When you ask yourself the question of whether you’re qualified to start your own business, usually it’s not with regards to your educational background that you’re asking… because we’ve seen throughout the years that it’s perfectly feasible to get a business off the ground without a degree or certification under your belt.  Having some education or industry experience in the same area as your business idea will of course shorten the learning curve, but people are stepping out of the scope of their education all the time!  Instead, when you get a nagging voice in the back of your head asking “um… what if I just don’t have what it takes to start a business??” then friends, that’s when we recognize that in fact, you’re being paid a visit by the Official Mascot of the Crusher of all Dreams:  the Imposter Syndrome!

I’m sure there isn’t a single person who isn’t wishing for a life where they wake up when they want, eat when they want, fill their calendar with things they want, work on the projects they like, and so on.  Many people assume that the life of an entrepreneur is like this…and while I agree that once the business has been scaled to a comfortable point that certain levels of freedom open up, most new entrepreneurs would say that the first couple of years – at a minimum – are full of serious grind and hustle!  But the difference is that hustling for an EMPLOYER can look very different from hustling for yourself and the causes that you’re passionate about. So if you’re listening to this podcast today and ruminating to yourself about how you feel going back to work when the quarantine ends, stick around for some thoughts on how to flex your mind and open up some possibilities.
