What is Demand Manufacturing? | The Way I See It
Demand manufacturing doesn't have to mean "made-to-order," or "small batch." Rather, keeping inventory digital until a customer order comes through actually allows fashion businesses to offer MORE options (colors, sizes, etc.) for their products, without maintaining physical inventory.Ram Sareen explains how attention to fit inspired the concept of demand manufacturing in the apparel industry back in 2012.EPISODE LINKS:Ram Sareen's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tukatech/Ram Sareen's Twitter: https://twitter.com/RamKSareen1CONNECT:- YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/TUKATALKS- Twitter: https://twitter.com/tukatalks- LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/showcase/372...- Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tukatalks/- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tukatalks/#fashionpodcast #fashiontechnology #whatNOTtodo

Material Requirement Planning (MRP) | The Way I See It
For many fashion businesses, MRP simply means calculating approximately how much fabric is required, adding a margin on top of that, then booking the fabric order. Marker making is seen as a parallel, but separate process, and little thought is given to the handling of the fabric in the cutting room.Instead, apparel companies should have a dedicated person whose sole responsibility is managing materials from planning to cutting. With proper implementation, your Materials Manager could save your business 5% or more in fabric utilization.Tukatalks is the show where fashion industry experts share what NOT to do.EPISODE LINKS:Ram Sareen's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tukatech/Ram Sareen's Twitter: https://twitter.com/RamKSareen1CONNECT:- YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/TUKATALKS- Twitter: https://twitter.com/tukatalks- LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/showcase/372...- Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tukatalks/- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tukatalks/#fashionpodcast #fashiontechnology #whatNOTtodo

Renovating vs. Innovating in the Fashion Industry | The Way I See It
For all the new technologies and buzzwords in the fashion industry, there are still too many samples and garments being made and later thrown away. Maybe an apparel business has implemented technology, but does that mean that they are really being innovative?Ram Sareen breaks down the difference between "renovating" an apparel business model and actually "innovating" with a new paradigm. He warns not to get too excited about fashion technology that fails to address the root of a problem, whether it's in product development, production, or retail.Tukatalks is the show where fashion industry experts share what NOT to do.EPISODE LINKS:Ram Sareen's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tukatech/Ram Sareen's Twitter: https://twitter.com/RamKSareen1CONNECT:- YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/TUKATALKS - Twitter: https://twitter.com/tukatalks- LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/showcase/372...- Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tukatalks/- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tukatalks/ #fashionpodcast #fashiontechnology #whatNOTtodo

Rethink Fabric Spreading | One on One with Ram Sareen
You can reduce your garment manufacturing cost by 10% with this simple paradigm shift: the most high-skilled job in the cutting room is NOT fabric cutting. It is fabric SPREADING.If engineered properly, one person can spread and inspect fabric at the same time. With proper fabric planning and roll management, you can eliminate ticketing and still control shading, while maximizing every inch of fabric that can be used.In this episode, Ram Sareen shares real world footage of the best fabric spreading practices in action and explains how good engineering can turn your cutting room from your biggest headache into your most valuable asset.Tukatalks is the show where fashion industry experts share real-world knowledge gained through hands-on experience.EPISODE LINKS:How Quality Control Practices are Ruining Garment Quality: https://youtu.be/EpRwdkEipt4Spreading 6000 Yards/Person/Day: https://youtu.be/hqWusDDyOGMSpreading 5000 Yards/Person/Day: https://youtu.be/Tu285u6rbuQRam Sareen's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tukatech/Ram Sareen's Twitter: https://twitter.com/RamKSareen1CONNECT:- Podcast website: https://tukatech.com/tukatalks/- YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/TUKATALKS- Twitter: https://twitter.com/tukatalks- LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/showcase/37259546/- Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tukatalks/- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tukatalks/

Cut the Noise - Devise a Comprehensive Integrated Strategy Based on Accurate Information
This episode is the replay of a conversation between Ram Sareen and David Birnbaum hosted by Just-Style in the Cut the Noise webinar on September 23, 2020.The key to developing a fashion business strategy is problem solving. Problem solving is not that difficult. It is not rocket science. Then again, to the rocket scientist, rocket science is not that difficult at least when compared to filling out a tax return. It is just what we do. Problem solving is a three-part process: Agree there is a problem Recognize that solving the problem is sufficiently important to pay the price Devise a comprehensive integrated strategy based on accurate information The obstacle is all about point 3. Using accurate information. In truth, we are all drowning in a sea of noise. Some start with a solution, then shoehorn the data to fit that solution. Others employ one dataset to prove their point when a second or even a third dataset would provide better, more accurate information. This seminar serves two purposes. To show how to separate out the noise and devise a strategy based on accurate information To provide solutions for serious problems facing Asia’s garment export industries This is not some academic, theoretical exercise but practical, doable strategies that can materially affect millions of lives. One final question: Why present this on a public platform? Would it not be better to speak directly to relevant governments and/or the national industry organizations? Industries, countries, and perhaps the entire world are run by a dominant minority. It is only during a time of crisis, such as now, that the dominant minority can be replaced by a new creative minority. However, the dominant minority will not go down without a fight. Effecting real change requires ownership of the tools of change. Going to governments allows them to distort the process to protect themselves and their power. Going public denies the ability to distort.Tukatalks is the show where fashion industry experts share real-world knowledge gained through hands-on experience.EPISODE LINKS:BUY The Cost-to-Value Analysis: https://www.amazon.com/Guide-Cost-Value-Analysis/dp/0985105879Birnbaum and Father's Website: https://birnbaumandfather.com/Ram Sareen's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tukatech/Ram Sareen's Twitter: https://twitter.com/RamKSareen1CONNECT:- Podcast website: https://tukatech.com/tukatalks/- YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/TUKATALKS- Twitter: https://twitter.com/tukatalks- LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/showcase/37259546/- Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tukatalks/- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tukatalks/

Why Morphing 3D Models Doesn't Work | One on One with Ram Sareen
As 3D software has become more popular in fashion companies, many are frustrated that adding 3D design doesn't seem to be reducing the amount of work required for product development -- or the number of physical samples required for approval. Ram Sareen has honed in on the foundational issue that prevents fashion businesses from succeeding in 3D fashion design and fit: the integrity of the 3D model.
