#175: Croman the Barbarian and Leeroy Jenkins
Nick, Rei, Eric, and Harv are all back in this new year to talk about what's going on in World of Warcraft. First, Rei talks about how other people in her raid are not doing their preparation so she finds herself needing to do everything. She's using a profession add-on to track who can make what, and that is not working lately. Also, people are trying to bring alts in to the main progression raid, which is hampering their progress. Then she and Harv get into a discussion of how to play a hunter since Rei has been playing a hunter alt. Additionally, she mentions that warlock healthstones have been nerfed as they cannot be brought into Mythic + instances; they must be created in the instance by the warlock, as people were getting them from warlocks and then bringing stone into the instance. Eric found Croman the Barbarian in Torghast and now has him as a follower. Also, Order of Corrupted Souls was able to get through four more normal bosses to put them up to Sire Denathrius in Castle Nathria. Harv, meanwhile, still has not been playing much so he reviews how to use misdirect properly for Rei's benefit and briefly asks about the Great Vault. In the news, Complexity Limit won the world first race for Mythic Castle Nathria on December 23rd. Blizzard Cosplayer Jarod Nandin passed away from COVID-19 complications, and we extend our condolences to his family and friends. Blizzard announced World of Warcraft: Exploring Azeroth by Christie Golden. And Leeroy Jenkins made a cameo in the Politico Playbook this week. Our question of the week is which Warcraft character would you like to find as a mission table follower in Torghast? FInally, Nick looks back at episode 75 which featured talk about Nighthold and Heroes of the Storm. Thank you for listening to WoW! Talk! #174: More Shadowlands and 2020 Thoughts (feat. Cognitive Pit)
Ryan aka Cognitive Pit from Warcraft Reloaded is here to join Nick, Rei, Eric, and Harv in talking about Shadowlands and looking back at 2020! Ryan talks about his time in the Maw and gets into a discussion with Nick about mounting in the Maw. This leads to a discussion of Torghast and how the nerfs affected everyone, and how there is more Torghast coming soon. They also talk about flight and how it is so different being able to fly around in retail than it is having to walk everywhere in classic. Ryan mentions that he joined the Night Fae and Kyrian covenants on his characters. Rei then talks about how she needs a dropdown menu to be able to choose the right food for her priest when she runs out of mana in mythic+ dungeons. She and Eric have been raiding Castle Nathria as well, and have five bosses down, as they are currently working on the Council. Ryan mentions that he is tanking for his guild and they beat Denathrius. They all discuss their favorite fights in Castle Nathria. Rei starts a discussion about different tools to use to track your progress, including Wipefest and Warcraft logs. Harv, meanwhile, hasn't been on much to raid and has only managed to join the Night Fae covenant. Eric then talks more about his time in the Maw. Next, the gang takes a look back at 2020, and how it was mostly spent in Ny'alotha through the content drought. They compare it to Siege of Orgrimmar. Ryan talks about the year in WoW Classic and how it was busy with Blackwing Lair coming out early this year and then the Ahn'Qiraj event and now Naxxramas keeping everyone occupied. Nick asks some questions about if the content will burn people out. Next, they review the question of the week. Last week's question was "What Shadowlands zone is your favorite?" This week's question is "What are you looking forward to in WoW in 2021?" The gang talks about having a year of Shadowlands patches plus Burning Crusade in Classic, so 2021 is looking promising! Finally, Nick looks back at WoW! Talk! #74, when the race for world first Nighthold was going on. Thank you for listening to WoW! Talk! #173: Shadowlands Impressions (feat. Kurabara)
This week Nick, Rei, Eric, and Harv are joined by Kurabara from Dropping Spicy and Clan of Three. Together, the five of them chat about their initial Shadowlands reactions. Harv admits he hasn't been playing much lately because of real life but he at least got to level 60. Other than Nick, everyone else has reached max level on at least two characters. Harv admits that he wants flying already. Rei meanwhile has been focusing on leveling up her enchanting and Eric is working on blacksmithing. The group then talks about the rate of leveling since everyone seems to either have hit 60 or be on their way to hitting 60 with no problem. Rei and Eric talk about the carriages in Revendreth that need to be dodged, and apparently no one likes Revendreth. Rei, Eric, and Kurabara then talk about Torghast and how its much easier to run in a group. Eric discusses a strategy he has used where he can mind control mawrats and then have them spawn additional mawrats and then send them at a mob and have them all explode as a massive bomb. Rei then talks about her preparation for Castle Nathria as that opens this week. The gang briefly discusses the Threads of Fate leveling option, and Nick mentions some changes Blizzard is making to it to make leveling alts easier. Blizzard also hotfixed some issues with grouping and phasing. The metacritic score for Shadowlands is low. Wowranks.io is a new site tracking the statistics for Covenant choices. The gang then goes over last week's question of the week about songs for your Shadowlands playlist. This week, they ask which of the zones is your favorite? Let us know! Finally, Nick looks back at episode #73 when the Nighthold Raid had just opened. Thank you for listening to WoW! Talk! #172: Farewell Battle for Azeroth, Hello Shadowlands!
Nick, Rei, Eric, and Harv are back to look back at Battle for Azeroth and prepare to enter the Shadowlands! But first, Rei talks about running Mythic Battle of Dazar'Alor and how listener and Mash Those Buttons family member Kurabara has joined Order of Corrupted Souls. Nick tries to list all of the games Kurabara plays and it is a lot. She has also been running Alterac Valley (Korrak's Revenge) for the ram mount. Eric, meanwhile, has been running Alterac Valley as a druid and having fun trying to stealth attack people, even if it doesn't always work. Harv also enjoyed Mythic Dazar'Alor. Nick brings up that this is the final hours of Battle for Azeroth and asks everyone to reflect back. Harv rates it low, around Warlords of Draenor levels, and goes off on a tangent about Warlords and Legion trying to compare them. Shackles in the chat brings up the concept of Borrowed Power and Nick argues back with him about whether that is good for the game or not. Nick ultimately argues that something must be done, and Rei suggests a Guild Wars model of restricting the number of active abilities a player can choose. Eventually, everyone agrees they are glad Battle for Azeroth is ending, and while it wasn't anyone's favorite expansion, it wasn't completely hated. In the news, Blizzard posted an Engineer's Workshop about the new customization features that are available. Also, a new cinematic "Beyond the Veil" was released to hype Shadowlands. Additionally there is a new short story "We Ride Forth" about the Four Horseman raised during the Death Knight campaign in Legion, and how they prepare to face Bolvar. Finally, Blizzard released lo-fi remixes of the zone music from Shadowlands. Last week's question of the week was What Covenant you are joining, and Kurabara answered. This week, we ask what songs about Death would you put on your Shadowlands playlist? Finally, we look back at episode #72, which was our first patch quiz, in preparation for patch 7.1.5. Thank you for listening to WoW! Talk! Our next live show is scheduled for 12/07/20 at 10:30 pm E at twitch.tv/mashthosebuttons. For any scheduling updates, please follow us on twitter @

#171: Release Date Drama, Multiboxers, and Cow! Talk!
Nick, Rei, Eric, and Harv are back to talk about the latest goings on in the World of Warcraft! First, Rei talks about raiding with podcast listener Ramius and then discusses how the end of expansion raiding will work leading into Shadowlands. Nick then asks her about her covenant of choice. Eric then talks about leveling his warlock which leads to a chat about how warlock has performed and when the best time to play warlock was. Harv then chimes in with his issues trying to uninstall the beta that lead to him completely uninstalling and reinstalling all of his WoW install, and how he had 47 add-ons that he lost. (Although he doesn't need to reinstall all of them.) Harv then mentions how he was upset by the new Shadowlands release date of 11/23 since that is a bad week for him to play. Nick then goes into some comments that Adam from DBM and Ion made on twitter about how Blizzard isn't entirely happy with the release date either but really it was the only option for them to release it. Nick admits that prior speculation about Blizzard trying to get people to remember the company of old was incorrect and unfounded. They also talk about the Castle Nathria release date on 12/8. In the news, AMD featured WoW in a Radeon RX 6000 demo video. Shadowlands pre-sales are the highest of any WoW expansion, and could bode well for sales of the expansion itself. The WoW 16th anniversary celebration is going on now, with mostly a repeat of events from last year. And Blizzard announced that they will no longer allow players to use input-mirroring software that enables multi-boxing. In other Blizzard news, Activision-Blizzard needs to hire about 2,000 people across various franchises. The World of Warcraft: Comic Collection Volume One is on sale and Steve Danuser solved a possible lore retcon that irritates Nick. BlizzConLine will be free. And David Kim has moved from Diablo IV to Principal Game Designer for WoW. Our question(s) of the week for next week are: What Covenant are you choosing? and Have you see a cow? Looking back at episode #71, we review or memories of 2016 and look at some predictions made for 2017. Thank you for listening to WoW! Talk! #170: WoW! Pre-Patch Thoughts!
The gang is back to talk about all the excitement of Patch 9.0 finally going live! Rei talks about struggling to get her Grid add-on working with the new patch and also trying to fit all her abilities into her action bars. She also talks about raiding and wiping as people were adjusting to their class changes. Harv laughs that he didn't wipe because he focused on getting his DPS in now that corruption was gone. Eric was super excited over the unpruning of various abilities and was excited to have Chains of Ice back. He talks about raiding Vexionia and making a mistake because he was figuring out how to work all his returned abilities into his rotation. Harv is excited that corruption is gone and mentions that he transmogged his hunter weapon to Thas'dorah, the Marksman artifact from Legion. Nick also transmogged to use Thas'dorah as his weapon and talks about many of the character customization changes that were available in the barbershop, since he was the only one that went there. He also talked about how being able to use his legion artifacts has driven him back to Legion content to run old dungeons and work on his Balance of Power questline. The gang then discusses the old specializations and how unviable it was to have point in talents across multiple specs. Nick then mentions that he completed the Mecha-Done Achievement but it still working on unlocking the Junkyard title for the next few months, going into March. In the news, after wishing everyone at Blizzard safety with the fires burning around Irvine, they talk about Blizzard working to make the game play on older GPUs, Blizzcon 2020's date finally being announced, the Sprite Darter Wings, and a new Thrall statue that costs $600. Next week's question of the week is What do you think of the Thrall statue? Finally, they look back at episode #70, when Dave Kosak left for the Hearthstone team, which is funny because while recording Dave Kosak announced he was leaving Blizzard. #169: Before the Pre-Patch (feat. Mel)
Mel from Warcraft Reloaded is here to join us to talk a little about classic as we (at the time) wait for Patch 9.0 to drop on Tuesday. First, Rei talks about pugging and how people don't always listen and the struggles that can cause. Eric, meanwhile, caught the coronavirus, and raided (and recorded episode #168!) while infected. He was sluggish and so they didn't run the usual content but he made it through. Then they ran Ulduar and he got Mimiron's Head to drop! Harv talks about how he is upset about Shadowlands being delayed because he had to reschedule some time off and he probably won't be able to get vacation time at launch now, whenever that might be. He also expresses joy that corruption is going away in the pre-patch. Mel talks about playing in Classic and running the various old raids. She also talks about how she was recruited on to Warcraft Reloaded by Bob. In the news, the are reports of WoW Classic players tracking women's relationship status in a spreadsheet. Don't be creepy and don't do that. In retail news, Kaivax posted a developer update about improving the Maw and Conduits as a focus of the delay. Covenant Abilities were restricted to work only in Shadowlands, but that has been reverted and they will work anywhere. Kellen Goff has temporarily taken over for Chris Metzen to voice Thrall. And Battle for Azeroth is now included in the base game subscription. In other news, Activision-Blizzard has announced that they are closing the Versailles office and laying everyone off. This hits Nick particularly rough. And a Blizzard novel and manga Humble Bundle is available with a bunch of stories that is worth checking out! Our question of the week was What are you looking forward to in the pre-patch? Our next question is "How are you enjoying the Pre-patch?" Finally, we look back at episode #69 when Legion Legendaries were a problem. Thank you for listening to WoW! Talk! #168: Shadowlands Delayed and The Patch 9.0 Quiz
*After recording the main episode the announcement was made the Shadowlands has been delayed. We recorded a segment on that and put it at the front of the show. Nick, Rei, Eric, and Harv are back to talk about the impending release of Patch 9.0, except that we don't know when it is coming out. Nick talks about how he expected the patch to be last week or this week, but there is still no announcement from Blizzard, so he assumes next week on 10/6, but it could even be 10/13 at this point, although that would be very late. He also talks about how the Khadgar server was messed up during its server merge and that could be the reason why. Rei and Eric, meanwhile have been pugging as usual. Rei talks about pugging with a tank, and Harv shares that he does not enjoy tanking and really only enjoys DPS. Eric mentions that some guildies brought some friends along to give them a larger than normal group and they had fun. Eric then talks about playing on the beta and choosing a covenant since he was unable to get into Torghast. Harv, meanwhile, is working on getting stuff done before the end of Battle for Azeroth. He is working on earning corrupted momentos for his mount and so he's chain running horrific visions. He also is looking foward to finishing up the quests for the bee mount. In the news, Blizzard adjusted the mythic+ loot table to be lower than below Heroic Raid gear. Blizzard also released a character customization preview. They also provided some information on a situation where certain crafted gear from Warlords of Draenor was becoming unavailable. BlizzConline was announced for February 19th and 20th. Finally, Mike Morhaime and a bunch of ex-Blizzard developers have formed two new game studios under the parent company DreamHaven. Last week's question of the week was about what mount people voted for. The Ancient Tree won but respondents loved the Caterpillar mount. This week's question of the week is What are you most looking forward to in Patch 9.0? Let us know at @wowtalkmtb or wowtalk@mash.gg! Finally, it is time for the Patch 9.0 quiz! Play along and see if you can beat Rei, Eric, and Harv in your knowledge of what is in the pre-patch! Looking back 100 episodes, Nick talks about WoW! Talk! #68, right after Blizzcon 2016. #167: Pull the Cord, Fun with Pugging, and Caterpillar Mounts
Nick, Rei, Eric, and Harv are all here to talk about what's been going on in the World of Warcraft! But first, Rei starts off by talking about playing with her friends. This leads to a discussion comparing how quickly various dungeons could be run. Rei also talks about running Torghast in the beta, and then gets into some of the fun they had pugging, and everyone gets into a discussion about bringing alts with raid experience versus mains with no raid experience. Eric also played a little on the beta and raided on an undergeared demon hunter. Harv, meanwhile, is back playing WoW with a vengeance. He's been running on his demon hunter and checking out Bastion in the beta. He also doesn't like how his void elf looks running backwards. Nick talks about the recent Pull the Cord movement that has been encouraging Blizzard to remove covenant abilities from the covenants. He thinks everything will be okay and if people will be fine if they play what they want. In the news, Blizzard rolled back the requirements for playing WoW off an SSD. Nick installed an SSD computer so now he can be as up to date as everyone else. Then an argument ensues as Blizzard is letting players vote for one of five mounts for everyone to get for free. Let us know what mount you're voting for at wowtalk@mash.gg! Slimesaber is the right answer! Nick also goes over Ion's recent developer blogpost talking about the incoming patches and PVP itemization and more. Also, some spells are being taken off the GCD and leatherworking drums are being nerfed. Additionally, the secret pet Jenafur was finally found in Karazhan. In general Activision news, Activision-Blizzard has a new EMEA boss. Nick reads a listener email about his Garrosh rant from last week. Nick then looks back at episode #67, from before Blizzcon 2016. #166: On Pugging and Profanities
The gang is back to talk about all the latest goings on in WoW! But first, we have a release date! Shadowlands will be here on 10/27 (or 10/26 if you're West of Greenwich Mean Time.) Let the hype train commence! Rei starts by talking about pugging that leads to a discussion of warlock class changes over the years. This leads to Eric and Harv talking about when to use Timewarp. Rei also talks about helping to level a friend before Shadowlands changes everything. Eric goes back to talking about pugs and mentions that the guild struggles to pug with foreign players because of the language difference. Thus, Eric hates groupfinder. Harv, meanwhile, has been too busy to play. Nick goes off on a rant about how people were upset that Blizzard is removing Garrosh calling Sylvanas a bitch. Nick talks about how Steve Danuser defending the decision citing a developer who was playing the game with his kid. Nick then talks about how he plays the game with his kid, and the decision makes sense so he stands by it. He gets sidetracked citing a terrible PCGames article about WoW deleting its history. In the news, Blizzard put up a blog post about the tech used to support the Classic Gates of Ahn'Qiraj event. There is also a chart from reddit that summarizes the Covenant Dungeon bonuses. Blizzard is updating the Companion App for Shadowlands. In Castle Nathria, weapons will not drop, weapon tokens will drop instead. Blizzard also posted a blog post about Ray-Tracing being brought into Shadowlands. Also, the minimum specs for Shadowlands have been announced and it will require an SSD to play. The pre-patch could hit as early as September 22nd. And also, Blizzard released a new Arthas statue, which leads to Nick speculating that Arthas will have an important role in Shadowlands. Thanks to Kurabara, Zoua-Yao, Nathibaul, and Kariba for answering our question of the week (What games are you playing outside of WoW?) Also thanks to @xilev, @zulu_gaming, @flowrole, and @justjakgaming for answering our prior question of the week, What are you doing in WoW? #165: On Classic and Beta
Max aka Steelwolf from Warcraft Reloaded is here with us today as we talk about recent events in Classic. But first, Rei, Eric, and Harv are now in the beta! Rei and Eric have been playing and Eric is enjoying the return of long lost abilities. He also enjoyed clearing out his bagspace after copying his character over. Rei, meanwhile, has been tanking on retail. Steelwolf and Harv, meanwhile, participated in the opening of the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj on classic. Harv made sure to get his Scarab Lord title, while Steelwolf slept through it. They also talked about how on the Sulfuras server, some guilds got banned for griefing and then were blocked from completing the quest because people were killing everyone in Silithus, including the innkeeper. Nick mentions a server where the alliance and horde got layered apart. Harv talked about getting 1 fps at times. Overall, the event sounds like it went about as well as could be expected. Steelwolf talks a bit about recording Warcraft Reloaded. In the news, Reckful has an NPC in Shadowlands. Nick is excited for new hunter pets, and Steelwolf has questions about Pet Battles. The Shadowlands pre-patch is out, which would be consistent with a mid-October patch date followed by a mid-November expansion launch. Also, there is community drama over a new toy in Shadowlands, the Mirror of Envious Dreams, which gives the user the appearance of tier 3 gear seemingly endlessly. Finally, Blizzard employees have submitted demands to management for fair pay. Last week's question of the week was "What are you doing in game?" Thanks to Kurabara, Ali, Frazley, and Felblades for answering. This week, we want to know what other games are you playing other than WoW? Rei is playing Animal Crossing, Eric enjoys Death Stranding, Harv loves Star Trek, Steelwolf is into retro-gaming, and Nick touts Arcade Spirits. Let us know what you're playing on discord or twitter or by email! Finally, we look back at episode #65, when everyone finally got to raid and run dungeons in Legion. Thank you for listening to WoW! #164: Content Lulls, Xbox Series X Theories, and Blizzard Ain't Paying Enough
Nick, Rei, Eric, and Harv are here to talk about all things World of Warcraft! Eric is in the beta, but he hasn't played much. He comments briefly on playing a mage in Exile's Reach, the new starting experience. This leads to a discussion of bag space. Harv has been playing classic and poked around the Ahn'Qiraj events. He still has aspirations of getting the Scarab Lord title. He also slept through raid last week. Rei has running with several pugs lately. She, Eric and Harv review their performance, and Eric gets stressed out. They talk about pugging at the end of an expansion and compare BfA to other recent lenghty content lulls. Harv shares a story where he stacked acceleration on Thok back in Mists. Nick considers the recent rumors of World of Warcraft coming to the Xbox. While he doesn't believe them, he speculates that we may not get a launchdate for Shadowlands until the Xbox launchdate is announced, as perhaps Shadowlands would be a launch title. He also considers that WoW may not be explicitly coming to Xbox, but with Xbox gamespass allowing Xbox games to play on your pc, maybe it can also allow pc games to play on your XBox. In the news, major changes to Pet Battles are on the Shadowlands beta. Also, the Blizzard Gear store has a Vol'jin statue. And in late breaking news, Jason Schreier at Bloomberg News released a report that Blizzard underpays its employees. Nick looks over the report and says Blizzard probably should pay more but needs more information. Our question of the week is What are you doing (or not doing) in World of Warcraft? Finally, we look back at episode #64 in the aftermath of everyone hitting 110 in Legion and Chris Metzen stepping away from Blizzard. Thank you for listening to WoW! Talk! #163: On Classic w/ Blazzin Bob
Blazzin Bob, formerly of Watchpoint Radio and OWL Recap, joins us to talk about his new show Warcraft Reloaded! But first, Nick, Rei, Eric, and Harv are here to talk about what's going on in WoW. Rei got two BoE's at once and also has been tanking on an alt while Eric dps's. This leads to Bob and Eric chatting about tanking, and Nick asks about swap mechanics in classic. Eric then talks about getting into the beta and everyone raves about the enormous number of customizations that will be available in Shadowlands. Nick watched the Devolver Digital Expo and talks about how Blizzard should use the inspiration of Devolverland to make Blizzcon a virtual experience on the back of their MMO technology. Bob talks about launching Warcraft Reloaded and his passion for WoW Classic. He talks about how he met his co-hosts Steelwolf and Cognitive Pit. He talks about missing dual spec and having to choose between raiding or PVP'ing. He and Nick reminisce about drain tanking as a warlock. He talks about the upcoming Ahn'Qiraj patch and the preparations players are already undertaking for it. In the news, the Steamscale Incinerator mount is available with a six-month gametime subscription, or for $25 in the store. Blizzard is dropping the store fee for changing your character's gender; that will now be available as a feature at the barbershop when Shadowlands launches. #162: The Community and the Livestream
WoW! Talk! would like to extend our condolences to the friends, family, and community members affected by the deaths of Reckful and Hasteur. Rei, Harv, and Eric haven't been doing too much in game beyond raiding. Nick talks at length about the recent spate of sexual assault and harassment accusations that have rocked the WoW Community, including what appears to be the downfall of Method. Nick suggests that this is a good year for Blizzcon to skip as it allows the community greater time to heal. In the news, the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj are being tested in WoW Classic and the patch will be going live soon. Nick stumbles through trying to describe the faster Legendary Cloak upgrades that have been implemented in the game. He also mentions that new realm connections are coming, though no actual realms have been announced yet. Also, pre-orders for Small World of Warcraft are now available. Through PODCAST MAGIC we then jump ahead to a discussion of Wednesday's live stream. Nick and Harv speculate on when the game could release. Nick appreciates the Collector's Edition but laments the $120 price tag. Nick runs through the features for Eric including beta starting next week, the new Covenant information like Soulbinds and Conduits, The Sanctum where you'll get improved mission tables and special activities, and the Theatre of Pain dungeon. Harv points out that Torghast will allow for unlimited runs. Overall the beta is shaping up nicely. Finally, we look back at episode #62, when Legion was about to launch. Thank you for listening to WoW! Talk! Our next live show is scheduled for 7/20/20 at 10:30 pm E at twitch.tv\mashthosebuttons. For any scheduling updates, please follow us on twitter @wowtalkmtb. #161: Destiny 2 vs WoW
This week the gang is here to talk about the latest WoW news and more! But first, everyone talks about how they haven't had much time to play WoW lately. Rei is tired, Eric is IRL busy, and Harv just moved. Even Nick has been checking out other games. Instead, Nick talks about the recent Destiny 2 expansion announcement and compares Destiny 2's development to WoW. In particular, he talks about how they are sunsetting old content to a vault, and tries to imagine how Blizzard would handle such a thing if they did. Harv and Eric agree that WoW should never do such a thing. Nick also talks about his experience in a game like Destiny where, as a casual player, he doesn't know quite what's going on as well as he does in WoW where he is an expert, and discusses how its important to remember there are people playing WoW who don't know what is going on in this game. In WoW Classic news, Blizzard is testing the opening of the gates of Ahn'Qiraj on the PTR. Nick talks about whether they are going to implement the resource grind the same as in vanilla, or if they are going to up the required numbers since people have already been hoarding resources, so the experience would not be the same as it was in 2005. Also, Blizzard banned 74,000 accounts in WoW Classic for botting, and Eric is surprised. In retail, the Maldraxxus zone preview is up, and the zone is open in the alpha. Also, Blizzard is limiting the rate of transactions players can make on the Auction House in response to heavy usage by add-ons. Weekly Timewalking will be a thing for the next five weeks, and Nick thinks it should stay around longer. And wowhead interviews Sebens, a mythic tank who plays without his hands. Our Question of the Week is "What content from WoW that was removed do you miss most?" Finally, we look back at episode #61 when Legion was imminent and we were getting ready for new content. Thank you for listening to WoW! Talk! Our next live show is scheduled for 7/6/20 at 10:30 pm E at twitch.tv\mashthosebuttons. For any scheduling updates, please follow us on twitter @wowtalkmtb. #160: Cancellations and Bobby Kotick
Before we begin, we'd like to offer our support to all the brave men and women protesting the gross injustices of systemic racism. We support #blacklivesmatter and look forward to a world that is truly equal for all. Rei and Harv are TIRED this week! Rei starts off by talking about raiding but plenty of people aren't showing up and this is the point in the expansion where its okay to take a break. Eric was working on transmog for an alt, but did at least use his main for Vexiona. Harv is busy moving and hasn't played much outside of raid. Nick talks about running Torghast more on the alpha but even he's getting tired lately and can't run it as far as he'd like. Nick then talks about Blizzcon being cancelled which everyone expected. They talk about the virtual event that will possibly happen in early 2021 and wonder if this could signal that Blizzcon will be in February every year going forward. They also talk about the Shadowlands livestream scheduled for 6/9 being cancelled due to the protests. Nick mentions that it was not likely to be a zone preview and it must be introducing some new feature like possibly an auto-battler. Harv hopes for a date for the pre-patch. Also in the news, Blood Elves and Void Elves have new customization features that will allow them to look like high elves among other things. Nick and Harv take a moment to mourn the loss of wowtoken.info. Nick looks at an article where Activision-Blizzard shareholders are calling for Bobby Kotick to step down as Activision-Blizzard CEO. Nick talks about Kotick's longevity and the fact that he continues to generate revenue. This leads to a discussion of how Blizzard's reverence for the latest protests clashes with their reluctance to support Hong Kong and Blitzchung, and has many people calling out the company for hypocrasy. Our question of the week is "You have one Level Cap Boost -- What would you use it on?!" Finally, we look back at episode #60. Nick and Harv get into it about the camera changes in the Legion pre-patch. #159: On Leveling, Raiding, and the Arbiter
This week the gang is back to talk about what's been going on in WoW. First, Rei gets into how the guild did raid content out of order and messed up their plans for the week. They also ran Normal Nya'lotha with alts. Eric then chimes in to talk about how more raiding with more people leads to a better raiding experience, and in particular cites the Vexiona fight as having mechanics that are easier with more raiders. Rei then gets back to talking about how it is hard to reach out to people across various social media platforms. Harv and Nick focus on leveling. Harv talks about how much easier leveling is in retail WoW, while he and Nick lament how difficult it is to level in WoW Classic. Nick is in the alpha and talks about trying to level through Warlords of Draenor content and how either it is not quite implemented or he is doing it wrong. He also talks about a test run for Torghast and otherwise trying to avoid main questing content in Shadowlands. In the news, Blizzard is adding Corruption vendors to WoW. Also, Blizzard released a preview of Oribos, and Chinese players are begging Blizzard to fix the gold sellers in the Pacific realms. The gang reviews answers to last week's question of the week, and this week, JoannaxBella in the chat asks, "You have one level cap boost - what would you use it on?" Finally, Nick and Harv look back at WoW! Talk! #59. Thank you for listening to WoW! Talk! Our next live show is scheduled for 6/8/20 at 10:30 pm E at twitch.tv/mashthosebuttons. #158: Our First Online Experiences
The gang is back to talk about the latest World of Warcraft news! But first, Rei talks about raiding when people are out sick. She complains that people tend to miss raid in groups rather than one at a time, which is odd. Also, Order of Corrupted Souls defeated three bosses with alts, and they then resumed working on mythic +. Eric talks about his new sword and the proc effect he is excited to have. He mentions that he is not as unhappy with Horrific Visions as he was. Harv messed up on N'Zoth but what he did caused the second try to work better so it worked out for everyone. Also, he is feeling the content drought after rushing to get his reputations done with the Rajani and Uldum Accord. Nick is excited to finally have run a Horrific Vision and have his cloak. But he also wants to talk about Mike Morhaime's recent comments about WoW losing some of its stickiness by making the game easier to play as a solo player. Ghostcrawler chimed in to point out that for many people, WoW was their first online game interacting with other people. Brack also commented that he thinks WoW has a good balance and looks at Classic and Modern WoW as one entity. This leads to a discussion of what everyone's first online experiences were and Nick talks about trying to balance difficulty against the pull of keeping friends together. In the news, Ion did another interview about Shadowlands. Activision Blizzard is now fully work-from-home and will cover employee's COVID-19 costs. Also, during their earnings call they announced bookings were up 21%. Finally, Luke Smith from the Destiny 2 team teased an upcoming expansion with "You are not prepared." Our question of the week is "What was your first online game?" Then we look back at episode #58 which featured Adam from Deadly Boss Mods. Thank you for listening to WoW! Talk! #157: Corrupted Gear - Bad! Horrific Visions - Bad! Torghast - Good!
Hola! The gang is here to talk about all the latest news in World of Warcraft and the Shadowlands Alpha! First, Rei talks about what's been going on with the Order of Corrupted Souls and raiding Heroic Ny'alotha. The high ratio of melee to ranged is hurting the guild and Eric is so frustrated that after having to step away from the raid last week, he is looking to try it as a DPS so he can see if standing in the fire is an unavoidable as it would seem. Rei also talks about struggling to get people together online since people seem to ignore various chat requests. Harv has been playing more, and this week complains about Corrupted Gear. He's tired of all the randomness associated with the various procs and just how much it can cause damage to fluctuate in a raid. He would like some more consistency. Rei suggests not looking at the meters but Harv admits he is too trained to do so. Eric, meanwhile, is tired of Horrific Visions. He tried doing it with one mask and hated the experience. He would rather run straight Horrific Visions or even just Mythic 0 content. Nick talks about Torghast in the alpha, although he hasn't played it. He mentions that most of the alpha players who have tried Torghast love it, and it has gotten a warm reception. The floors are supposed to be randomly generated to go to infinity. If you die too many times, the Terragrue will start chasing you down. This seems to be where you will acquire the materials to craft legendaries in Shadowlands. Overall, Nick is excited. In the news, the Blizzard is buffing reputations for the next month. Also, the experience buff is now permanent until Shadowlands pre-patch. There may be an autobattler coming in Shadowlands as part of the mission table. Shadowlands will feature new character creation menus. WoW has added controller support. NPC's will look at you in Shadowlands. Draenor and Broken Isles Pathfinder is not required for flying in those zones in Shadowlands. Steve Danuser tweeted out about some placeholder alpha text that had people concerned about the Forsaken. CEO Bobby Kotick gave all Activision Blizzard employees his phone number to discuss the Covid-19 outbreak. A WoW fan server unleashed a plague to demonstrate Covid-19 prevention. Chris Metzen read a story to children as part of Blizzard's Take Your Child to Work Day. Finally, we look back at episode #57 from June 2016. Thank you for ... Visit website for full summary. #156: Covenant Abilities and Eric's Alts
The gang is back to talk about all the latest news in World of Warcraft including the alpha for Shadowlands that is now live! But first, Rei talks about the Order of Corrupted Souls guild's success in defeating Heroic Nya'lotha. They discuss how they had to use puggers to replace some missing regular roster raiders. They also ran some horrific visions. Nick brings up the live alpha and they talk a little about when Shadowlands may release, as Eric is concerned that we could be in for another year of the final raid. Meanwihle, he is excited to finally be able to drop his death knight tank and instead focus upon other classes, although he does not know which class he should play. Nick suggests druid after pointing out he hasn't played a druid in quite some time. Nick brings up the Covenant Ability debate that has been enraging the community of late. Players are concerned that Blizzard will not be able to properly balance the Covenant Abilities, and that switching Covenants will be too difficult a process, or that players will be forced to choose a Convenant based on the ability and not based on other factors like style or aesthetics or other rewards. Ion did an interview where he mentioned that there will be other powers from the Covenant that are not just the ability, so they will have many points to balance from, but players are still concerned. History suggests Blizzard may cave on this decision at some point. Also, in the news, Blizzard shared a ton of info about Shadowlands in advance of the alpha going public. Some classic character transfers are now free. And Blizzcon 2020 is currently planned to happen, but we do not have a date yet. Finally, Nick looks back at episode #56, when talent swapping had the community upset during an expansion beta. Thank you for listening to WoW! Talk!
