INUIT SIGN LANGUAGE, a sign language signed only by those in the Inuit community, is nearly an extinct language. It could go the way of MARTHA’S VINEYARD SIGN LANGUAGE, which unfortunately is entirely extinct but in its heyday nearly ever resident of Martha’s Vineyard signed it. Why would unique dialects of sign language exist within a community for generations and then one day disappear? Emigration for the latter and ENDOGAMY for the former.
