Tamu Thomas - Trust. Trauma and Truth. TIWIK - S4 E15
Trigger warning: We discuss trauma, mental health issues & race in this episode.   I have been wanting to speak to Tamu on this podcast for a hot minute and this week it happened! Tamu’s work is informed by her background of sixteen years in social work, somatic coach training, her love of behavioural neuroscience and polyvagal theory, positive psychology, spirituality and joy. Tamu combines these modalities to create a multifaceted body of work that helps her clients begin to tend to their needs, feel safe in their bodies, befriend themselves and begin to enjoy who they are.  Key Points from the interview: How trauma can be alchemised into fertilizer that supports your growth. How many are only getting "bar snacks" of growth rather than the "full nutrition-rich version"! How "Super Positive" messages are not always what they seem and how to discern. The Truth of Trust, and how to access it. Dr. Peta Stapleton - Tapping the Inner Healer - TIWIK S4 E12
EFT. Emotional Freedom Technique. Thought Field Therapy was accidentally discovered by Roger Callaghan and it evolved and was developed into EFT by Gary Craig. It looks crazy and off the wall, but practitioners were noticing how it could create almost instant relief and change within clients. Now, Dr Peta Stapleton takes it to the next level. Key Points From the Interview. How EFT has been researched and is looking more miraculous than ever. How gene expression (the difference between being ill and not being ill) can change dramatically. Welcome to a frank, spirited and funny discussion with the conditions articulated from personal and present experience - learn more about it, and how to understand someone who suffers from it better. Key points from the interview: How Ceri found freedom and manages her condition. A perversely funny reason that Bipolar is hard to diagnose. Shauna Cummins - Wishcraft & mind massaging - TIWIK S4 E10
Trigger warning: This podcast has mentions OCD, CPTSD, parental death, childhood illness and hospitalisation, pandemic and mental health.   When you think of hypnosis, what do you think of? People clucking like a chicken on a stage with all their mates laughing at them? Me too! But not after this fascinating chat with Shauna. Oh no, this Woman will teach you how to make your mind work for you, not against you. That when you tap into what you appreciate about yourself and learn the art of the Wishcraft, you really can turn wishes into actions and make them a reality.    We talk about how Shauna went from being burnt out working in the fashion and publishing industry to finding more meaning and purpose in her life through hypnosis and self-directed neuroplasticity. How through tapping into and reclaiming our childlike states we can use fantasy and imagination to transcend difficult experiences and build a better future for us all.    Key points from the conversation: Suspending disbelief - the difference between having a somatic experience whilst watching a movie (ie: don’t go up those stairs!!) and watching a behind the scenes where you are aware that it’s not real. How the brain doesn’t know the difference between something we vividly imagine and something that is real.  How you can work through childhood trauma and shame using the medicine of the imagination. How building compassion can help us embrace more positivity to stop us from getting stuck in negativity bias.  Being a sceptic and how to find balance the spiritual world and being a grounded, present human being.  How water was believed to be sacred and the gods lived in it which is how wishing wells in the UK were created. A way to communicate with the gods. Can you be too spiritual? Does spirituality give you a judgement and empathy bypass? Shauna Cummins is a certified Clinical Hypnosis Practitioner with a private practice in New York, author of Wishcraft (2021), holder of ceremonies, multi-disciplinary artist and founder of Divine Feminine School of Hypnosis and Mind Massage Hotline. She is the resident event hypnotist at The Four Seasons Hotel New York Downton and regularly teaches workshops and conducts ceremonies in NYC and abroad. She also creates hypnotic sound art and installations. Her work has been featured at various wellbeing centres, galleries, events and publications across the globe.     The method she developed and works with is called Wishcraft™. Wishcraft is self-hypnosis that teaches the art of well-wishing as a practice for changing thought patterns and beliefs, turning wishes into action. She currently lives in the woods in a magical healing house with three wishing wells in upstate New York.   Reach out to Shauna here: https://www.shaunacummins.com/ Grab a copy of Wishcraft here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=shauna+cummins&ref=nb_sb_noss ----- Things I Wish I'd Known Podcast is brought to you by Rachael Welford - Women's Anxiety Coach and Therapist. Sue Hunt - Designing a Non Binary World - TIWIK S4 E13
Whether we like it or not the current World model is pretty binary. Whether we look at it from the perspective of gender or right and wrong, healthy and unhealthy, healed and unhealed. Everything has a polar opposite, or does it? In this episode, Rachael speaks with Sue Hunt, author of Transitory Nature. Sue is looking at the World through a new non-binary lens. Maybe things aren't as black and white as they seem, maybe we can live in the grey areas.    Sue Hunt is a radical Buddhist and has been sharing public teachings on spirituality, living ethics, and the intersectionality of being human, for the past 15 years, all over the US and overseas. Sue just released her first book, Transitory Nature: Breaking Binaries for Integrated Being, in April 2021. With her life partner Dan, she is a co-founder of Live Lightly and Live Lightly Supplements. She is also co-author of The Sister Body Oracle Deck. She lives in Taos, New Mexico. Find her at www.suehunt.com. Key Points From the Interview: Radical Freedom- what it means, and how the approach needs to be gentle. Why the WTF moment is a doorway to spirituality! (Maybe WTF could mean "Wow, That's Freedom?!!") What a Non Binary World view really means and how it is virtually the opposite of what the prevailing worldview is (but we do seem to be edging in the right direction!) ----- Things I Wish I'd Known Podcast is brought to you by Rachael Welford - Women's Anxiety Coach and Therapist. Janey Lee Grace - TIWIK about staying sober. S3. Ep 14.
To end this season of Things I Wish I'd Known (I know I am sad too!) I'm speaking with Janey Lee Grace. She has done so many things in her life, it's almost difficult to create an intro for her. During this episode, we discuss the fear of losing control and the pressure on Mum’s when it comes to alcohol. We chat about the need and excitement we both feel for the new alcohol-free alternatives that stop you from drinking diet coke all night and how we will leave a party if it’s sh*t because without alcohol you tend to notice much earlier :-) Janey shares her journey from numbing out uncomfortable emotions with booze, and the shock she felt when she realised the links between anxiety and alcohol, to ditching the booze for more contentment and calm. This is a must-listen for anyone who is sober or sober curious.  Janey's a regular presenter on Radio 2, an author of several books, including her latest one, Look great naturally without the ditching the lipstick. She hosts her own podcast, The alcohol-free life, which I've been lucky enough to guest on (listen here).  Runs the Sober Club membership and is a presenter and speaker who is passionate about ditching the booze and living a healthier lifestyle.
