WorshipLeading.Net Podcast Episode 3 - Questioning Your Faith
Today's podcast is an interview that we recorded with some friends at the Reckless Pursuit Podcast with Cody & Elaine Johnston as well as my good friend Ben Valentine. I encourage you all to check out their podcast as they tackle some of the big questions in Christianity that nobody is talking about. 6:50 - It's okay to have questions even when you are in leadership in the church. 8:30 - simply having someone to dive into the questions with has been a huge help in my life. 8:58 - Sometimes if you have questions, it is the prompting of God to go and find those things that are going to strengthen your faith. 10:30 - if you didn't have those moments of questions and doubting then you would be living by fact and not by faith. 12:30 - how can I believe some things when "science" points to the opposite? 13:12 - Sometimes the answer to our dichotomies is simply yes. Both could be correct but we are only looking at the things from one particular viewpoint. 15:45 - eyeball creature... 18:30 - by someone asking questions, sometimes others feel like it is challenging their faith, and it scares them to think about. 19:00 - one differing viewpoint that may be wrong does not negate the truth in everything else. 21:00 - the questions pull you deeper as you keep searching things out. 24:00 - If you are looking for other people's answers then you will never have your own true identity. 29:15 - what is some advice to give new Christians who are asking and questioning. 30:00 - Doubting Thomas didn't have any questions that the other didn't have... God already encountered them and showed the others what they needed. Thomas just hadn't encountered Jesus again yet. 31:15 - Thomas was still with the group 8 days later even though he "didn't believe" and was questioning everything. 33:00 - There is no better place for a person questioning their faith than to be in community with a group of believers. 34:00 - At some point, we were all that new believer with questions. 36:00 - "I'll think of the questions that I can't answer, and then remember the questions that I can. Then when I get to heaven I know what I'll be asking for at least the first 30 minutes." - Ben Valentine 38:45 - How do you live by faith in a fact-based world? 40:35 - You can debate somebody into Christianity. 50:29 - It's easy to question God when bad things are happening in our lives; however, we can reflect on the times in our lives that God has provided to get us through these seasons. It's in moments like this that our faith grows. 51:56 - In those seasons of questioning, how do you respond and handle those moments? 56:00 - focus on what I know is true, and then wait until the time comes when God answers the question.
