Revisiting Therapy in the Time of Pandemic
In this episode, Dr. Elizabeth Foley returns for us to revisit the topic of doing therapy during a global pandemic. We talk about the benefits and challenges of online therapy- 10 months into this crisis. We also talk about whether therapists and clients will continue to stay online, retain physical space, or return to in-person work and how they can up their self-care. Issues related to client’s investment in online therapy and the impact of teletherapy on safety planning are also discussed.  Dr. Elizabeth Foley is a psychologist in private practice in Montreal at the Resilience clinic which she co-founded. She works with adults and older adolescents with a particular focus on anxiety, depression, trauma and OCD. She has a soft spot for working with mothers with perinatal mental health issues and people with personality disorders. Until 2018, Dr. Foley was the director of the cognitive behaviour therapy service at the Jewish General Hospital, where she still supervises psychology students and psychiatry residents one day per week. Mental Health Advocacy in COVID
Psychiatrist Dr. Jessica Gold joins me to discuss mental health advocacy in the popular press and social media, how she navigates this responsibility and amplifies the voices of frontline workers and therapists particularly during COVID 19. We also talk about therapists in therapy and how Jessi how she supports frontline workers in her work. Jessica (“Jessi”) Gold, MD, MS, is an Assistant Professor and the Director of Wellness, Engagement, and Outreach in the Department of Psychiatry at Washington University in Saint Louis. She works clinically as an outpatient psychiatrist and primarily sees college and graduate students, as well as faculty, staff, and hospital employees. In her administrative role, Dr. Gold is helping her university and hospital's overall mental health response to covid for faculty and staff and finding acute and sustainable ways to take care of our own. Dr. Gold is particularly interested in college mental health, women’s mental health and gender equity, physician wellness, and the overlap between popular media, stigma, and psychiatry. Neurodiversity and Social Justice

Psychologist Allison Haynes is with me on the podcast today to talk about neurodiversity in the practice of psychology. Race, Ethnicity, & Culture in Therapy
Kadesha Adelakun, LCSW, RPT-S joins me to discuss race, ethnicity, and culture in therapy. We discuss the barriers to therapy, the under-representation of BIPOC therapists, having difficult discussions with children about race, and the steps we can take to become more culturally competent, humble, and inclusive therapists.  Kadesha is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), in the states of Georgia and New Jersey, and a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Morris Brown College and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Georgia. She is eclectic in her approach, using play therapy and many different therapeutic interventions to meet the needs of her clients. She also specializes in working with children and adolescents with behavioral challenges, as well as, parenting support and training. She is passionate about helping people with ethnic, cultural, and racial identity issues and/or trauma, as well as moms adjusting to motherhood.
