As cars — both electric and non-electric — have become ever more complex, so too have the wiring looms inside them needed to grow in their size and complexity. But that extra size adds unwanted weight, which in electric vehicles can cause a whole slew of problems, including poor range and performance. Tesla has just come up with a solution that – and designed a loom that’s not only a lot less complicated, but uses far less materials and can be installed by a robot inside the factory, slashing production times and production costs. Taxis are a common sight in the world’s major cities. In New York City, they’re the famous Yellow cabs. In London, it’s the Black Hackney Carriage. While they’re a great way to get around cities, they’re not all that fuel efficient. In fact, in one recent study, it was found that black cabs emit up to thirty times the NOx of a similar-aged petrol car. Ever since the 2018 Nissan LEAF launched in late 2017, we’ve heard stories of LEAF owners frustrated that their brand-new electric car rapid charged just fine once per day — but if you added more rapid charging sessions in quick succession, the car turned down rapid charging power to the point that the car was taking two or maybe even three times the quoted time to charge. New cars (worldwide, not just in Europe) were given the new update at the factory — but in North America, the European solution wasn’t offered to customers. It meant that North American early-adopters were stuck with the same rapidgate problem that their European counterparts suffered — but without the software update to fix it. Now it appears Nissan North America is quietly pushing that update after significant campaigning from owners. here’s what you need to know about it – and why Nissan hasn’t finished its Rapidgate remedial work just yet. Tesla’s Supercharger program — and free, unlimited Supercharger access — was one of its strongest selling points when the Model S (and eventually Model X) were in their infancy. But as Tesla has grown it has been forced to cut back on its Supercharger policies – first making Supercharging a perk only for referral program customers and then making it limited based on a set amount of electricity. Throughout this however, all older Model S and Model X cars which were purchased with truly free, unlimited Supercharging were able to keep that privilege, even when they changed hands.
