EP 196 // Taking Space and Singing the Melody // Emily Snyder
“You're not going to get picked apart in the support role nearly as much as somebody gets picked apart in the melody or the spotlight role."   I have been texting friends I want to catch up with and asking them to come over to the studio to record a podcast as our hang out. It's a real win win. This episode is with my good friend Emily Snyder, who was a guest on two of our bonus episodes from season 3, linked below. She's an incredibly smart organizational consultant and she's worked in lots of women's groups. But our conversation ended up being about giving ourselves permission to take up space, being sovereign of our own lives, and singing the melody even though we are altos. Each story and metaphor she shared was so relatable, and I hope they speak to you too.   Listen on: Apple Podcasts  |  Spotify  |  Google Podcasts  | Stitcher   Links mentioned: Listen to Emily on Bonus Series // Worthfull Home // Special Guests Listen to Emily on Bonus Series // Worthfull Work // Special Guests Follow Emily

EP 195 // Expressing Worth with and without Words // Heather Francis
“Maybe owning our worth with our words is about being calm and trusting that we know the right channel and medium to communicate what we're trying to communicate."   My good friend Heather came back on the podcast after a couple of years to talk with me about ways she's learned to communicate her worth without words . . . and when words are really useful. If you didn't catch Heather's first episode, she's a dancer by background and works in arts education. As we were talking, I had a revelation about my natural style of communicating and how I've been operating outside of that for a long time -- but it's time to come back to my natural aesthetic language! I really loved this conversation, mostly because it was for me.   Links mentioned: Listen to EP 130 // How Our Bodies Teach Us Our Worth // Heather Francis Follow Heather

EP 194 // What's Special About Being Specific // Christine Baird
“What happens when we're courageous enough and clear enough to be specific about what we're up to?"   I'm back with a solo episode (a week late) and this one is about something I've been mulling on for months/years, but has really hit home for me lately. It has to do with the worth of our words when we are specific -- especially when it comes to our work, our values, our decisions, our relationships, and more. Something I've noticed that I get much more excited and inspired by someone who is specific about what they are up to in the world than someone who is vaguely broad in how they talk about themselves or their work. I'm trying to get specific when I talk about what I do, believe, care about, etc. It's a work in progress, but I believe it's helping me align my words with my worth.

EP 193 // Choosing What to Say and Not Say // Elise Gubler
“Listening can be a way to align your words with your worth."   My dear friend Elise Gubler came on the show to talk about her experiences with worth and words as a PR professional for both a large international church and now as a MBA student in her mid-30s. I love Elise for many reasons, but her insight about why it matters what we say (and don't say) on public stages and in private situations is really great. This is something I think about a lot and I hope you get as much value out of the conversation as I did. Links mentioned: Follow Elise

EP 192 // What to Do Without Clarity // Kristen Metzger
“The best stories are the ones with turns and twists that you're not expecting."   My dear friend Kristen Metzger, who you just heard from 2 episodes ago, was back in town, and while we were catching up, I asked if she wanted to turn the mics back on so that we could "process out loud" what we've been learning about pursuing our purpose when we don't know what that purpose is. She obliged, and we have another episode for you. Does this mean that Kristen becomes my co-host for all of Season 6? I hope so. I love Kristen and I loved talking about the connection between our words and worth and purpose with her. Links mentioned: Kristen's first WP episode from this season Follow Kristen

EP 191 // Nourishing Ourselves with Kindness // Christine Baird
“It’s what we take into ourselves that we then communicate to others in some form or other. Maybe that’s what we see in the faces of the holy ones. What glows so brightly in them is the serenity and kindness they have nourished within themselves all their lives." - Sister Joan Chittister   I read this quote on one of my favorite blogs this month and saved it immediately so that I could record a podcast episode about it. I think this is such a beautiful way to describe aligning our words with our work. What if we all could be holy ones, if we nourish ourselves with serenity and kindness -- so that THAT is what we communicate with others?   Links mentioned: Sister Joan Chittister's Monastic Way blog

EP 190 // When There Are No Words // Kristen Metzger
“Can you feel like a contributor when you're just in a receiving space?"   I asked my good friend Kristen Metzger if she would come back for a second appearance on the podcast to start exploring what it means to have our words match our self-worth. The twist here is that Kristen is trying to be on vocal rest to heal some vocal damage -- and she's a professional actress, singer, and salesperson. We had a fascinating conversation about the silent retreat she attended in Portugal, the distractions she discovered that words can be, and when there are no words to communicate our worth. I love Kristen and I loved bringing back guest conversations on the show with her.   Links mentioned: Kristen's WP episode from 2019 Follow Kristen

EP 189 // Let's Align Our Words with Our Worth // Christine Baird
“Being honest is always interesting." - The Boy, the Mole, The Fox, and The Horse   Welcome to Season 6 of the show! I feel lots of gratitude to my past self for starting it in 2017 and lots of gratitude for my present self for continually finding ways to keep it enjoyable, creative, and nourishing. I still love podcasting, what can I say? This season I feel pulled to explore what it means to align our words with our worth. What I mean by that is how to share what we know is true with the world while keeping our self-worth, boundaries, and relationships alive and well. I'm also excited to share that I'm bringing back guest episodes this season! I've taken a 2 year hiatus from them and am ready to share conversations around this topic with longtime friends and peers who I respect and know have wisdom on this. Subscribe to the show on your favorite listening app -- we'll be dropping episodes at least bi-weekly (or maybe weekly if I decide haha).   Links mentioned: Seth Godin blog post The Boy, the Mole, The Fox, and The Horse

EP 188 // 3 Big Takeaways from a Year of Worthfull Work // Christine Baird
“When I'm clear about my worth and where I'm focusing it, it is much easier to make big decisions about my work."   It's the final episode of season 5 of the show! It always seems to surprise me, but especially this year, I just realized that it's the end of the year and the end of the season. I've really loved exploring the theme of worthfull work this year as I've been expanding my own work and business and growing far beyond my comfort zone. I summarized my 3 biggest takeaways from this year when it comes to owning my worth at work in this episode. I invite you to do the same -- I'm proud of us. Let's keep going because the world needs our worthfull contributions through our work.

EP 187 // Mirrors For Our Worth // Christine Baird
“You don't just get acknowledged every day for what you're developing, what you're learning, how you're evolving."   I hosted a little gathering at my studio a couple of weeks ago for some of my friends and peers who work in media production. It was such a dreamy, cozy, intimate day sharing perspective, wisdom, ideas, and validation that we have in-demand skills but we don't want to use them to make just anything. I have been digesting what I learned since then, but I wanted to share one of the takeaways for me that related to worthfull work. I learned that sometimes the easiest way to see the worth of our work is to listen to a peer and let them be a mirror of the worth of what we do.

EP 186 // The Long Game // Christine Baird
“It is inevitable that we will be impacting people so much more than we will ever realize over the long haul.”   I have been thinking about impact over the long haul lately. Partly because it's coming to the end of the year and I'm thinking about what I contributed and made this year, and partly because I always feel the responsibility to make a good impact through my work in media production. I read two quotes recently that put me in a good perspective on this -- because there's actually no way to fully understand the impact our work has. It's a long game, so let's play it full of worth.   Links mentioned: Alex Steele newsletter Amila Dulic quote Sister Joan Chittister

EP 185 // Easy Magic // Christine Baird
"I've learned a different way to value my work, my contribution, and to communicate that to the people I work with."   I just spent a week at a couple of lovely client events in California and I'm reflecting on how different my way of working has evolved from my early days of media production and event programming. I have worked a lot of events in the last 8 years, and most of them were completely exhausting. After I left LA, I thought my days of working events were done because I was so burned out from them. But after the pandemic, and after my own work worth and boundaries had evolved, I realized that I could set different parameters for how I could work. That's what I did, and it has completely changed my experience working events. I wanted to share how I've evolved my relationship to this kind of work from being pure exhaustion to what I call "easy magic."

EP 184 // Working with People Who Get You // Christine Baird
"When we are willing to take a read on the room every time we get into a workflow with someone else, that goes miles to help us make sure we are respecting their worth and that can be reciprocated back to us."   I've been learning a lot this year about showing up to my work in the way I want people to see me so that I attract the work I want -- which means the people I want to work with. It's relevant to me because I own my own business and choose my clients and co-workers but I think it's relevant to all of us because we all do work with other people and we want them to "get us" and our worth and respect it. I'm sharing 3 ways I've learned to work with people who get me, and no surprise, that means that I respect their worth first.

EP 183 // Consuming Worthfull Media // Christine Baird
"It's a wild time for us reckoning with the effects of the media that we've created."   I am being a little tongue-in-cheek with the name of this episode because my company's name is Worthfull Media. However, it literally means media that shows someone's worth, which is my goal with all the work I do. As I've been investing in my own values-driven work and business, I've been thinking a lot about how we consume media and how it affects our worth. It's a wild web to untangle, but I think it's so worth it, and I'm sharing some of the ways I've learned to make worthfull media choices for myself. EP 182 // Working with Human Design // Christine Baird
"It's been really positive for me to trust that my worth is behind my intuition and energy and if I paid attention to it, it would guide me to the work that I'm best built to do."   You've maybe heard about Human Design as a trending way to understand your personality and energy. It's a system for understanding yourself that's been around for a few decades, but it's really hot right now in the world of self-development. I've been slowly learning about my own design for the past year or so and it's been really interesting and helpful for me to apply to how I work, what I work in, and what to pursue in my work. I wanted to share this on the podcast during our worthfull work season because I think the idea behind human design is very closely related to owning our worth at work. EP 181 // Working in Seasons // Christine Baird
"We work best in seasons. Our worth understands seasons."   I've been having the same conversation with friends and clients lately and it's about how we are humans, not machines, and that means we have different energy and productivity capacity in different seasons. That means seasons of the year, seasons of work, seasons of life, seasons of relationships, seasons of energy, and more. How much we produce will never change our worth, but it will change how we feel about ourselves, especially if we aren't honoring the season we are in.

EP 180 // Do Less, Do Better // Christine Baird
"If you want to shift people's lives, do less." Alexandra Franzen   I read something in an email from writer and book coach Alexandra Franzen last week that resonated deeply. She said, "The simplest product or service is often the best. If you want to shift people's lives, do less." I was inspired to record an episode on this idea for our season of worthfull work because I think it's key to owning our worth in our work. The myth of more has never been more dominant than now, but it doesn't mean that it's true.

EP 179 // The Vulnerability of Expansion // Christine Baird
"When we are doing worthfull work, there's an expansion that happens and a vulnerability that goes along with it."   You know the vulnerability that comes from making something new and inviting other people to see/watch/read/listen/use it? I've been feeling that this week as I mailed out invitations to the opening party of my new studio. It reminded me that the vulnerability of expansion isn't bad, but it usually shows up when we enter new waters in our worthfull work.

EP 178 // Moving from Foggy to Aligned // Christine Baird
"Oftentimes the fog is super valuable, even if it's super uncomfortable most of the time . . . it's valuable if we decide to find value in it."   I'm sharing some perspective that I now have from the last year -- specifically how I moved from a foggy hibernation professionally to an energetic creative period with an abundant flow of clients. I believe that foggy hibernations can be very valuable and important, however uncomfortable they may be. But I also believe that it's really helpful to have some guideposts to follow as we step by step make our way out of them. That's what I'm sharing from my own life -- I hope it serves you in some way.
