How can a lack of trust for our direct reports translate to poor performance? Easy, as Ben Horowitz says in his book The Hard Thing About Hard Things, “The act of judging people in advance will retard their development.” Always. When you ignore your feelings or try to suppress them, you cause lots of difficulties with your communication. The more in touch you are with what you are feeling before an interview, audition or an important meeting, the more likely you are to communicate your value clearly and genuinely.
