Deadcenter 2016 Pt 1 District Up! - Heartland
A few weeks ago filmmakers from all over the state (and world!) gathered in downtown OKC to celebrate the 2016 DeadCENTER film festival. Every year the film festival features shorts, docs, and feature films from all over including many from Oklahoma filmmakers. I attended the festival, and while I was looking forward to taking in as many films as possible I was very eager to meet and have a conversation with filmmakers who've worked specifically in our great state. Over the course of the festival I sat down with several filmmakers to discuss filming in Oklahoma, the challenges they face with access to crew and equipment as well as the importance of making films that reflect the unique viewpoint and landscape of our great state. We'll be rolling out several mini-episodes over the course of the next few weeks from these interviews. First up (@4:00), in this episode we sat down with Dennis Spielman, the director of the documentary film District Up! (http://www.uncoveringoklahoma.com/DistrictUp/) about his film that focuses on the revitalization of OKC's many entertainment districts. Next (@14:33) we discuss the indie drama Heartland (https://www.facebook.com/heartlandthefilm/) with director Maura Anderson and co-writer/actress Velinda Godfrey. This episode we're also featuring Designer Genes, a new track by Tulsa band The Bourgeois. You can listen to other tracks as well as find out more by visiting their website, http://www.thebourgeoisband.com/. The band has a show in OKC at the Blue Note on July 29th.
