions or Mind Your Business on Secret Island
After covering Midsommar wherein we mentioned the 1973 version of The Wicker Man as an obvious inspiration, we decided to go ahead and re-watch both versions of the film. I think if you are a willing student, these films have a lot to teach. The most important lesson of course being, if you find yourself on a secret island the first thing you should do is find the quickest route off that island. Barring that, asking a ton of questions is probably a bad idea despite your job description. So grab your animal mask and lute, and join us on a pagan journey where there is nothing we won't sacrifice for your listening pleasure. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Midsommar or Sometimes You're the May Queen and Sometimes You're the Bear
To welcome in the Summer we're covering Midsommar and crowning our very own May Queen! Midsommar is a divisive horror film and every few weeks on social media someone will post, was the boyfriend really all that bad? Well Your Weird Aunts had pretty strong feelings about it and I'm sure you can guess, we were fairly comfortable with the stranger elements. But join us in this fairytale gone horribly wrong and dance until you drop! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Let the Right One In or I've Never Met a Girl Like You Before
This episode we cover the Swedish classic horror romance, Let the Right One In. Ever since the book was released, based on the title of a Morrissey song, it's had our attention. It is a beautiful story about the nature of love and connecting with other people who see you as you are and love you for your authentic self. Having watched this film on it's release and re-watching it now, it's only grown more bittersweet and it really endures. So join your aunties chat about one of their faves, it's streaming on Hulu and consider revisiting it yourself if it's been a while. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Bram Stoker's Dracula or Love Never Dies, Just ask Satan's Brides
This week following our mini-horror marathon, we took advantage of Francis Ford Coppola's version of Bram Stoker's version of Dracula. A gothic romance, a tortured protaganist, an air of spirtualism and mesmerism as the dawn of the new age sees the last of the real magic dying, oh and what of the magic of love you say? I think you'll find it powerful. If you're looking for a different pace of film stuffed with practical effects and every in demand character actor of the early 90s you will be in for a treat.
