Citizen Kane - The Final Episode!
In our final episode of What A Movie, we revisit the conversation that started the entire podcast and discuss the monolithic classic of American cinema, Citizen Kane. If you don't know what Kane meant when he said Rosebud, you should watch the film before listening. If you watched it and have no idea what Kane was talking about when he said Rosebud, you should listen to this as soon as possible.

The Big Sick
With Michael Showalter directing and Kumail Nanjiani & Zoe Kazan starring, The Big Sick is a pretty safe bet. A bet that pays off very very well. It doesn't hurt that Holly Hunter and Ray Romano do a lot of the heavy lifting once the plot kicks into high gear. You'll notice that this episode is shorter than most. That's what happens when the movie is so rock solid that there's almost nothing to say about it afterward. Honestly, if you skipped this podcast and just watched the movie, we'd understand.

Poltergeist
In the early 80's Steven Spielberg was hard at work undermining the very concept of a PG rating. Between Poltergeist, Gremlins and Temple of Doom, he gave the MPAA reason enough to invent the very concept of PG-13. These films were just unsettling enough to get under anyone's skin without being so explicitly gory that audiences had to be capital-R restricted. Neither Swinky nor JJ have seen this film so they're both allowed to guess the plot until their heart's content. And, guess they do. Wrongly, for the most part. Poltergeist stars Craig T. Nelson, Jobeth Williams, Heather O'Rourke and the absolutely inimitable Zelda Rubinstein.

The Fighter
Massachusetts Misfits Make Good is basically a genre unto itself at this point. Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale star in this one (giving us a break from regular Massachusetts Misfits Made Good Ben Affleck and Matt Damon), which happens to be about boxing, hot tar roofing, familial exploitation and pavement raking. That's right, you get TWO blue-collar jobs for the price of one! Amy Adams rounds out the cast as the love interest, bringing all together as a 2-hour actathon where everyone is the winner! Tears will be shed!

Gone Girl / World War Z
Swinky was asked to chose 2 films this week and choose she did! First up is the David Fincher thriller Gone Girl, starring Batman as Ben Affleck. As with most Fincher outings, Gone Girl is a rock solid piece of art from start to finish. Second to be hit by our HEAT BEAM OF JUDGEMENT is the military-porno World War Z starring Brad Pitt and an ensemble cast so accommodating to Pitt's every whim that it strains credulity. Good news to all of you who complained that neither of these films have had their plots summarized in rap form: now they have been! Pull up an infectious disease, stab yourself with a needle and enjoy this episode of What A Movie(?)! For more everything, go to www.iceblock.tv or www.swinkymusic.com.

Police Academy / Spaceballs
It's a celebration of all (two) things Michael Winslow - Police Academy and Spaceballs! Police Academy is the ensemble comedy from the 80's that turned 5 million dollars into nearly 150 on the strength of non-consensual sex jokes, gay panic jokes and racist humor (It's OK! It's the bad guys saying the racist things!). Spaceballs, when placed next to Police Academy, is an exercise in restraint. But, that doesn't mean the laughs came steadily, even though the jokes certainly did. And, now a block of text for the search engines: Steve Guttenberg, Kim Cattrall, Bubba Smith, Hightower, Mel Brooks, John Candy, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Joan Rivers! Wasn't that fun?

The King Of Comedy / Gangs of New York
Who knew that Martin Scorsese could inspire so many freestyle raps about method acting? Don't believe us? Just put this episode into your brain holes and soak in the rhyming goodness. J.J. and Swinky watched the bleaker-than-bleak dark comedy The King of Comedy (Robert De Niro and Jerry Lewis) and Gangs of New York (Leonardo DiCaprio, Sir Daniel Michael Blake Day-Lewis, Cameron Diaz). Both films are incredible (duh, Scorsese) and the follow-up conversation is a pleasant breeze through what makes them so very succulent. For more everything, go to www.iceblock.tv or www.swinkymusic.com. Cheers!

The Chipmunks Adventure / An American Tail
This one is for the fans of animated films featured singing, globe-trotting anthropomorphic rodents! We know you're out there and we're thrilled that you're joining us as we discuss two 80's animated films, The Chipmunks Adventure and An American Tail. Swinky has never seen either of these so she's coming in as clean as white sheet of paper. While J.J. has some blurry memories of the films from his childhood, he could hardly be considered an expert on either. We know that What A Movie(?) isn't a competition, but if it were there would be a clear winner in this matchup. Which film do we prefer? Well, that would be telling, wouldn't it? For more entertainment, please visit www.iceblock.tv and www.swinkymusic.com. There's heaps of content, yo! Exclamation mark!

The Addams Family
Swinky knows of The Addams Family but has never seen the first film. J.J. has been swimming in Addams Family ephemera since he was but a lad skipping merrily to school. Does Barry Sonnenfeld's debut interpretation of Charles Addams' classic cartoon hold up in the modern world? Raul Julia and Angelica Huston do, that's for sure.

Cabin In The Woods
SHOCKtober continues with modern day classic spookstravaganza The Cabin In The Woods! Directed by Drew Goddard, this is the second consecutive film we've watched to have Chris Hemsworth and Sigourney Weaver (and also not have them meet on-screen... coincidence? WE THINK NOT!). Not to blow the lid off the pot too early, but it seems like the horror-averse Swinky might actually be warming up to the genre, even if she won't admit it outright.

Ghostbusters (The One With Women)
It's the most wonderful time of the year: SHOCKtober! If you don't like Halloween (You monster!) then you might not should listen to this SCAREstravganza of an episode. If you are one who goes in for GHASTLY, GRISLY, GHOULISH movies then this one is right up your alley. Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones are the new boys in grey slugging it out with pesky poltergeists and, boy-oh-boy, they bring it home. Also, Swinky cries in this episode.

Keanu
Always the passionate cat-lover, Swinky has been looking forward to Keanu for exactly as long as she's known it existed. Always the passionate Keanu fan, J.J. has too. Everybody gets their wishes in this episode. And, we mean everybody.

Madea Does Some Stuff
Tyler Perry is one of the biggest names in filmmaking - he's the rare auteur with an empire. JJ has never seen a Madea movie (or a Tyler Perry movie). He knows the basics, but guesses completely wrong on the plot. Maybe that's because the title changed between the opening section and the review section.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens
It's a very special What A Movie(?) as we not only watch a Star Wars movie that Swinky enjoys but we also welcome Tokyo's Resident Inventor Joseph Tame! Good marks across the board for the movie! But, don't let that fool you; the conversation is lively and passionate throughout. It's not all fun and games. Swinky grills Joseph about his life as a marathon live-streamer. Can he take the heat? Can he? There's only one way to find out: Listen!

Commando / Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart
We're seeing double! Double films, that is! J.J. and Swinky don't always have time to do a full episode for every movie they watch and that's they're doubling up. First up is Arnold Schwarzenegger's kaboom-boom classic Commando, a shamelessly pandering entertainment marathon that J.J. somehow manages to suck the fun out of. Next is the French animated film Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart. Never heard of it? Neither had J.J. or Swinky, but it won them over full stop.

Magical Michael XXL
In the newest installment of everyone's favorite family-friendly male stripper saga, Magical Michael learns the true meaning of Stripper Christmas and teaches it to his hard-body buddies! Twists and turns abound as neither J.J. nor Swinky have seen this one. At the end of the day, one message rings truer than any other: Be yourself and all your stripper dreams can come true!

Join us in a round-table discussion about the movie Labyrinth and the impact David Bowie had on our lives. And, what a table it is! All About Eve
What A Movie(?) is nothing, if not current and that's why we're covering the drama classic, All About Eve! We are joined by Michelle Madden for two reasons - she has a unique perspective AND her name is so much dang fun to spell! This episode is brought to you by cotton swabs, bricks, hand carts and blueberry jam.
