It made be WrestleMania week, but Wrestling Origins has thrown out the rule book on it's return to look back at 2001's Invasion. The boys relive the missteps in the angle and then review the first and only Invasion pay-per-view from 2001. The first...Royal Rumble for the title
For our first show of 2020, we're cheating a little bit but have been desperate to talk about this show. So Ash and Joel travel back to the golden age of early 90s WWF and look back at arguably the greatest Royal Rumble of all time from 1992. The first Rumble where the WWE Title is on the line sees a story arch woven throughout the show by Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan - in career high performances - as Ric Flair defies the odds of the best WWF has to offer. There's also chat on Piper, The Mountie, Hulkster, and of course Marty Jannetty. With a tear, in my eye, this is the greatest look back of Royal Rumble '92 I've ever heard. The first...Halloween Havoc
It's a podcast that goes bump in the night as we take you back to 1989 for the first ever Halloween Havoc - and it was a tough old watch. Ash and Joel take in a card over heavy with tag matches, including a main event cage match full of bells, whistles and swinging ropes - because why not? There's also chat on all the recent goings on in WWE, AEW and NXT as well as look back at when WCW fried one of their stars in a electric chair. It's a frightfully good listen! The first...SmackDown
After a massive week of wrestling, Ash and Joel look back at the first SmackDown on Fox, the first full network episode of NXT and the very first AEW Dynamite. Then, in the main meat of the show, we go back to April 1999 for the first-ever and pilot episode of WWF SmackDown. There's vintage Rock, peak Stone Cold, Vince pretending to be nice and a throwaway match holding five storylines together! All wrapped-up in a ninety minute window of how ridiculously fun the Attitude Era was. The first...King of the Ring
All hail the King! With WWE bringing back the King of the Ring tournament, Ash and Joel travel back to 1993 to relive the first-ever King of the Ring ppv. A show very much centred around Bret 'The Hitman' Hart, the boys discuss his three very different bouts across the card, wax lyrical on Mr. Perfect and look back at Hulk Hogan's last ppv match before his switch to WCW - and there's always a story behind a Hulkster bout. There's also chat on the current product and your chance to enter Joel's raffle for a rare piece of wrestling memorabilia! The first...SummerSlam
It's the biggest party of the summer and it's it began over thirty years ago with SummerSlam 1988! Join Ash and Joel as they look back at the first-ever SummerSlam event as The Mega Powers took on The Mega Bucks in a match that was expertly position in Hogan and Savage's legendary feud. Elsewhere from MSG there's chat on Ultimate Warrior's iconic title win, the stupidly long length of the opener and why Vince McMahon ever preferred Demolition over The Powers of Pain! The first...Extreme Rules
Ahead of next week's Extreme Rules pay-per-view, Ash and Joel travel back a decade to relive the first-ever Extreme Rules from 2009. A show that was lacking in real quality despite some of the biggest names of the era competing in 'Extreme' stipulations. The highs include Chris Jericho and Rey Mysterio's excellent Intercontinental Title feud and the main event between two ladder match experts. However, they are weighed down by the lulls of John Cena and Big show and the sorry state that was the ECW Championship. There's also chat on Umaga, Hog Pens, Bischoff/Heyman, AEW and what soap star CM Punk resembles in his 2009 guise. The first...AEW show
Saturday night saw a new era in wrestling begin and with it being the first AEW show, it makes sense to chat through it on Wrestling Origins. Ash and Joel rundown the card from Vegas and chew the fat over what was a memorable night for wrestling's newest player. They discuss how perfect Brother vs. Brother was, the impact of Jon Moxley's arrival and what AEW's success means for WWE and the industry as a whole. (Apologies for the slight sound issues and echos. We are working on this being rectified ahead of the next episode). The first...WWF Draft
Hot on the heels of this week's Superstar Shake-up, we go back to 2002 and relive the first ever brand spilt and the original WWF draft. Vince McMahon and Ric Flair go head-to-head as co-owners of the WWF and take turns in picking who they want on Raw and SmackDown in a classic episode of Monday Night Raw. Ash and Joel discuss how much better the format was back then, the brilliant personas of Vince and Naitch and the odd match that main evented the show. There's also a brief look back at WrestleMania, a celebration of Roddy Piper's birthday and a collective groan over The Viking Experience. The first...WrestleMania
As it's WrestleMania season there's one possible first we could cover for this episode and that's the event that gave birth to WWE's juggernaut event, WrestleMania I. Ash and Joel travel back to the era of Rock 'n' Wrestling as WWF roll in a wealth of mainstream faces to sell the biggest wrestling event of the time. There's Hogan and Mr. T in the main event Muhammed Ali as a red, Cyndi Lauper running to the ring and Liberace looking like he's at the best party of all time. There's was some wrestling in-between, albeit now much, but all that and the stories behind the event are discussed and debated in Wrestling Origins WrestleMania special! It's Royal Rumble week and that can only mean one thing, a look back at the first ever Royal Rumble from January 1988. Ash and Joel discuss the history behind the first ever event, including how Vince wasn't so keen on the idea, and then look back a curious card where the Rumble itself isn't even the main event. There's chat on the first ever televised contract signing - which steals the show - another appearance from The Jumping Bomb Angels and one of the worse segments to even find it's way onto WWF/E TV. All that plus the boys favourite Rumble moments and a chat on this Sunday's annual event. It's the first Wrestling Origins of 2019 and we bringing in the new year in the most apt way, by look back at the first-ever New Year's Revolution pay-per-view from 2005. Ash and Joel recall a show riddled with serious injuries that saw the Elimination Chamber main event a card for only the third time in WWE and hosted for the first and only time in Puerto Rico. There's also chat on the merits of Eugene, the direction of the women and even more man love for big Dave Batista. The first...Starrcade
Off the back of WWE's own Starrcade 'event', Ash and Joel dedicate episode two of Wrestling Origins to the first-ever Starrcade shows. Firstly they go all the way back to 1983 for the very first wrestling pay-per-view and it's very much wrestling from a bygone era. Ric Flair and Harley Race are main eventing, but there's much more to discuss including dodgy TV production, the wackiness of Bugsy McGraw and the most unnecessary post-match beatdown you'll ever see. We then turn attention to the first-ever WCW Starrcade as Lex Luger shares the main event slot with Flair, and enjoy a more familiar nostalgic feel to 1988's showpiece. Plus chat on dropkick's, Dusty Rhodes and even a cameo from the Wrestling Origins new mascot (pipe down!).
