Episode 134: Morning Routine

Morning Routine

What is your morning routine? Are you the fall out of bed and rush right into the day type or the lay in bed and play on your phone type? Maybe your morning routine is just hitting that snooze button over and over. Either way – technically it is a morning routine, but not exactly a morning routine that helps to set you up for success.

Today we are talking about morning routines (if you haven’t guessed) and you will learn the importance of a morning routine, how it helps set you up for success, and how it helps you heal your body or maintain your health. No matter where you are on your wellness journey, a morning routine will carry you through to big wellness benefits.

Intro

Welcome if this is your first time listening  – I’m Audrey Christie – I’m a functional and integrative nurse nutritionist and energy medicine practitioner. I help women start their very own Autoimmune Revolution so you can stop chasing symptoms and learn how to heal your body from autoimmune disease.

Are you a morning person?

It’s okay if you aren’t!

I know not everyone is a morning person, and I am a bit partial to morning routines because I am a morning person. But equally important – is an evening routine which we will cover that next week so stick with me through this and come back for that episode too. Even if you aren’t a morning person, establishing a morning routine WILL help to revolutionize your morning and the rest of your day. After all, is what you are doing now making your morning delightful?

Let me share a story with you…

Not long ago I posted in the Wellness Circle about morning routines – and I listed a cute graphic that had some morning routine information on it. It said each morning to cleanse and refresh, attract abundance, connect mindfully, ignite clarity and creativity, self-heal, be open to change, manifest, and nurture with self-love.

The reaction I got was a resounding WHAT THE HECK? WHO HAS TIME FOR THAT?

And my response was like huh? That takes 30 min or less – I do that first thing each day!

So I am now making it my mission – you are welcome – to change your mind and get you started on an awesome morning routine. I had no idea so many people didn’t have one! This will actually create MORE time in your day and help you heal from autoimmune disease or stay healthy and well if you aren’t on an autoimmune journey.

Morning Routine Steps

I could totally give you a list of steps to a morning routine, of which you would likely implement all of them and then fail. Because just like anything else, a morning routine is very individualized.

Why is a Morning Routine Important?

The benefits are so vast, you may even find them unbelievable!

Have a morning routine helps you to:

  • Gain time
  • Be less forgetful
  • Improve sleep quality
  • Improve your productivity
  • Reduce your stress levels

And those are just what happens when you do the generic morning routine versions! You can supercharge your morning routine to create so much more for you!

Morning Routine Example

Here’s my morning routine, I do it every day, even on the weekends. It takes me just shy of 30 minutes and then I head out to workout and into my office for work.

1. I wake up a few minutes before my alarm (most of the time) and this is just perfect. Your day will start so much smoother if you can get in the habit of waking in time to stop your alarm before it goes off. During the week, the alarm is set for 4:30 and on the weekends, I get up usually around the same time, maybe 6 if I stay up a little later.

2. I grab my water, usually in my Gemstone Well Elixir2Go bottle. I keep it ready either on my nightstand or in my meditation spot. It’s a 17ish ounce bottle – so I can usually finish it before I sit down to meditate.

3. I head to the bathroom to pee – embarrassing I know – but we all do it! Who doesn’t have to pee when you wake up? I also use my tongue scraper at this point too. It gets rid of all the gunk collected on my tongue overnight.

4. Next I head to my meditation station (which is a cozy corner in my office) and take a seat. I begin the deep breathing exercises, taking about 5 deep breaths. I usually also light a candle or put some oils in my hand for a scent tent. I generally choose my oils intuitively and stick with one oil for a few days at a time.

5. Once I feel that shift, I settle into a 15ish minute mediation.

6. Then I pray and journal things I am thankful for and sometimes affirmations.

7. Then I do a quick couple of sun salutations or mini sals mixed in with my morning energy routine.

8. Lastly, I head to the closet to get dressed, and that all happens between stepping out of bed at 4:30 and walking out the door to workout with the neighbors at 5:00a.

Spending all of that time, taking care of me, creates the time and space to do everything I want and need to do during the day. As I mentioned I also pair it with an evening routine, but we will talk more about that next week.

If for some reason I sleep late, I still do this first thing. Traveling – yup still do this first thing. Camping – you betcha.

Once my workout is done the ritual continues with a walk and some grounding, then coffee and home office to work.

I want you to think about what your goals are and how they can be enhanced by how you start your day.

To wrap this up…

To wrap this up – starting a morning routine or enhancing the one you have is simple and creates a big impact! Spending a little time on you sets you up to have so much more time in your day. You can also reduce that brain fog, enhance your sleep, reduce your stress levels and all of that serves to enhance your immune system, the benefits truly go on and on.

Thank you so much for tuning in, if you have a second it would mean the world to me if you could leave a rating or review! That helps me help more people get clear of autoimmune disease. I’d be oh so grateful.

I hope you have the most magical and restful day friends, and I challenge you to leave your world, however you can, a little better than how you found it when you got up this morning.

Be well.
