Who Gave You Permission To Be A Jerk? It’s Not Ok, Ok?
The world has changed, a lot for the better, and a lot for the worse. Our society goes through ups and downs, but change is the constant in how we think, feel and act to each other. Right now, in 2020, we’re at a low point in how we treat each other. Why? Because we’re the unhappiest generation of humans that have ever existed. We’ve changed, and not for the better. My time in politics made this crystal clear to me. Also my time coaching youth sports. The amount of disgusting, vitriolic hate coming from people these days is mind numbing, and I fear it’s going to get worse, before it gets better, if it ever does.

Being Average Is Ok
I'm really bad at a lot of things. I'm overweight. I don't wake up at 5am. I am not working a four hour workweek. I hold grudges. I don't focus. I am bad with money. I could be a better husband and father. I'm lazy. I don't make wise food choices. I don't foster my friendships enough. I could tell my wife I love her more often. I really should exersize more. I should be meditating. I need to do more for charity. Yeah, like you, I'm a human fucking being who is imperfect. So while I'm really bad at most everything, I'm also really good at a few things. My family, an entrepreneur, inspiring others. Isn't that enough? Can't we just be average? You can be average, and still be unskippable. You just have to pick and choose. Because nobody, and I mean nobody, is perfect and setting your sights on "being the greatest" is an unrealistic pipe dream that nobody is ever going to achieve, no matter how many books you read. They told me not to write this book. They said, "nobody will buy a book about being average" and that "everyone wants to be someone they're not so you have to sell them that". They said, "people want to change, you have to give them a formula for it". I'm calling bullshit. Nobody really wants to change. Sure, they talk a big game, and they want the end result of change (success, happiness, etc..), but what they really don't want to put the work in to change. Well, not everybody, but you get what I mean. You know who doesn't want to be rich and famous? You know who doesn't want to change? Me. And probably you. I just went over to Amazon and did a search for "being average". Here are some of the books I found. Only 3 pages of books and these are the ones that are relevant to this discussion. Excellence: Why Being Average is Never An Option Stop Being Average: The Psychology Of Achieving Excellence And Greatness Stop Being Average: A Motivational Guide To Get You From 9-5 (Like Most People), To Living Your Life! Here's What Let's Do: Stop Being Average and Start Being Awesome No More Average: Overcome an Average Life and Live as The Real You Driven by the fear of being average.the mindset to depart mediocrity The Essence of Being a Genius: The Fifty Genius Traits Enabling the Aspiring Individual to Rise Above Average Notice how every book craps all over being average? Now I just did a search for "being successful". This turned up 376 results. Most of which are in the self-help category. Some big time sellers in here. In fact, using a program called KDP Rocket I can see that the book "Girl, Wash Your Face" is currently making about $119k a month in sales. I can also see that the book "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck" is making just over $62k a month. The list of best selling self help books that sell tons of copies goes on and on. In fact, the average monthly earnings for books in this category is $38,326. And every one of those books is really all about some kind of system, combined with a backstory from the author, about how the person reading it could be just like them and be "more than average". Why are we so down on being average? The reality is that 99.9% of us are exactly that. Yet, we cannot come to terms with the fact that we're never going to be the outlier. I get it. It's like buying a lottery ticket. You know you're not going to win, but "what if?" Average is good. Average is realistic. Average, in most cases, equals happiness.

Stop Trying to "Change"
Man, oh man. When did everything get so messed up? Why is every book or podcast or guru telling me that if I want to be happy, I MUST wake up at 5am, or I MUST have a side hustle, or I MUST make my bed? As if no person in human history ever had success unless they did one, or all, of those things. We know that's not true. Here's the problem with "four hour workweeks" and "five second rules" and "miracle mornings". While they are wonderful concepts, and for the people that do choose to implement them many have transformations... The problem is that most people just flat out aren't going to do what's required. They're just not. It's like your doctor telling you to stop smoking and lose weight. You know she's right. But there you are, you leave her office, get in your car, and light up a smoke as you're sitting in the McDonald's parking lot. Look, all the motivation and systems and formulas in the world aren't going to help you change your life and your career or business unless you actually want to change. So yeah, that's where you have to start. Do you want to change, or don't you? Then, and only then, are you going to be open to a system for change. But let's get to the core of it all. The word "change". I once got booked to speak to a room full of life coaches. Great crowd, nice audience. The first thing I said when I got on stage was, "Stop calling yourself coaches. Nobody wants to be coached." To which half of the room applauded and the other half wanted to stab me in the heart. Stop trying to "change". Do you know how difficult it is to "change" a behavior or a mindset? Studies have shown that change is more difficult than giving up heroin, or even cigarettes. How about we try something different. Stop trying to change; Start learning how to become Unskippable. Unskippable is in every one of us. We don't have to change to be Unskippable. We just have to start thinking differently about what we want out of our lives and business/career, and then go do it. This book offers no system or formula. You don't need to wake up at 5am. You don't need to journal your feelings, or learn how to meditate. You just need to modify your thoughts and realize what you really want your life to be like, then make small, simple (I almost said changes) "adjustments". Isn't that just another way of saying change, Jim? Well, I guess you could say that. When I told the life coaches to stop calling themselves coaches, that did not mean they still weren't coaching people. They weren't abandoning their business model and what they teach. They were just modifying how it was presented. So yeah, you're of course going to "change" the way you think and work. But by not calling it that, you're going to have a much better chance of actually accomplishing your goals.
