When it comes to equestrian hobbies, most of us think we have heard it all, well at least I did. Until I met Elizabeth Tinnan.  She is spearheading a movement that is taking off across the horse world. Elizabeth Tinnan is the President and Horse Archer at Chattahoochee Horse Archers, Inc and their mission is to promote and grow the sport of horseback archery throughout the Southeastern United States.  She serves as a board member of Horse Archery USA , and teaches mounted archery clinics across the US. Dressage is something I’m passionate about, and so is Michelle Gerlach.  Join me as Michelle talks about the ‘Nuts & Bolts’ of dressage and describes her “Balance before Brilliance” approach to riding. Michelle Gerlach is the owner is Sabal Row Farm and has been a professional dressage instructor and trainer for 25 years, she has been through the USDF “L” Program and earned a USDF University Bronze Diploma. She has earned her Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals.  She takes weekly lessons with author and previous USET Team Member Kathy Connelly. Summers shift to monthly clinics with “S” Judge, Sue Madden-Mandas. Michelle has developed a methodology for teaching that includes not only the “hows” but also the “whys.” Using bio mechanics, diagrams in the sand, and occasionally her own body, she thoroughly explains movements, half halts, collection, and seat position to her students. On this special episode of Welcome to the Barn, I talk to Aine Shortall and her mom Pamela via Skype from their home in Ireland. In June of 2015 while competing in Showjumping Ireland at the Cavan Equestrian Centre, Aine & Flying Star took the runner-up spot in the 128 Under 10’s Premier Pony. The video went viral and made her an internet sensation. It took a while, but I was able to catch up with her and have a chat about the video, her thoughts on it, and what she plans next. *As a followup, Aine and Toorboy Tommy placed 7th overall at the Royal Dublin Horseshow in the 128 cm National Championship.  Congratulations to Aine and Tommy! She completed her residency in Neurological Surgery and fellowship in Neurosurgical Oncology at Vanderbilt. She also completed a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Neurosurgical Oncology at the Centre for Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery in Sydney, Australia. Currently she is Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Her areas of expertise include The impact of metabolic disorders on brain cancer, • Tumor Morphometry and • Traumatic Brain Injury.
