Horsefly snouts, precision manufacturing, and 3d printing Scroll to the bottom of the page to download or play the Podcast.   It is also available on iTunes, Android, or Stitcher.  And if you like the show please subscribe on any of those channels and leave a review.  Thanks! In this episode we learn about a fantastic resource for those small businesses and entrepreneurs in our area that are developing a manufacturing focused business. The start up process for these types of businesses can be incredibly challenging due the prohibitive cost of the manufacturing tools, machines, and facilities. Many of these necessities have price tags in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and require highly skilled and trained operators. Fortunately for those in this situation help is available. The Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing exists just to serve this purpose. We started the conversation in the machine shop area and went through some demonstrations first.  Then we talked in detail with Jamie Cope about the mission of RCBI.  In the podcast you’ll hear the conversation with Jamie first and the machine shop tour and demonstration next. From the RCBI website: About RCBI The Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing (RCBI) encourages job creation, economic development, innovation and entrepreneurship by supporting manufacturing companies of all sizes. We offer leading-edge equipment use and specialized training for everyone from sole proprietors to Fortune 500 companies. Simply put, our goal is to use our Advanced Manufacturing Technology Centers across West Virginia to provide the resources that individuals and companies need to create, sustain, and expand their businesses. Episode 3 – Bill Currey of the Coal River Group
In Episode 3 of Triple Sevens Expedition Radio we’re talking with Bill Currey, founder and Chairman of the Coal River Group.  The Coal River Group (CRG) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the protecting, preserving, and promoting the Coal River watershed. Since 2004 the Group has been working to restore the quality of the watershed and increase river recreation in southern West Virginia. After visiting with Bill at the CRG Science and Education Center Steve and I went to have lunch at Four Brothers Coffee. While there we’d reflect on the conversation we’d just had with Bill and the fascination we’d both just developed for the Coal River. It is a very good lunch spot and the atmosphere is great.  But please there is some background noise for the first couple minutes. StandWatch.org offers First Aid
-Podcast at the bottom of the page-   Thanks to StandWatch.org for our medkit.  It goes without saying that First Aid knowledge and preparation is one of the primary necessities for anyone that participates in outdoor and adventure sports.  Basic preparedness can literally be the difference maker in a life or death situation.  And while I’ve had a bit of basic training I won’t even begin go into tips or advice on this topic.  There are many people in the Overland community far more qualified than I.  In fact, the My Medic webpage appears to be a pretty good source.  There is even an Outdoor Adventure First Aid Guide in this kit that at quick glance looks to have tons of helpful information. While we’re on the topic of StandWatch and medical care it’s worth sharing their upcoming Veteran support clinic on May 25th.  On this day The StandWatch.org medical team will provide field medical services during the Run for the Wall overnight stop in Hurricane, West Virginia.  The annual Run for the Wall brings together thousands of bikers and their supporters as they make their way across the United States from Ontario Californian to Washington D.C. to honor veterans, particularly those who fought in the Vietnam War.  And every year they stop overnight in Hurricane, WV, our home town. This sponsor/partnership with StandWatch is one of our favorites.  Not just because of personal connections and the geographic closeness.  But because these guys are truly out there trying to make a difference.  They saw a problem and mobilized to provide a solution.  Zac Northup, Al Conaway, and Dr. Melin Moses (the founders) and many volunteers are working to fill the gap that veterans face while waiting for assistance or treatment from other providers.  This wait has proven to be far too long for too many of our Veterans.  StandWatch provides free medical care for those Veterans.  We’ll be hanging out and lending a hand with them on Wednesday and have many more joint operations in the works. If you’d like to know
