3 – Hold On To Hope with Urijah Ermel
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Episode 3 – Hold On To Hope with Urijah Ermel Hey everyone! I had the absolute privilege to speak with our third guest recently, Urijah Ermel.  Urijah is 16 years old with an incredible outlook on life.  He has dreams to be an audio engineer and help create amazing audio experiences from behind the scenes. [/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”5214″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text] Urijah also has many different rare conditions including severe CVID, a very difficult immune condition. He has struggled since birth with various medical conditions and spends much of his time in hospitals. Despite his challenge, his positive attitude and outlook encourage others around him. [/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”5209″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text] I had a great conversation with Urijah talking about his journey and the things in his life that help him overcome. We talked about how he deals with the tough circumstances in his journey, and the need to hold on to hope through the struggles. He explained, however, good music or company can provide a good distraction from everything.  And sometimes that is needed too as its difficult to be hopeful all the time. We need to find ways to manage the challenges in our life in our  own way. [/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”5210″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text] “People have to start realizing that everybody deserves an equal chance”  [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] Podcast Music Credit: https://www.bensound.com [/vc_column_text]In this episode, we talk about: Urijah’s dreams to become an audio engineer Some of the specific challenges Urijah faces How the community should treat people with medical challenges The value of patient partnership and how being included in the medical and education system can have a profound effect on the journey. 1 – This Is Ella
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Welcome everyone to our very first episode.  We thought about doing an introduction episode but we decided we would dive right in and just start telling the wonderful stories of people in our community and the perspective they bring from their own journeys.  So here it goes..[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] Episode 1 – This Is Ella Hey everyone! We are so excited to introduce you to our first guest, Krista Ewert.  Krista is mother to three children, Jakob, Ella, and Audrey and wife to Ben. [/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2365″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text] Krista’s daughter Ella, was blessed with an extra chromosome and was diagnosed with Down syndrome shortly after birth.  Since then, Krista has become a passionate advocate for people living with Down syndrome and strives for inclusiveness. Her belief is that every person in the community has something to offer this world, and are valued members in society.  In Krista’s journey to help people see Ella’s differences, she created a resource to help Ella’s peers learn about Down syndrome and how they could better understand Ella. Krista noticed over the years that many fellow parents of children with Down syndrome were asking how they could educate their community members about their child’s diagnosis. It was then that ‘This is Ella’ became a published children’s book; intended as an open resource to any educator, parent, or child wanting to learn more about Down syndrome and in general embrace individuals that may be considered different. [/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2336″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text] This Is Ella is a beautiful book that helps spread the message of inclusion and provides a valuable message to all who read the book.  Even with the differences that come with a diagnosis, every child is the same in many ways. We are excited to share this episode with you and introduce you to Krista! [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] “Ella wants to be included, just like every other child.  No child wants to be excluded from the group.  No child wants to be made fun of, or left out because they don’t have the skills that other kids have.  Every child wants to be included, wants to belong, and wants to be loved.”  [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] Podcast Music Credit: https://www.bensound.com [/vc_column_text]In this episode, we talk about: Ella’s diagnosis of Down Syndrome and how it impacted their family Celebrating the differences but recognizing all kids require the same love and support The strength and importance of your own support community when facing the difficult times Thoughts on fears, and the future. The value of inclusion and what it means to Krista. The journey in creating a children’s book to help advocate for her daughter and other children living with a diagnosis Where to purchase a copy of This Is Ella.
