Howard W. Hunter- Chapter 24: Following the Example of Jesus Christ
Don’t get lost in the bustle of Christmas. Use this time help us in Following the Example of Jesus Christ. This week on Third Hour of Power we discuss Chapter 24 of the Howard W. Hunter Manual, Following the Example of Jesus Christ. There are a lot of traits of Christ. Which ones are your favorites, are there some you struggle with? To truly know them and our potential to follow them, we must learn of Him. My wife Kristie of Our Kerrazy Adventure is the guest this week. We talk about how we are trying to follow Jesus Christ. One thing Kristie and I share is our Christmas Eve Nativity. If that is a tradition you would like to join in on, you can get the script I created on Kristie’s site. Over on This Mormon Life, you can check out our newest movie reviews! Announcement! We are updating feeds in the upcoming year, so be sure you that are subscribed to the latest below! The Third Hour of Power is a Production of This Week in Mormons. Do you find this podcast helps you prepare for High Priests, Elders Quorum, or Relief Society? If so, you should check out their sister podcast: Sunday School Bonanza. You can also check out their flagship podcast, This Week in Mormons. Howard W. Hunter- Chapter 23: “No Less Serviceable”
Whether you think you have a big calling or a small calling, your dedicated commitment is no less serviceable than anyone else who magnifies their calling. This week on Third Hour of Power we discuss Chapter 23 of the Howard W. Hunter Manual, “No Less Serviceable”. We share some stories of people who were in what might seem minor callings and the major impact they had on our lives. (Including the diligent Home Teacher who helped my family return to activity in the Church.) There are some great Mormon Messages that can serve as strong primers for your class if you are a teacher. The messages are about 9 minutes long, so you might not want to show them in third hour. Send your class the link and ask them to watch before they come. The first one would be for Quorums called “Lift“. Is focuses on a group of men who were changed as individuals and as a quorum as they served. The second video would be great for Relief Society. Mothers have a lot of responsibility. Not only do they run a household, raise children, offer compassionate service, and sometimes they just want to be a woman. “You Never Know How Much Good You Do” puts into perspective the lives we can touch for good when we will simply serve. Heather of LDS Leadership is back on the podcast and has some great stories of her own to share in the episode. She has also been hard at helping Young Women leaders get their youth involved in #LIGHTtheWORLD. You should download these Kits and Tutorials to assist your Young Women in service. I have started doing movie reviews again! I have missed it, but this time around, we are doing video reviews instead of written reviews. You can see my review of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on Facebook or YouTube. Announcement! We are updating feeds in the upcoming year, so be sure you that are subscribed to the latest below!

Howard W. Hunter- Chapter 22: Teaching the Gospel
Are you a teacher who wants to get better at Teaching the Gospel? If you aren’t a teacher now, just wait a few weeks you’ll teach soon enough. To get you ready, this week’s lesson is on Howard W. Hunter Chapter 22: Teaching the Gospel. I am back in my Dad’s office and I am joined by sister Summer. When she was newly called to teach her Gospel Doctrine class she felt very inadequate for the task. She shares the tips she implemented to overcome that feeling. Summer’s website, Elevate Everyday, empowers women to be their best selves. She specializes in ‘mordest’ clothing (modest & affordable) and has some great fall picks right now. If you are looking for some other teaching helps for this lesson, I shared deeper analysis of 3 Nephi 11:15.

Howard W. Hunter- Chapter 21: Faith and Testimony
Faith and Testimony go hand in hand. The lesson, Howard W. Hunter- Chapter 21: Faith and Testimony, shows how these two principles work together to increase. When we are obedient, we are blessed with faith. Faith is a power that motivates us to follow God commencements. This pattern can bring us joy and this joy help us build a testimony that follow God will bring us happiness. Do you have someone who you can just talk to about gospel doctrines and principles? My Dad is one of those people for me. While home for the week, I invited my Dad, Glenn, to join me. No, he wont do Santa for your Ward Christmas Party. Onething he will do is take great care of your car. That was part of the reason we were in town. I drove all the way from Arizona to California. For the Glenn’s Alignment & Brake Service special treatment (and family discount). As October closed out, our contest for the Best General Conference Themed T-Shirt has come to an end. We are adding the most popular shirt to our store! You should check it out.

HWH Chapter 20: Walking the Savior’s Path of Charity
Of all of the Christlike attributes, often the most needed is charity. In order to follow Christ, we must be walking the savior’s path of charity. ou know you are in a good lesson when you learn something from the instructor. A better lesson has a constructive conversation where you all learn from each other. The best setting for a lesson is one where all are taught by the Spirit. Heather of LDS Youth Leadership is my guest this week. We both felt the spirit as we discussed this lesson, and we gained new sights into the parable of The Good Samaritan. For you teachers, here is a link to the Elder Bednar message Heather shared. If you are an instructor of youth, you would love Heather’s Facebook Group. It is all about teaching based on the principles in the Come Follow Me manual. I loved General Conference and I thought it would be fun to make more General Conference Themed T-Shirts. To everyone involved we are crowd-sourcing our ideas. To make it interesting we have a contest for those who design and those who vote!

HWH Chapter 19: Our Commitment to God
With General Conference being in our rear view mirror, this is a great time to renew our commitment to God. This episode, we are studying Howard W. Hunter Chapter 19: Our Commitment to God. There were a lot of great talks at General Conference with important messages: Elder Holland with his emphasis on Home Teaching, Elder Hales with his reminder that many are missing the blessing of Family Home Evening, and Elder Stevenson’s encouragement to read the Book of Mormon. Sometimes we might feel like we are coming up short. It might be a good time to assess our commitment to God This week I am joined by my wonderful wife Kristie of Our Kerrazy Adventure. She is a homemaking wiz and with Halloween coming up, you should check out her DIY Holloween costumes. I loved General Conference and I thought it would be fun to make more General Conference Themed T-Shirts. To everyone involved we are crowdsourcing our ideas. To make it interesting we have a contest for those who design and those who vote!

HWH Chapter 18: We Believe in Being Honest
We are going back to some primary fundamentals with Chapter 18, "We Believe in Being Honest." Believing in honesty is a very simple concept on the surface, but this lesson takes the concept of being honest down a few layers. Have you ever considered the idea that not helping clean up at a ward activity might be considered dishonest? We will discuss the correlation in this episode. Joining me this episode is past guest Heather Mecham of LDS Youth Leadership. Heather is a firm believer in a youth-led young men and women program. With my new calling in the Deacons, I have drawn on her expertise often. Heather has a great ebook right now on “The Smart Way to Plan Meaningful Youth Activities.” LDS Youth Leadership has been a great partner of the podcast and Heather is offering listeners 50% off with the promo code: TML50. If you serve with the youth and have struggled through a planning meeting, you will want to check this out. We just shared a Breakfast Hack to help you get your morning underway faster so you can do fun things like Play Pokemon GO with your kids. We shared a recent adventure hunting Pokemon that you should check out. The Third Hour of Power is a Production of This Week in Mormons. Do you find this podcast helps you prepare for High Priests, Elders Quorum, or Relief Society? If so, you should check out their sister podcast:Sunday School Bonanza. You can also check out their flagship podcast, This Week in Mormons. There Geoff and Al discuss current events in the Church and its members.

HWH Chapter 17: Preserve and Protect the Family
In today’s world, what are you doing to preserve and protect the family? Chapter 17 of the Howard W. Hunter manual will help you protect your own family as well as the fundamental unit in society. The previous lesson was focused on marriage, and now we expand to the entire family unit. One of the best ways we preserve and protect the family is to build families that are strong and make positive contributions to society. We discuss things we have done to have to strengthen our own family that you can implement today. Liz Tennyson of I’m a Fit Mormon is our guest this week. She has a unique take on how to preserve and protect the family because her husband serves in the military and can be deployed for many months at a time. If you have to shoulder the burden of parenthood alone, her perspective can be very helpful. Liz also has more ways to help. She is organizing a Fit for Good event to help you live the “Do’s” of the Word of Wisdom. Physical health has such an impact on our emotional and spiritual health. We have been working hard on improving marriage and family on the blog and at home. The blog has shared our 5 essential tips to get kids to work. We created a super fun music video set to former guest Jamesthemormon’s new song “Workin.”
