Dylan Michél
Originally from Perth but now based in Melbourne, producer Dylan Michél / Wooshie caught up with Fenella Kernebone in a noisy Melbourne pub, to explain how he put together one of his tracks. It was recorded in a quick session with his buddy and collaborator, Silent Jay on the vocals. It's a sexy, sweet, slow beat jam. A great example about keeping things pared back, yet complex. Dylan also runs the excellent Melbourne label, This Thing which releases artists such as Andras Fox, Galapagoose, Kane Ikin, Guerre, Thomas William and plenty of other. Thanks to Dylan for the beer and the chat

'Lightcycles' by ShockOne - Part 2
Perth’s ShockOne is Karl Thomas a big name in the drum & bass scene and one Australia’s premiere bass producers. In the previous episode, Karl unpacks the compositional process that went into the crafting of the sweeping orchestral prelude, that leads into this final track, Lightcycles from the album Universus. It's a concept album of sorts, about “the life and death of the universe" and this final track is a “sonic representation of the end of universe”. So here is Part 2 of my chat with ShockOne - about the wonderful dreamy work, Lightcycles on Trackwork. More info on the artists page - http://trackwork.org/artists/#/shockone/

'Lightcycles (Prelude)' by ShockOne - Part 1
Hailing from Perth, drum & bass producer, Karl Thomas aka ShockOne fills dance floors around the world. He can be found at major venues, parties and festivals all over, ensuring that you dance and then dance some more. As one of Australia's leading bass producers he has, over the past few years, built a huge following for his music and live shows, ever since the release of his debut EP, the ShockOne EP in 2009, featuring the track Polygon. He's received massive rotation on Triple J and elsewhere and support from major DJs in Australia and internationally including Annie Mac from Radio One. He’s also a lovely guy and Fenella Kernebone caught up with him for Trackwork to hear about the final track on his recent album, Universus (2013), called Lightcycles. And because the track is epic and divided into two parts on his album (Light Cycles (Prelude) + Lightcycles), we thought we'd follow suit. So in this "prelude" episode, Karl Thomas aka ShockOne talks about the makings of the gorgeous orchestral prelude that leads up to the final piece, Lightcycles. And in the following episode, you can hear the full conversation with Karl and hear the track in full.

'Montecore' by PVT
A decade ago, Sydney outfit, Pivot (PVT today) released their debut album, Make Me Love You, in August 2005. PVT had been writing music and gigging for a few years leading up to the release and as Laurence Pike says in this episode of Trackwork, the group saw the band as a vehicle to explore new ideas. These days PVT is a 3 piece with Richard Pike, brother Laurence Pike and Dave Miller. While there is a new album in the works, in this episode we head back to the very first one. Laurence recalls the production and ideas that went into the track Montecore.

'Nightworld' by Dro Carey
The 4th episode features Sydney producer, Eugene Ward unpacking one of his tracks created under his primary dance music alias, Dro Carey. Ward also makes sounds as Tuff Sherm and under his own name, where he skirts a collection of genres and territories including house, techno and UK Garage. What is evident when you speak to him is his deep understanding of programming and a wonderful vocabulary when it comes to describing his approach to music - what he does and how he produces a track. His most recent release is the EP Club Injury Handbook from late 2014 – but I was really keen to hear Eugene describe a track from a 2013 EP called Vital Trails. It’s the opening track and it’s killer.
