 To celebrate our 45th anniversary. WOCNCB President Jessica Simmons speaks with WOCNCB Certified Janice Colwell, Mary Gloeckner, Bonnie Rolstad and Ruth Bryant to highlight the specialty, inspiration to become certified and the changes in the specialty, their practice and role over the years. 

At Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Los Angeles the WOCNCB Certified Nurses team serves as leaders, educators, consultants and administrators. Kristen Benavides BSN, RN, CWOCN interviewing S. Joga Ivatury, MD, MHA, Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery at Dell Medical School and currently practices at Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas in Austin. They will discuss the important role a Certified Wound Ostomy Continence nurse has in both the inpatient and outpatient setting providing essential support and education to patients.

Jessica Simmons MSN, APN, FNP-C, CWON, DNC is the WOCNCB Board Liaison to the JWOCN and shares how these articles can be used as an exam prep tool along with some basic studying tips. These articles are an excellent resource to help prepare for WOCNCB exams and are free open access articles available on the JWOCN® online site.

Gina Day Day BSN, RN, CWON® and Lydia Beal BSN, RN, CWOCN® are filling a gap providing expert clinical care virtually. Learn how they established an online clinic to provide access to care and develop step by step care plans for each patient, helping patients live life with confidence.

Star was a nurse for critical care and trauma in Acute Care before becoming a Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse in 2008. She remained in Acute Care until 2018, when she was given the opportunity to start an Outpatient Clinic at UC San Diego Health Moores Cancer Center specifically focusing on Ostomy patients.

Jeanine Gleba, the Advocacy Manager at United Ostomy Associations of America (UOAA) discusses the value of specialty nursing with Joanna Burgess-Stocks a Certified Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse (CWOCN). Across the country, there is a huge gap in access to Certified Ostomy Care Nurses. Hear the positive difference access to a Certified Ostomy Care Nurse has on patients, families the health care facility staff. Joanna will discuss the specialty education and clinical skills needed for specialty nursing certification.

Lisa and Sarah are volunteers on the Professional Growth Program Committee, otherwise known as the PGP Committee and will be explaining the difference between Professional Practice Points vs Specialty Points for the Professional Growth Portfolio and also touch on the PGP Audit process.

Hear from George Salamy, a longtime volunteer on the board of United Ostomy Associations of America (UOAA) and a former WOCNCB Public Board Member and Public Policy committee member. George has lived with an ostomy for 40 years and shares the positive impact a WOCNCB Certified Nurse can have on patient care, quality of life and outcomes.

Jill Trelease DNP(c), FNP-BC, CWON, CFCN, Clay Collins APRN, FNP-BC, CWOCN, CFCN and Jonathon BSN, RN, CFCN discuss the motivation of becoming a CFCN and the value and benefits it brings to their work setting and patients.

As a CWOCN In the Acute Care setting, Kristen is the go-to expert for wound and ostomy care. Kristen shares her knowledge and educates clinicians RNs, MDs, as well as, patients and new parents on a variety of topics from wound assessment and dressing techniques to self-ostomy care. She is grateful for the opportunity to have a positive impact on her patient's lives and hopes to inspire others.

Susan Solmos, MSN, RN, CWCN interviewing Janice C. Colwell, RN, MS, CWOCN, FAAN of University of Chicago Medicine. Janice has practiced as a WOC nurse for 40 years at the University of Chicago Medicine, most recently in the outpatient stoma clinic.

Jessica Simmons, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, CWON, DNC is a nurse practitioner and shares her experience as the "go to" person for any wound and ostomy condition in a hospital based nurse-run physician supported clinic.

Holly Hovan MSN, RN-BC, APRN-ACNS-BC, CWOCN-AP is an advanced practice registered nurse at the Veterans Affairs Northeast Ohio Healthcare System, proudly serving those who have served.
