Hitting The Gym With Jim Laird
So today I am going to interview Mr. Jim Laird. For those of you who might not know him he is an amazing strength and conditioning coach. He was NCAA Division I coach for four years, he has worked with many professional athletes from the NFL the CFL the LPGA and major-league baseball. He also works with a lot of civilians. What I mean is the average dude who walks in off the street or lady, looking to get in shape and lose some body fat. He also podcasts on Kiefer's Body IO network. He was an elite level power lifter and he pushed himself to the limit so he knows what it takes to succeed and also what it takes out of the body. He now trains clients with the philosophy of "Train smarter not harder". Jim has mastered the art of balancing performance and health in high-level training. At his gym he has a fantastic staple of powerlifters many of whom are women. At a recent powerlifting competition in Ohio for the Natural Athlete Strength Association, Jim had 13 women participating. Every competitor smashed their personal records and the team achieved many state and national records during the meet. He understands the balance of hard training to get results and good recovery. As fighters we need to understand these principles. As fighters, trying to get The most out of our bodies, we need to dig into the discipline and the work ethic of wrestlers, powerlifters, and all athletes that push their bodies past human expectations. As fighters we need to know how to do this safely and in a way that we can continue doing all of our other training and not tear ourselves down beyond recovery. I am very happy to have Jim on the podcast and I am very proud that he originally came from Canada. The man's name is Jim Laird and his gym is called Gym Laird spelled G Y M. Look him up at: gymlaird.com Here are some other links that might be helpful. http://robertsontrainingsystems.com/ http://www.posturalrestoration.com/ http://body.io/gym-laird-02-doc-kirk-parsley-why-sleep-is-important/

How to be the biggest bad-ass in MMA with Dan "The Beast" Severn
Mr. Dan and the beast Severn. He has had one of the longest careers in MMA history. According to Wikipedia he has had over 127 mixed martial arts fights, 101 wins, 17 by knockout, 60 submissions, but these are very conservative estimates of his true fight numbers he has had a long history in Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling. As a high school wrestler Severn was a two-time national champion and set eight national records in his career. he was inducted into Arizona State University's wrestling hall of fame at the end of his college career. He was two-time All-American at Arizona State University, and a wrestling coach at both Arizona State and Michigan State in 1984 and 1988, He was a Olympic trials finalist. he lost the final qualifying match in controversial fashion to eventual gold medal winner Lou Banach but his career was just beginning at that point. He did quite a lot of no holds barred fighting before the ufc even became popular. he was featured in USA Today, People, Karate and Kung Fu Illustrated, Black Belt Magazine, MAD, Full Contact Fighter, and many of the pro wrestling publications. he holds annual wrestling clinics for kids of all ages. he opened a 10,000-square-foot training facility on his property called "Michigan Sports Camps" in Coldwater, Michigan. and they train individuals for mixed martial arts, boxing, kickboxing, amateur wrestling and professional wrestling. Severn entered the UFC in 1994 at UFC 4: when I believe he was 37 where he impressed many UFC fans by executing two impressive back suplexes on Anthony Macias. THEN HE was defeated by Royce Gracie in an historic match that brought bjj huge attention. He had a long career in ufc and many other promotions mfc, kotc, etc has also trained and became a mentor to notable mixed martial artists including don fry and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans, The Ultimate Fighter’s Luke Zachrich, Sean Sherk, and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Severn was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame at UFC 52. he started wrestling or “rasling” as he calls it in the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) in 1995, and defeated Chris Candido for his first NWA World Heavyweight Championship and went to hold the NWA Championship for four years, the longest reign in over two decades and currently the third-longest reign in the belt's history. he was in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1998 but that story is along and interesting one for another day! as you can see he credentials go on and on. I just want all the listeners to understand how much he has contributed to the world of wrestling and full contact fighting in general. We all owe guys like him a huge debt for their contribution to the sport we all love.
