EP 480 YMC: Todays Employee Demands
The demands of the workforce today are changing - PERIOD! How are you getting on board? Gone are the days of employees asking when, where, how they work (today they simply tell you instead of asking you) - today work is secondary thought into our lives. You heard me right and the sooner decision makers and owners get on board to reverse engineer how we think about 'where and how' we work the better your nights sleep will be.  I could speak for days on this matter - so feel free in inviting me into your nightmare to work this out with you (LOL) but seriously - today on the 480th episode of #YourMorningCommute, I talk about this dilemma or rather reality AND how to GET AHEAD! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/yourmorningcommute/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/yourmorningcommute/support

Ep 476 YMC: Leaders: Decision Making Process
We make 1000's of decision every day, specifically 35,000 according to Google. Too much red tape leading us down the rabbit hole or leaping without flushing it out and including others - those are the two natural styles around high and low risk decision making styles and perceptions around a leaders decision making process.  But how can either style find balance? Ep 475 YMC: Putting a stop to unnecessary turnover
Turnover...ugg that 8 letter word turned into a 4 letter word on the daily now, but it doesn't have to be that way. Seriously...it doesn't. Unwanted turnover is the result of something else, something else inside the walls of your team - your organization. But what you may ask, and I am glad you asked. There usually isn't one reason but many - it could be the lack of alignment of person to role, or the lack of true inclusion - that total sense of belonging, or lack of defined expectations around hybrid or 100% remote work - it's a culture thing no matter how you slice it. The culture norms of how we do, what we do, when we work together - aligned, clear, rewarding, mutually agreed upon, and all parties held accountable. If you don't know where to start - you must start with inquiry - unpack, unravel it all to find all the 'leaks', breakdowns and build up those things that lift individuals and teams up.  Now, you can complain and say that is too much work - people aren't willing to change - or you can become a part of the change. You choose which role you want to play in what's happening around you with turnover. Don't get made at me - come with me and make a difference. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/yourmorningcommute/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/yourmorningcommute/support

Ep 474 YMC: Basics to create your internal university
Every employee needs basic soft skills, especially our people managers. When do we, should we provide this training? How?  In my humble opinion and experience, internally is the best way to create and deepen your culture norms. Start with the basics: Interpersonal skills, problem solving, decision making, time management, organization, and dependability to mention a few. Today on the 474th episode I discuss how these unfold, impact and intertwine with one another to build a strong and highly performing team - while creating a solid culture of what right looks like around training and development. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/yourmorningcommute/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/yourmorningcommute/support

Upskilling - one of the new buzz words. What is it? How do you roll it out as a culture norm? Why is it important? Is everyone looking to up their skills? (soft and hard) Can we afford to do it or is it more costing not to do it? What are the benefits individually, for the team and the organization? Ep 472 YMC: Culture Norms
What are your culture norms? Today specifically around meetings and training sessions? I had the pleasure of training a hotel leadership group recently and before we started the GM collected all the cell phones. Of course, I loved that...I could tell it was a culture norm for them as they were easily collected and placed in the back of the room. That is a great culture norm of how they 'meet and train' together to remain engaged and not tempted or distracted by their incoming calls, texts and emails. Ep 467 YMC: What you tolerate; becomes your workplace culture norm
Today I am curious, what do you tolerate in your meetings? When do you say something? Right then, never or complain in private? Today my podcast has a bit more of a serious tone. I hope you listen in and ask yourself what are you tolerating in meetings, trainings, conversations...when do you take a stand around culture norms. Are you accepting - tolerating - or making a stand? What you tolerate sets the tone of respect, trust and so much more in work environment. Is this how we want to lead our teams? Ep 466 YMC: Career Pathing
Why are we over complicating career pathing for our team members or ignoring it all together? Why aren't we starting from day one during new hire orientation to plant those seeds? Today on the 466th episode of #YourMorningCommute I layout some basics to get you started (if you aren't already deliberating doing this for every one of your team members). It starts with 3 things: •Connection - Building relationships with peers, managers, and mentors around skills, interests, and drivers is the (super) glue that drives fulfillment and retention. •Alignment - Making sure that everyone in the organization knows what they can do to contribute to the larger vision and mission of the company. This alignment is powerful for engagement and company growth. •Growth - Providing every employee with opportunities to grow—both personally and professionally. Growth comes from stretch assignments, mentorship, and formal learning --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/yourmorningcommute/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/yourmorningcommute/support

Ep 465 YMC: What Would Your Successor Say
It's a reflection kind of day and I hope you join me. Imagine passing the baton to your successor today, what would they say? How would they describe your leadership impact? What would they keep doing, shift or completely toss? It's a great way to reflect in order to kick yourself in the butt a bit to make that shift you have been wanting, dive deeper, lift your head up or keep stay on course. You decide. It's a great activity for your team to do individually as well, then share collectively. Today's 465th episode of #YourMorningCommute discusses this and a bit of a recap from this weeks #HRVA2022 SHRM conference. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/yourmorningcommute/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/yourmorningcommute/support
