136 - You DON'T have to "dent the universe"
The famous Steve Jobs quote goes something like this: “We’re here to put a dent in the universe. Why else even be here.” And while that’s inspiring for some, it’s not the only perspective in life. Also, we can think of a million other reasons to exist as a human that don’t require trying to dent the universe. In this episode, we want to deconstruct some of these big aspirational quotes that get shared constantly around social media. There’s a lot of ego at play in the “dream big” messaging and the constant striving for trying to impact millions of people. If you’re anything like us, and if you listen to this podcast we think you are 😘😘, we’re here to tell you that having smaller goals and focusing on “enough” (in audience size, revenue, etc) can be incredibly impactful and rewarding. We also love that we can focus on making a change in a tiny group of people’s lives and that feels right to us! 🐑 Check out the Airbnb we had to abandon in Holmfirth: https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/49283125 ✈️ Our pramvel stories take you through our worst Airbnb of this year and how we had to make a mid-stay move to an entirely new place. 135 - Trying to cultivate more satisfaction
When was the last time you caught yourself scrolling through IG, Pinterest, etc, and wishing you had the exact kitchen, outfit, aesthetically “perfect” office, completely passive income business, etc? We live in a time when we don’t just see what our neighbors are up to, we’re now trying to keep up with billions of people. In this week’s episode, we wanted to talk about how these thoughts are affecting us but also how we’re trying to combat them with our own future life decisions. If you’re feeling caught up in a never-ending spiral of wanting more or dreaming about some big life change, maybe it’s worth writing down your non-negotiable (realistic) items that WOULD make you feel satisfied. And then, if you achieve that big dream or make a huge life change, you won’t automatically be focused on what’s next or what you don’t have! That’s certainly what we’re trying to do. 134 - Are you playing the game of life on hard mode?
When you’re a person who lives with an “invisible illness” (anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue, Binocular Vision Dysfunction, etc) it can be very difficult for the rest of the world to see how much you are struggling. It’s like you’re playing the game of life on HARD MODE, while everyone else is playing on normal mode. A few years ago, while struggling with anxiety, we were very lucky to discover that Caroline has a slight misalignment of her eyes that causes a condition called Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD). Thankfully, we were able to find an optometrist who could prescribe a unique glasses prescription that helped give her much-needed comfort from daily dizziness, clumsiness (no joke), and many more symptoms you can find linked below caused by BVD. We wanted to peel back the curtain, talk about how Caroline is feeling this week, and share this small metaphor epiphany we stumbled into together. For Jason, playing the game of life is very normal and comfortable. For Caroline, every day can be a bit of a struggle, and it’s like she’s always playing on HARD MODE. Maybe you and your partner are similar? So, how do we navigate those different game modes together? How can we better support the person playing on HARD mode? All of that and more this week! Links we said we'd share with you... 👁  Learn more about Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD) and take an online test for it: https://www.vision-specialists.com/binocular-vision-dysfunction/what-is-bvd/ 🧑‍⚕️ Find an optometrist near you that treats BVD (US Only): https://www.vision-specialists.com/doctors/ ✈️  No pramvel update this week as we wanted to focus on this more important topic. 133 - Surviving the summer business slump
In this week’s episode, we’re talking about surviving the summer business slump. We’ve learned to embrace this season as sales, attention, and growth all comes to a screeching halt. We want to normalize this a bit more so it’s less shocking to you when it happens, and also something you’re preparing for every year. We’ll share how seasoned business owners can be ready for the summer slow-down and why resting and ENJOYING this time of year is just as helpful as doing a bunch of work. We’ll also discuss how new biz owners can weather this slower time AND get creative with offers to still nab some sales (or plant seeds for the future)! The most important takeaway this week: Don’t form an opinion of the entirety of your business based on the inevitable slow-down of the summer months. 🏠  Check out “The Bothy” Airbnb: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/51995327 ✈️  Our travel pramvel shares our additional time in Scotland, including our most favorite adventure day yet with Highland Cattle! ** More goodies from us:  Feel like you might be experiencing a business roadblock? 132 - Do you HAVE to niche down to succeed?
For all our multi-passionate business owners out there, this episode is FOR YOU. We hope our discussion this week helps you in one of two ways: 1. Either you’ve been wanting to stay more generalized and multi-passionate, but it hasn't been working for you and this can give you permission to go more narrow OR... 2. You’re still really committed to being a generalist (like we are with WAIM!) and this can help shift your expectations in terms of how to make that happen. We believe it IS still possible to be less niche with your biz, but the key has been and always will be: You need an audience, and specifically, you need an email list. There are five key elements we're sharing this week to help you succeed if you don't want to niche way down and you want to serve a bigger, broader topic. 131 - Business Nemesis (aka dealing with comparison)
This episode was inspired by a message we received from someone who said a version of the following, “What do you do when someone does something very similar to you and reaches a level of success or virality while you’re sort of toiling away?” It’s a GREAT question and something we’ve dealt with a few times over the years (and will continue to deal with, as it’s very natural and happens to everyone). We share a few of our own stories about comparison and what we’ve learned about working through it in various ways. We talk about running into comparison early on in your business journey and what to do when seeing someone else succeed can take such an emotional toll on your energy. Let’s all talk about comparison and the idea of Business Nemesi (Nemsises?) a bit more, because we all run into it. 🎥  Watch Nathaniel Drew’s video about Matt D’Avella: https://youtu.be/x6QYL704-Go ✈️  Our travel pramvel takes you to the start of our time in Scotland! ** More goodies from us:  Feel like you might be experiencing a business roadblock? 130 - Being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) in a relationship
The term Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) is becoming a lot more well-known and we think that’s GREAT! This trait is something that can be seen as a detriment, but we also know it provides a lot of benefits in our relationship and work. We go through some of our history in understanding Caroline is an HSP and how our relationship works out with a very NON-HSP in Jason. We discuss some of the feelings and factors that define an HSP as well as ways to support an HSP in everyday situations. Hopefully, this episode is one you can share with the HSP (or non-HSP) in your life to help learn from our experience! 129 - Reflecting on 40 years in life and 4 years in biz
Every “milestone” birthday has you reflecting on life and your previous years. Jason left his 30s behind and moved into the 40s, sharing five life/biz lessons with you. For WAIM, our little entrepreneurial endeavor passed the 4-year mark and it’s hard for us to believe! But, during these past 4 years, we’ve learned some well-worn lessons we wanted to share with you that we hope you can apply to your business. And, of course, there are lots of silly stories and walks down memory lane shared this week! ** More goodies from us:  Feel like you might be experiencing a business roadblock? 127 - When something has to give...
We don't want this update to come off as us complaining, more just sharing the REALNESS of what it takes to travel full-time while continuing to run two businesses (and trying to stay alive and healthy as human beings). At a certain point, something has to give to avoid burning out. Full-time travel is such an amazing privilege and we are so grateful for this opportunity, but at the same time, it's also one of the hardest things we've ever done in our lives. We'll be back before you know it and can't wait to share more biz advice and travel stories! Look for new travel vlogs over on YouTube in the meantime: https://youtube.com/wanderingaimfully

126 - How do we handle a full day of travel?
In this episode, we’re going to chat about what a full day of travel adventures looks like. One of us (Caroline) deals with flight anxiety, and the other of us (Jason) deals with an incredible urge to make every process as efficient as possible (even though that’s wildly IMPOSSIBLE in airports). We take you on our journey getting from Dublin, Ireland to Split, Croatia — the place where we are as of recording this ep! 125 - 5 essential business mindsets
This week, we want to talk to you about what it takes to work through the mental hurdles of running your own business. These are not the only mindsets that matter, but they’re the ones we’ve identified that have been most important for us over the years. Experimentation Aiming for enough Patience You don’t have to do it alone Prepare for stress We chat about each of those five mindsets in this episode and we hope they can help you start your next online biz or work through the mental gymnastics of your existing business! ** More goodies from us:  ⭐️ WAIM Unlimited is OPEN NOW (March 21 - April 5) - wanderingaimfully.com/join Feel like you might be experiencing a business roadblock? 124 - What self-imposed rules are you placing on your biz?
Just because you’ve done something in the past with your business doesn’t mean it has to be a hard and fast “rule” forever. We should embrace working less hours, doing fewer things, and striving for enough instead of more. This week, we shared a bunch of thoughts around having to be consistent or over-stuffing our products and services with too many things, and instead, to actually talk to our customers and find what’s valuable to THEM. If you’ve been feeling disillusioned with social media, you are not alone. We are on a 6-month break from using Instagram for our WAIM biz and it’s felt soooo freeing to us. We want you to feel that freedom as well by taking a good, hard look at WHY you use these platforms and WHAT tangible data you can get that tells you they are necessary (we do understand for some folks, social media isn’t evil and is very helpful). In the prâmvéllë of this episode, we go over our final week in Kinsale, Ireland. From the 17th century fort, to stunning cliffs, and three of our favorite restaurants, we bring you along and talk about some of our best moments (and how we dealt with some of the hardest too). The rest of this week’s pod is broken down into a few categories as we chat about the first two months of our year of travel: Working, Planning, Habits/Time, Relationship, and Travel Stuff. 122 - Embracing YOU: Selling (and Kinsale, Ireland stories!)
It’s so easy to get swept up in all the sales tactics. The manipulative wording, the guilt-tripping, the urgency, the scarcity, and so many of those things happen without even realizing it because we’re following the advice of someone else. Our goal this week is to show you some options that can feel more congruent with who you are at your core. When it comes to selling, we take a lot of pride in being as truthful as possible and only making promises we know we can keep. No false guarantees and no pie-in-the-sky dream selling around here (anymore). For us, selling has become so much easier when we’ve created more real and honest connections with our audience. When we’ve leaned into building long-term trust and stopped chasing the short-term dollars. We hope you can walk away from this episode feeling empowered and like you can sell in a way that feels GOOD to you. If you didn’t catch it last week, we’re officially in Ireland! We made the trek from Dublin to Kinsale and are absolutely loving this charming, nautical town. 121 - Embracing YOU: Decision Making (and our next travel destination revealed!)
This week, we’re talking all about decision-making. And when it comes time to make a decision, people often look to others for advice, and people LOVE to give their advice. But unfortunately, advice from external sources can often be broad, sweeping, blanket terms based on the things THEY value in life (which can be out of alignment for YOU). Our Embracing YOU series is all about putting the standard operating procedures of different aspects of life under the microscope and we’re excited to explore decision making, your internal compass, and how we work through the big, hairy decisions in our lives. As always, we don’t have all the answers, just some stories and experiences we want to share with you. 🍿 Movie discussed: No movies discussed this week. ** More goodies from us:  Feel like you might be experiencing a business roadblock? 120 - Embracing YOU: Productivity (and final Lisbon stories!)
Productivity is such a loaded word. For a long time it was just used synonymously with working. But we have a different definition. To be “productive” doesn’t just necessarily mean working. It means doing what you intend to do. If you intend to rest and you rest, you’re productive. If you intend to write a newsletter and you write it, or you plan it, or you name the Google Doc so you can sit down and write it next time...hey I think that’s productive too. A lot of productivity advice assumes that we all get things done in the same way, which couldn’t be further from the truth. We all have different brains, different preferences. Some of us prefer a very rigid schedule and that helps us stay on track. Some of us need extreme flexibility. We want to share our thoughts on productivity this week and hope after listening you’ll embrace more of what works FOR YOU! 119 - Embracing YOU: Social Media (and more Lisbon stories)
In this week’s episode, we tackle the monkey that can sit on all our backs from time to time: social media. We all know that social media can be valuable for our businesses but is it causing more harm than good? Could we be investing our time and energy somewhere else that doesn’t feel heavy or toxic? Also, if social media doesn’t bog you down, by all means, keep using it! That’s the entire idea of this Embracing YOU series. Only you know what’s right for your life and business and we’re just here to share some different and (hopefully) thoughtful perspectives. 118 - Embracing YOU: Branding + Copywriting (and Jason got covid)
It can feel risky to stand out with your business but we’d say it’s one of the most important decisions you can lean into when building your brand and doing any copywriting (emails, sales pages, newsletters, articles, etc). Your brand is how someone feels when they experience your product or service and the more you inject your authenticity and uniqueness into that brand the more you’ll align with your customers/clients! For years, we’ve wrestled with the ideas of “being professional” and… what the heck does that even mean?? Who decides what a “professional” standard is in the online business world we exist in these days? Does that antiquated way of thinking actually matter anymore?  (Spoiler alert: no, it does not.) We hope you walk away with some ideas and ways to embrace more of what makes YOU, you, in your brand and copywriting after listening to this episode. Oh, and not to bury the lead, but in the *pramvel* section, we share our covid story from the last week. And the small wedding we catered via UberEats! 🍿 Movie discussed: Not a movie, but we loved The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window on Netflix! ** More goodies from us:  Feel like you might be experiencing a business roadblock? Did we mention we made it to Europe and OMG we live out of our suitcases now and are traveling full-time?? Wowowowowow. Tune in to hear where we are in Europe and the truth about how hard it is for a highly sensitive person with anxiety to be awake for 24+ hours and on planes for more than half of that.
