Warp Zone Nerds Ep. 05 – A Case of the Mi.N.Ds
Welcome to the first round, with possibly many more to come, of the Miniature Intellectual Debates (Mi.N.D.s). The nerds gather together for a semi-civilized round of debates. The parameters that are set forth...there are no parameters. Thomas, Michael, and Bobbie enter Nerd War One as they go over and as the tough questions. Each gathers their own set of questions that they want the others to debate. The topics up for discussion include:Which of the Doctor's companions are the best, Donna or Amy? Which school is better, Xavier's School for the Gifted or Hogwarts? Are the Sith evil in Star Wars? Who would win in an AI battle, Siri or GlaDOS? If Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark switched towns, who would do better? Who's the better shot, Malcolm Reynolds or Han Solo? Finally, the nerds have a super power off as the final debate which results in splitting the earth into two a few times before the winner is decided.By the conclusion the nerds learn that Thomas and Bobbie will take over the world, the Jedi are ISIS, Thomas's solution to all problems is to kick them into the sun, and that Michael is really bad at trash talking.Do you think the nerds left anything out? Do you have any ideas for future debate topics? Do you think any of their decision were wrong? You can always email them at firstname.lastname@example.org to let them know. Warp Zone Nerds Ep. 04 – A Nanny Named Smaug
Ho, ho, ho, and a Merry Gurnenthar's Ascendance to all from the Warp Zone Nerds. In honor of the happiest time of the year, when the world becomes a frozen hellscape and ancient tunes spread forth from mall speakers everywhere, The Nerds have gathered around a crackling Netflix video fire to discuss the many holiday specials that roam the television landscape each year. They will plumb the depths of early 90’s cultural exposition to find specials you vaguely remember watching as a child, or in the case of a certain draconic nanny, specials you never wanted to watch in the first place. In the spirit of the many holidays, the nerds explore the concepts of family and togetherness, and come closer together through a discussion of their road rage and embarrassing musical tastes. An argument in favor of Hanukah, that utilizes Superman and an armadillo, is examined and given thumbs up all around. The nerds also break down their favorite specials of the season. Michael gives his nod to the Colbert Christmas Special, for its frank take on the Festival of Lights. Bobbie and Tom lean towards the Community special, because it feels more like an episode and less like a yearly obligation, and it’s the one special to try and justify Christmas to non-Christians. The nerds also take a brief moment to discuss their own holiday traditions. Michael is transported back to his childhood for eight solid nights, Thomas faces a Christmas themed Fear Factor, and Bobbie might eventually get around to putting up a tree at some point. Michael also gets to experience true horror as he sees who is hiding under the skirts of The Ghost of Christmas Present. So grab yourself a heaping plate of latkes, light the beeswax candles, and put on your earbuds for the Warp Zone Nerds (Not Christmas) Christmas Special. The post Warp Zone Nerds Ep. 04 – A Nanny Named Smaug appeared first on Warp Zone Network.

Warp Zone Nerds Ep. 03 – Thanksramblings
Once a year, the nerds, like most people, feel the need to gather around a table and express gratitude for the events of the past year. A ritual that has no name, but represents a sort of giving of thanks for pop-culture events. This year the nerds decided to revolutionize the world by giving the ritual a name...Thanksrambling. Thanks, to express gratitude, and rambling because no matter how hard they try, when Michael, Emily, and Thomas gather around a microphone, they cannot form a coherent sentence or thought.History shall remember this episode as the first of many Thanksramblings to come. Here the nerds ramble about the upcoming massacre known as Dumb and Dumber To and come to the conclusion that it will inevitably be something for which they are not thankful or possibly the world’s most surprising dramatic film to date. They also opine on Neville Longbottom’s bathroom habits while Sirius Black was confronting the story’s main characters. Thanks will be given for many a subject, from the presence of awesome feminists like Emma Watson in the media, to the many many projects helmed by Disney/Marvel this year (and the other, lesser, Marvel projects helmed by other studios). Animation will get a heaping pile of gratitude for such gems as Big Hero 6, The Book of Life, and The Boxtrolls. Finally, everything will be awesome when the Nerds remember The Lego Movie. Some of the biggest summer blockbusters will receive either thanks or shame, depending on the nerd, and even a memorable video game or two will get a nod. Expect discussions on Captain of America, godlike drug addicts, and a few choice fibs. Also, enjoy the pleasing imagery of Adam West playing a disturbed 12 year old boy.So, put on your headphones and grab a turkey leg in one hand and your sonic screwdriver in the other. Click play and prepare to embark on an epic journey to what will forever be known as ”The First Thanksrambling.”If the nerds left anything out, you can always email them at email@example.com. The Reality of Our Shame 1 –“Why Watch Reality Television?”
Why do we watch reality television? Can we write it off as a social experiment at its finest? Is it people-watching to the highest degree? There seems to be a simultaneous cult following of, as well as a social taboo against reality television. The Reality of Our Shame explores the shameful pastime of enjoying reality television and explains why someone might possibly want to watch it. In this first episode, Katie and Jasmine reveal the start of their respective forays into reality television. What got them hooked? What keeps them watching? Can they come to terms with the fact that they watch certain shows? Katie and Jasmine explore topics from Toddlers and Tiaras to Master Chef, from delighting in the wisdom of children to chanting the self-affirmation of "At Least I'm Not That Guy." They also consider production and editing techniques and even suggest, horror of horrors, producing their own show in the Warp Zone Network's recording studio. Now it's your turn. We want to know: why do you watch reality television, or if you don't, why do you think people watch reality television? Warp Zone Nerds Ep. 01 – Warp Zone Pop-Heads & Nerd Culture
What is a nerd? How have nerds run their reputation in the ground? Can anything be done to salvage the label of nerd? What exactly goes into fantasy supreme court? After a short hiatus, The Warp Zone Nerds are back to answer these pressing questions and more! Thomas, Michael, and Bobbie are returning in a brand new way to talk about nerd culture while still embracing some of the things they did when they first started out. What better topic for this nerd culture group to cover than just that, nerd culture. The Nerds discuss how nerd culture has developed over the years and include how it has improved and gotten worse. Problems include racism, sexism, death threats, and more. Incidents range from what happened with GamerGate to the response that the “Mass Effect 3” ending had. The Nerds do not just talk about problems though, with a lawyer, teacher, and journalist on board, they definitely have ideas for possible solutions to improve what is already there and repair the problems of nerd culture. If that is not enough, the Nerds also discuss Bobbie’s Lincoln slash-fic, why Tom’s twerk doesn’t work, and why dictionary.com’s definition of a nerd hits Michael hard. Listen to the first of many new and entertaining episodes to come from the Warp Zone Nerds.Do you like the Warp Zone Nerds and are interested in more of their shows and other podcasts?
