We Gotta Talk About...Education ft Black in PUSD
Education is a super important topic and not necessarily one that isn't discussed, it's just always discussed within a certain space and amongst people who reap all the benefits of being educated. So...we're here to talk about the things that those people didn't experience. From the perspective of BIPOC who felt out of place, had students verbally attack them, and had teachers who were never invested in them.On this episode we were able to talk with Nene and Ekene, the students behind Black in PUSD, an account which shares first hand accounts of racism in a school district in San Diego. TW // during our interview with Black in PUSD Nene and Ekene discuss stories of being threatened by white students which may be triggering to Black folx.Check out Nene and Ekene's page on IG @BlackinPUSD for stories of how racism has affected BIPOC in the Poway Unified School District. You can find their podcast, Culture Talk on your favorite podcast platform, and their website full of amazing resources at ethnucation.com. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

We Gotta Talk About...Latinidad and The N Word ft. Odalys Jasmine
We gotta talk about our guest!! We have a very special guest on this episode in honor of Latinx Heritage Month.  Odalys Jasmine is a master storyteller and proud first generation Hondureña/Catracha. She joins us on this episode to discuss Latinidad with Maya who is a first generation Dominican-American. Latinidad refers to the various attributes shared by Latin American people and their descendants. However, this is not inclusive of those who do not speak Spanish, those who identify first and foremost as Black, or the many Indigenous folx in Latin America who identify with their tribe and reject colonial borders. Jasmine and Maya discuss this concept as well as their unique perspectives as children of immigrants from two very underrepresented parts of Latin America - Central America and the Caribbean. Check out Jasmine's podcast Hella Latin@ Our second topic, another heavy hitter, is the N word. Why will this word forever be something we have to debate and discuss? We dive in to our own experiences with the word, how our generation perceives it, and how it changes with each generation.  This episode is the last full episode of this first series. Stay tuned for more episodes after a short break! Articles referenced by Caiteezy for today's episode:  https://amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article/596872/ https://theundefeated.com/features/if-you-truly-knew-what-the-n-word-meant-to-our-ancestors-youd-never-use-it/ https://www.oprah.com/omagazine/oprah-interviews-jay-z-october-2009-issue-of-o-magazine/8 For more perspectives on Latinidad and Latin American/Caribbean culture check out these folx: Migrant Scribble - Afro Zapotec poet, artist, and immigrant Alán Pelaez Lopez, creator of #latinidadiscancelled Bad Dominicana - Badass artist, critic, and speaker Zahira Kelly-Cabrera Ain't I Latina - Platform founded by Bronx born Garifuna Janel Martinez. Bag Ladiez Podcast - Two Bronx Dominicanx tryna be better & make you better too Radio Caña Negra - A podcast which focuses on Black Latin American experiences.
