I will be looking forward to interviewing Dr. Beth Ballinger. The emphasis of the show will be on behavioral vision. Dr. Ballinger has a tremendous behavioral optometric practice in Newport Beach, California. In addition to working with patients who have blurred vision or eye disease, Dr. Ballinger works with kids and adults with learning challenges. She also works with infants who have developmental problems. In addition, she works with and helps treat patients who have autism, Down's Syndrome and a host of other neurological problems. We will be discussing her examination and treatment of these patients. I've known Dr. Ballinger for over 30 years. Her compassion and love for optometry and the patients she works with is second to none. Her warmth and love for the profession, I'm sure, will come through during the interview.

We will be having two guests appearing on the show. Dr. David Sendrowski is an optometrist and a professor at the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall P. Ketchum University in Fullerton, CA. Dr. Franklin Lusby is a board certified ophthalmologist out of Loma Linda University in California. Dr. Sendrowski will be discussing the effects of viruses on the eye. Included in this is a timely discussion of measles and its effect on the eye. Shingles and Herpes will also be covered. Dr. Lusby will be discussing refractive surgery. He will go over which patients are good candidates for surgery and which ones are not. He will describe the various technologies available and how they differ from those offered almost 20 years ago.

Dr. Agarwal is an ophthalmologist who has a tremendous background in eye care. She will be describing surgeries and treatments of patients she has seen over the years. The surgeries include those for individuals whose eyes aren't straight and for lids that droop. She also works with accident victims who have suffered from fractures around the eye socket. Also she works with patients who have tumors around the eyes that need removal. Dr. Agarwal also works with patients who have neurological conditions that affect one's vision. brbr Dr. Agarwal has lectured extensively. She is extremely knowledgeable as well as entertaining. I am looking forward to interviewing her.

Dr. Rishko will be discussing various aspects of vision as it relates to sports. Concepts of binocularity, depth perception, and other visual skills will be discussed. The use of contact lenses and eyewear protection will be gone over. What role does stress have on the performance of an athlete? Most importantly, what can the athlete do visually to improve their performance in a given sport? Could vision training help the athlete? What is visualization and how can it impact an athlete's performance?

I will be interviewing Dr. Davey on glaucoma and retinal disease. Dr. Davey will be describing in depth about his research in glaucoma and macular degeneration as well as the treatment for them. I know from the patients whom I have referred to Dr. Davey for glaucoma that the audience as well as myself will learn a lot from listening to Dr. Davey. Dr. Davey will also be discussing ongoing studies in vision care that are occurring at Western University, College of Optometry and what the future possibly holds regarding accurate diagnosis and management of eye disease.

Athletes, both school-age and collegiate, are subject to similar sequelae from impact sports as do patients with traumatic brain injury. Optometrists play a key role in evaluating and managing vision changes and complaints seen early on, in addition to symptoms that sometimes persist. Dr. Wren will discuss her perspectives on treatment and keeping players safe.

Dr. Ida Chung will be discussing vision's role in a child's success in school. Often times vision problems can significantly affect a one's ability to learn. She'll be describing in detail what constitutes a comprehensive visual exam and how good vision is more than just having 20/20. Dr. Chung will also be describing vision development within the child. brbr A big part of the show will discuss the importance of vision therapy. She'll discuss what vision therapy is and what conditions are helped by it. Dr. Chung will also discuss patients whom she's worked with in vision therapy and the improvements the patient has achieved.

Dr. Anthony Culotta of the Retina Institute of California will be our guest December 11. Dr. Culotta is an ophthalmologist specializing in retinal disease and surgery. He will be discussing advancements in treating patients with diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and retinal detachment. He will be discussing both surgical and medical treatments of these devastating eye conditions. I'm sure listeners to the show who have these conditions or who have family members who suffer from the above will benefit from tuning in to the show.

Dr. Taylor Bladh, an optometrist from Diamond Bar, California, will be our guest. He will be describing vision's role in sports performance and how by training visual skills, one's performance in their particular sport can improve. Dr. Bladh will also be describing his work with individuals with ADHD and autism. brbr This episode promises to be most interesting and informative. Dr, Andy Pumerantz of Western University Health Sciences, Pomona, CA will be our guest on today's show. Much of our show will center around diabetes. Dr. Pumerantz will be describing a uniquely integrative approach across many disciplines of health care in treating patients with diabetes. Our introductory broadcast will briefly describe the importance of vision as relates to education, sports and performance in the workplace. It is a lot more than just having 20/20. I’ll be discussing a few interesting cases that I’ve treated with the use of spectacles and contact lenses This includes the treatment of a patient who walked into walls after brain surgery and how we treated her with prisms. Finally I’ll be describing some of the content of the future shows and the guests that we have appearing, many of who are experts in their area of eye or vision care. These areas include lasik, vision training, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, sports vision, treatment of vison problems after concussion and some of the technology used.
