The Zogby Report: Real and Unscripted (Episode 20) 05.22.2020

On today’s episode let’s debate.
We look at how different countries have reacted to the pandemic and the effectiveness of their approaches as well as what the long term cultural and economic impacts will be. Is there strong consensus on the way forward and what role and responsibility does the media have to present various ideas, especially unpopular ones?

We’ll also shift focus to the 2020 campaign and where Trump stands in terms of his re-election chances. We’ll look how important the idea of trust is, and make some predictions on who is leading the race for VP.

Next week we’ll get into the details of our latest poll around predicting the future, so don’t miss it. Thanks again for listening, commenting, sharing and subscribing! Have a safe Memorial Weekend.

John Zogby Strategies · The Zogby Report | 05/22/20 – A Pandemic Debate

SHOW NOTES:

2:00 – COVID19 Responsiveness

We’re having a generational debate on the the effectiveness of lockdown measures across the country and across the world. Is there only one way to address a pandemic such as this? What can we learn from how varying nations including S. Korea and Sweden have approached containment and re-opening? Is there really strong consensus on the way forward and what role and responsibility does the media have to present various ideas, especially unpopular ones?

18:45 – Decision 2020 Update
As of today, on average, Biden leads Trump by 5 1/2% points in major national polls but individual polls show Biden leading by 11% or 1% depending on who is polling – so be sure to read into the data to see WHO is being polled. Among those who disapprove of Trump – they STRONGLY disapprove – well over 50%. The fact remains that a handful of battleground states will most likely decide the election and Trump could conceivably win the electoral college while losing the popular vote by a margin of 5%.

25:00 – Attacking Obama
Do the continuous attacks by Trump on Barack Obama matter? Or is this a tactic to continue to try to keep his base motivated?

27:20 – VP Buzz
We’ll also make some predictions on the race for the VP nomination and the implications that various choices have for the election and for Congress.
