Army Holds Commander-in Chief Trophy, Weekend Preview and a Talk with Former Navy DB Jesse Iwuji
And the Commander-In-Chief Trophy will stay at West Point for another season, as Army defeated Air Force 17-14 at Michie Stadium. Army will retain the Trophy outright with a win over Navy but a loss would award it by default back to the Black Knights. Price also recapped Navy’s disastrous 42-0 loss at Cincinnati. Our weekly “Game Ball” presented by Military.com goes to Army senior running back Darnell Woolfolk who capped a 21-play, 75- yard drive to start the game that took 12:55 off the clock by going in for the 1-yard TD run. All three teams were on the road last weekend and played three thrilling games down to the wire led by Army taking No. 5 Oklahoma to overtime before falling 28-21. Navy fell to SMU 31- 30 in OT, as the Mustangs went for two and the win in the first overtime period. Rallying from a 35-17 deficit, Air Force came up short 42-32 at Utah State. Chad Jenkins graduated from West Point in 2002 and walked off the field a winner in his final collegiate game, defeating Navy as the Army starting QB in December 2001. He went to serve as a member of the U.S. Army’s Elite 75 th Ranger Regiment and deployed the Iraq four times before joining the FBI’s Counterterrorism division. Tom O’Brien was a three-year starter for Navy at defensive end and is a 1971 Naval Academy graduate. He went on to become the head coach at Boston College and NC State and is now in his second season working as the color analyst on the Navy radio network. He talked with Price about his transition from the sideline to the broadcast booth, leading his Boston College team as a Navy grad into Annapolis for the first game after the Sept. 11, 2001 and how it was different than any other game he had coached. O’Brien also shared his feelings why current Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo has been so successful in Annapolis plus his son Dan working on the coaching staff.
