The Endurance Specific Podcast #15 – Fascia, injuries and Beliefs with Claudia Sorensen
I recently got to speak with Claudia Sorensen all about fascia, our beliefs, and how injuries show up. We had a really fascinating conversation and if you've had recurring injuries this may shine some light on why (even if you've been doing all the rehab, the stretching, the rolling etc). Claudia is a Structural integration Rolf Practitioner, an associated member of the Ortho-Bionomy, and a certified yoga instructor. You can find Claudia at The Little White House in Vernon BC Claudia Recommends: The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer Even With Your Shoes On by Hellen Hall

The Endurance Specific Podcast #14 – Complexity is Not the Answer
We need to stop buying into complexity is the way. We see way too many people undervaluing simplicity. Simple doesn’t make it easy. But keeping things simple is the pathway to getting really good at endurance sports. Today Charlotte and I give you the main simple and required things you must do if you care about improving. If you care about seeing what you can do. The hard thing with simple. It gets rid of a lot of the excuses why you think you can’t get good. The answer is simple, it just ain’t comfortable.

The Endurance Specific Podcast #13 – How to Show Up Matters
Charlotte and I continue on with the No BS way to get good...  I give you a little proud parent moment that shows a level of commitment that we can learn from. We also talk about decoupling your big hairy audacious goals from the calendar and why it's not always good to have a set time of when something should be achieved. It's about showing up and playing the long game.  If you are committed to getting good and living your best life, we hope you are. We continue is the no BS way here.

The Endurance Specific Podcast #12 – Test Driving the Body & Struggle Well
Today on the podcast, Charlotte and I continue the No BS way to get good... No this is not part 2... more like part 1.1. Today is a short episode (for once) and we cover two important points that are necessary to get good. We spoke about tiredness last week on part one. I mentioned test drive the body and today we go through what that means. We also talk about the beauty of the struggle. If you are committed to getting good. We continue is the no BS way here.

The Endurance Specific Podcast #11 – No BS way to get good part 1
Today on the podcast, Charlotte and I kick off part one of the No BS way to get good, no matter the endurance training you do. We cover things like what you are avoiding, the 5 simple things to change your outcomes and we go into each of those to help you better understand the mechanics and why each is important. We also look into something I believe I and many others are wrong with promoting this specific thought path and to wrap up part once we look at tiredness. It's a fact of life as an endurance athlete but we show you how you are likely killing your chances of success through the justifications we give ourselves in a subjective manner.  If you are committed to getting good. Here is the no BS way to put you on the path.  music by @insilicosound SHOW LINKS: The myth of 1% better every day

The Endurance Specific Podcast #10 – Marcus Leach
Before the Christmas break, I got the chance to speak with Marcus Leach. You might be wondering who Marcus is. Marcus is amongst other things, an ultra cyclist, a freelance writer, a husband, a dad (of two young kids), and a lover of the mountains and challenging his limits. Marcus has ridden the 3 grand tours IN THE SAME YEAR the day before the pros come through. He’s raced a ton of ultra-endurance races and has put 4 Everests to his name. Learn how Marcus stacked on a ton of weight, decided enough was enough, and changed the course of his life. The majority of this podcast is talking about developing your mental muscle.

The Endurance Specific Podcast #9 – Don Schwartz
This week I chat with Don Schwartz. It’s a must-listen if you are looking to develop that mental edge. You most likely won’t of heard of Don Schwartz. I met Don last year as I coached his youngest daughter in a ski program here in Whistler. Don is a mountain guide, was one of the original professional snowboarders, a survivor of a horrific helicopter crash that left 3 of his friends dead and himself with 3rd-degree burns. Don also is a winner of the Death Race. If you don’t know what the death race is… you’ll learn a little bit about it in this episode but look it up. The race is not fair and it will test you to your limits of physical and mental endurance. So tune in to hear how this incredible human overcame tremendous adversities and never let anything stop him from living his best life.

The Endurance Specific Podcast #8 – Simple Effective Nutrition
This week Charlotte and I sit down and talk about Nutrition and coming back to simplicity. No extremes, just focusing on the three macronutrients we need for health, fitness, and performance. If you're committed to getting the most out of your life by keeping healthy so you can be as fit and resilient as possible. Then you need to switch from focusing on a diet... because we all know diet is a short term approach. What we need is a healthy eating plan for life. Something you can implement anytime, anywhere.  See more: EnduranceSpecific.com

The Endurance Specific Podcast #7 – Aerobic Deficiency Syndrome
This week Charlotte and I sit down and talk about Aerobic Deficiency Syndrome (ADS), what it is, how it comes about, and what you can and should do about it. We follow along from the pacing podcast and also discuss a couple of zones that as endurance athletes you need to be focusing on the most and how to do some DIY tests that if you want to use a heart rate monitor you can train where you need to be while cross-referencing how you feel (in the moment) to become an intuitive athlete.  As we know, the two main physiological systems for athletic performance are aerobic and anaerobic metabolism. We also know we can train both but we optimize one at the expense of the other. If you want to get your speed as high as possible in your endurance endeavors then we must optimize the aerobic system. It may come as counter-intuitive to you, but this is the system we rely on to move both efficiently and fast. No amount of high-intensity work will ever give you the best results. The Endurance Specific Podcast #6 – Pacing
This week Charlotte and I sit down and talk about pacing. Why with all the gadgets, the zones, the testing do athletes still struggle with pacing? Why do races continue to go south when we have everything available to us? Have we lost the ability to listen to our bodies from simply tuning out? And how we can use our inner technology that is so much more sophisticated, speedy, and accurate but is frequently dulled by the noise. As show notes over at www.endurancespecific.com

The Endurance Specific Podcast #5 – Kevin Hodder
Today I sat down for a coffee and a chat with the race director of Eco-Challenge - The Worlds Toughest Race, Kevin Hodder.  Everything about this screams the ability to endure. Not just what the teams have to do, to finish this mammoth of a course but everything that goes into designing, testing, and gaining permission to do the course. It's huge.  We cover a lot in this podcast and much take-home advice that will help any endurance athlete and not those just interested in Adventure racing.  You can follow Kevin on Instagram @Kev_Hodder You can and should watch the race here on Amazon Prime Intro music by @insilicosound

4. Till Schenk - 7 Everestings, 7 Days, 7 Countries
Today I have Till Schenk joining me and we talk about his recent Stupid 7 (that’s 7 everestings in 7 days in 7 countries… well that was the plans but like many things in 2020, Covid has made us both have to pivot but also persevere). But we speak about much more than that… one thing is for certain there is a lot of overcoming challenges.  If you’re a triathlete and have raced in Europe, you may have been announced by Till, his a Sports Announcer & Event MC,  Storyteller, and Outdoor Lover.  He lives in the beautiful cycling mecca of Girona.  And… so it turns out that Till and I are seemingly cut from the same cloth. You’ll see how easily he ropes me into a gooder of a winter challenge. We virtually shook hands on it, so it’s a done deal. I loved this conversation with Till. His enthusiasm can definitely be felt. I trust you’ll enjoy it as much as I did. Make sure you follow Till over on Instagram @TillSchenkLive

Endurance Specific Podcast - #2 The Answers Have Changed
Today's podcast is about how the answers have changed but they have also stayed the same. 2020 has been a challenging year, to say the least. Races around the world have been canceled and life as we have known it has changed.  And it’s a continual challenge on many fronts. No matter your personal beliefs and biases. So today we unpack what “The Answers have Changed” means and how that impacts your training. Especially my addition that seemingly makes no sense “but they have also stayed the same”. Enjoy

FB #279 - CBD For Athletes with Joanna Zeiger
Today I have Joanna Zeiger on the podcast talking all about CBD. Joanna was a pro athlete from 1998 to 2010. She was 4th in the first ever triathlon in the Olympics in Sydney and then 5 weeks later was 5th at the Ironman World Champs. In 2008 Joanna one the 70.3 World champs… Joanna had a career-ending injury when a bottle handoff at the 2009 70.3 World Champs went horribly wrong. Joanna has been living with chronic pain ever since. This led to Joanna eventually trying CBD (with a lot of coercing from her husband, as school had focused on all the potentially damaging effects of cannabis, and being a professional athlete, drugs were are no go zone… Something we go into in the podcast). I’m super interested in the benefits of CBD… As we discuss it’s not for everyone and that’s ok. But there is a lot of information and miss information out there. So there are things you need to understand and this interview is a great starting place. FB #278 - The Happy Runner with David Roche
Your best will never be enough unless it’s always enough – David Roche Today I have my run coach David Roche back on the podcast talking about their book (which is available now) which in my mind is required reading for all of us endurance athletes. The book might be using running and being a happy runner… you can just change running for Triathlete or cyclist or whatever. Charlotte and I got lucky and got an advanced copy… and Charlotte even got a quote on the back cover of the book! I’m so thankful we go an advance copy as it greatly helped me leading into my 110k race here in Whistler and then for my recent 100 miler. It wasn’t about Part two of the book on running principles but part one… running happy principles. A major one about self-acceptance and ultimately the results matter but they don’t matter. As always enjoy. IN TODAY’S EPISODE, WE DISCUSS: Momento Mori, why talking about death matters! What’s really important to get results What self-acceptance means and how it helps The reason to decide now! Why hitting your life performance goals can leave you depressed and not fulfilled Cutting others and yourself some slack Depression The dangers of room temperature Why the parts that suck are super important parts of the journey How happiness is found in the atmosphere of growth Being enough doesn’t depend on a race result The striving for the result matters more than the result. the striving is the fun part. FB #277 - Menstruation Matters with Tiana Rockwell
So this is an episode I recorded after my 100 miler whilst down in California. We were staying with good friends Sean & Tiana Rockwell in Grass Valley and we always talk about loads of topics on nutrition and hormones etc. I got a handy new zoom pro4n recorder so we sat down in her office talking about a topic that is rarely discussed. Tiana has been on the podcast before - episode 201, you can check that out - Tiana is an endurance athlete, dark chocolate lover, and a certified nutritional therapy practitioner who believes that real food can balance the body and produce personal record sports performance.  Now this one is for the ladies. I’ve been off for a bit, focusing on my 100 miler and recharging the batteries. So today I’m talking with Charlotte about complexity, simplicity and reducing the noise that is hurting your results. I also wrap this up with lessons from my 100 miler. As always enjoy.
