TDR 028 - The Problem With Daylight Savings Time
This past weekend, many of us experienced the celestial phenomenon known as "daylight savings time" (DST). This is the one day of the year that is only 23 hours long! It is a magical event that continues to confound astronomers and mathematicians to this day. All kidding aside, while DST may be a historical throwback to a time when we were much more agrarian as a culture, its health effects are very real. Research suggests that you never fully adjust your circadian rhythm to the hour shift associated with DST. Also, losing an hour of sleep may increase your risk for a heart attack over the following three days. In this episode we talk about how to adjust to the time change and what you can do to prevent the nasty side-effects of DST Daylight Savings Time Explained: http://youtu.be/84aWtseb2-4 DST Health risks: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4189320/

TDR 026 - Philip McKernan on Becoming Authentic
Philip speaks around the world about the importance of overcoming personal obstacles, gaining clarity, and cultivating the confidence to believe in yourself. He has shared stages with some well known speakers…Steven Covey, Richard Branson, the Dalai Lama to name a few, and the feedback is generally overwhelmingly positive. Through live personal leadership experiences, he has worked with all sorts of people from housewives to Olympic athletes, TV personalities and entrepreneurs, people who’ve gone bankrupt to billionaires and everything in between, and he’s uncovered that people’s dysfunctional relationship to money and their inability to get in touch with their own deep intuition inhibits their ability to gain the authentic clarity they need to live an authentic, and meaningful life. “If you don’t find comfort in your own skin you will never find comfort in the world. Don’t expect the world to accept you for who you are, when you don’t.” http://philipmckernan.com/ http://www.twitter.com/philipmckernan

TDR 020 - Flu Shots, Daily Aspirin and Backpedalling
In this episode we discuss medical backpedalling and the fallacy of the seasonal flu shot. This week the CDC issued a report that stated this year's flu vaccine was not effective and was administered in error. This is unfortunate news for anyone who received the shot. After issuing its apology to the public, health officials recommended anti-viral drugs for those showing signs and symptoms of the flu. Also in the news: Daily aspirin therapy is no longer recommended to prevent heart disease and may do more harm than good. This weeks news stories show how quickly yesterday's drug science can become today's nonsense. TDR 017 - Floating and the Health Benefits of Sensory Deprivation with Mike Zaremba of Floathouse.ca
Want to reduce stress, relieve pain, boost your immune system and improve your overall quality of life while floating in the world's best bathtub? Floating is a practice where you enter into a Float House tank (also called an isolation tank or sensory deprivation tank) which is a well-engineered enclosed tub filled with 10″ of water that has 800 lbs. of dissolved Epsom salts in it. The individual lies down in the water and floats effortlessly in the nude. The water is heated to the same temperature as the surface of your skin so that when the water settles and you remain relaxed and still, you do not really feel the water any more. The tank is light-proof and sound-proof and has a neutral smell. All forces of gravity on the musculoskeletal system and nervous system are eliminated from the extreme positive buoyancy; so imagine a space where you don’t feel anything, nor do you see or hear anything. The tank’s extremely unique environment is designed to allow for a minimal amount of sensory input to enter into your nervous system. This environment then has a plethora of benefits and applications for health, personal development, spirituality, and well-being. Mike and his brother Andy began floating in 2010 and were inspired to revive this technology in Vancouver. They soon opened Float House in Gastown and have rapidly expanded to two more locations in Kitsilano and Victoria. Mike and Andy also host the progressive podcast "Vancouver Real" on which they feature local artists, specialists, philosophers and other interesting guests. To book a float, visit www.floathouse.ca Listen to Vancouver Real at www.vancouverreal.tv More about floating: http://youtu.be/KeqmKwsvM58?list=RDYEjTXX2rHgA
