The Zogby Report: Real and Unscripted (Episode 46) 11.20.2020
This week on the podcast it’s a lively discussion about national community. How do you heal a nation when there are two different worlds of information and narratives being presented to the American people that are at odds with each other? Do we still have a national community and is it essential? Or are we two nations drifting apart? We’ll talk about how both parties try to de-legitimize the other and the media’s role, and with new travel advisories from the CDC, will Americans trust science and experts as COVID19 infection rates spike yet again? John Zogby Strategies · The Zogby Report | 11/20/20 – How to we heal the nation? SHOW NOTES: 0:40 – Is it time for Trump to concede? It’s time for Trump to give it up before his legacy is simply cemented as the President who worked to undermine the democratic process in the United States. Many of the Republicans around Trump may finally be tiring of his strategy. 03:05 – Media and National Legitimacy What happens when both sides seek to de-legitimize the other and what are the long-term implications for our democracy? 14:50 – The Tyranny of the Minority One side has to accept that the other has won and the other stands down. Our country seems to be at an impasse where 5 million votes separates the candidates, with no evidence of massive voter fraud, and yet our country seems to still be at an impasse. What’s next is troubling. 20:00 – COVID19 and Travel Warnings The CDC is warning there should not be holiday travel with the latest infection rates showing 1 million new cases this week and the no end in sight. Will America trust science? The next several weeks will put that to the test and will determine the fate of thousands of Americans. Are their credible alternative voices that are not being heard? Is ‘science’ even a term that is agreed upon?

The Zogby Report: Real and Unscripted (Episode 44) 11.06.2020
It’s the Friday after Election Day which is turning into Election Week and beyond and while we don’t know the official results of the race, it’s clear the country is still very divided, but that a Biden Presidency is looking more and more likely. We’re in the polling business, and today we’ll take a look at not just the state of the race but the state of the polling industry. What did pollsters, get right, wrong, and how does it need to adjust from here. It’s evident that most national polls didn’t get it right (again). Finally Let’s look toward the future. What might we see in a Biden Presidency in this time of political tribalism. John Zogby Strategies · The Zogby Report | 11/06/20 – The Race, The Polls & The Future SHOW NOTES: 00:50 – Election Recap 05:10 – The State of Polling 19:15 – What’s Going to Happen/Political Tribalism Thanks for tuning in, and for your great questions at this past Monday’s Virtual Town Hall. The Zogby Report: Real and Unscripted (Episode 43) 10.30.2020
What’s Going On and What Does It Mean? On today’s podcast we’re bringing you our analysis of the latest polls and what they mean. Even though most polls show Biden leading Trump, remember 4 years ago, Clinton had an even greater advantage in many polls though she was moving down in the polls. The biggest difference was that in many battleground states, it was clear that Clinton was in a downward spiral. We’re not seeing a clear trend here. Some days in many battleground states things are moving back and forth between the two candidates. Remember, over 80 million people have voted already. One thing is clear, is that there is the potential for a blue wave. So who is going to win? It’s unclear. We’ll give you our (differing) thoughts. John Zogby Strategies · The Zogby Report | 10/30/20 -What’s Going On and What Does It Mean? Show Notes: 01:00 – The Latest Polls and What They Mean 13:10 – Social Desirability Bias Are there enough Trump voters who are not vocal about their support (or Democrats who will vote Trump) to sway the election? We’ll give you some of our thoughts. 19:00 – Our Latest Forbes Poll 21:00 – Hip Hop Endorsements Several prominent Hip Hop Artists have endorsed Trump’s Platinum Plan or Trump himself. How might this affect black voters? Other Notes: We’ve added Video to our podcast! You can watch us as well as listen by subscribing to our YouTube channel or viewing this week’s episode here. The Zogby Report: Real and Unscripted (Episode 42) 10.23.2020
Last night was a much more subdued debate and the President was well-advised to talk more about his actions and accomplishments. Vice President Biden did what he needed to do, which is not to make a headline the next day, and maintain his lead in what is still a tight race, particularly in battleground states. With two-weeks to go until Election Day and with millions of ballots already cast, where does Trump go from here? He does have a narrow path to victory and one under-reported factor that could hold the key is Libertarian candidate Jo Jorgensen. We’ll also cover some of the findings from our Main St./K St. IntelligenSEER Report on the state of the American Dream, and whether or not our country needs a reboot. Finally, don’t miss our live Town Hall happening Monday November 2nd at noon where we’ll be releasing our latest poll data and take your questions. You can sign up to join us here. John Zogby Strategies · The Zogby Report | 10/23/20 – How Trump Can Win SHOW NOTES: 01:00 Debate Recap: Last night was a much more subdued debate and the President was well-advised to talk more about issues and accomplishments. The moderator, Kristen Welker did a very good job keeping the debate under control, and Vice President Biden did what he needed to do, which is not to make a headline the next day. We’re watching several polls now in addition to our own polling and we’re seeing them start to bunch together- again showing a closer race than before. The President is consolidating his base as well as evangelicals. Where he goes from there, we don’t know. But there is a narrow path to victory. 04:10 How Trump Can Win: How does Trump win this? There IS a narrow path to victory and it runs through the battleground states of PA, MI, FL and WI. Biden has not locked any of them up yet. The way he wins is Jo Jorgensen – the Libertarian candidate who is polling at 3%. 1% of those votes could peel off and go to Trump at the last minute, and that could be enough. 12:00 The State of the American Dream: In our latest Main St./K St. IntelligenSEER probes the state of the American Dream. When we arrive at the question fo whether our country needs a great reset or revisit the age old principles of the past? The vast majority of Republicans want to revisit age-old principles, and the vast majority of Democrats say we need a great reset. It comes down to independents. 48% align with revisiting age-old principles. That says to us, there are just enough Independents and Republicans who are saying we don’t want to go forward with a large shift in our society and that bodes well for Trump. 16:30: Our Live Town Hall 11/2 at noon. The Zogby Report: Real and Unscripted (Episode 41) 10.16.2020
Let’s look at where we stand. A brand new poll by Investors Business Daily and TIPP has a 6-point race with Biden in the lead 49% to 43%. The polls have been moving around and while it does look likely that Biden will win, don’t go to your bookmaker yet. We’ll share the latest polls and some of the other important data that show that the race is still very much one that is too close to call. Finally, we’ll be releasing our final poll data the weekend of the election and will host our own Live Town Hall event Monday November 2nd. We’ll share the results of the poll and you’ll also have the opportunity to engage in our QandA. You can sign up with the link in our email blast. John Zogby Strategies · The Zogby Report | 10/16/20 – Hold Your Horses Show Notes: 01:00 – Where do we stand? We’ll look at and interpret all the latest polling and help you to understand why you’re seeing some of the numbers that you are. 05:00 Other Data What other data can help us understand what might happen between now and Election Day in terms of mobilization and enthusiasm? Trump volunteers have reached out to 20 million homes in swing states. Gallup – Are you better off now? 56% say they ARE better off now than they were under Obama Trafalgar Group – Predicts Trump narrowly wins the electoral college with 275 votes Marco Kolanovic – based on voter registration in PA, FL and NC it does not look like a Gem sweep in those states. In our polling Biden leads by 16% by those who have already voted or by those who will mail in Trump leads by 18% by those who will wait until Election Day. Keep in mind 20 million people have already voted. These are signals that point back to our thesis – that it’s too close to call. 13:05 – What’s the biggest news of the week? Dr. David Nabarro made news this week with the appeal from The Who for governments to stop using lockdowns as the primary method to fight the virus and may bring a global crisis where poverty is doubled. Trump has already seized on this message and will carry it through Election Day. Trump still receives decent marks on the handling of the economy. While important the election will also hinge on empathy, whether people trust science and personality. A mistake the media (this includes social media platforms like Twitter) makes is that it’s evident they dislike Trump and have become combatants in the race.

The Zogby Report: Real and Unscripted (Episode 40) 10.09.2020
What a week it’s been with questions about the President’s condition and the upcoming debate. He’s been hospitalized, left the hospital, posted erratic messages online, refused to debate virtually, cancelled COVID stimulus talks, and now demanding a deal. So where does the race stand? Our numbers show Biden with a 2-3% lead while on the upper end CNN has Biden ahead by 16 points. We’ll explain why we’re getting the numbers we’re getting. Just as important – we’ll look at what the data tells us about the state of our country and what dangers may be ahead after November 3rd. John Zogby Strategies · The Zogby Report | 10/09/20 – It’s Closer Than You Think SHOW NOTES: 01:00 How We Get Our Numbers: First when you’re making a forecast, you want to be sure to the degree that you can that the sample model that you’re using is a reflection of the turnout on Election Day. Remember we use a 38% Democrat’s and 34% Republic model because we believe this is the most accurate numbers. Every other pollster that has a double digit lead is because they have an oversampling of Democrats and an under sampling of Republicans. We’re seeing energy on both sides and a lack of undecideds, including evangelicals and that’s why our model is showing a tighter race. 09:34 The state of the country. We’re living in a country where majorities don’t matter – intensities do. Things are being driven by who is the loudest. Our reporting is showing that a majority of the electorate will accept the results of the election if their candidate doesn’t win – but around 25% say they will not or might not. This is a dangerous situation. There are many in Congress who don’t need to go beyond their base due to gerrymandered districts and so compromise has been less common. We’ve seen multiple government shutdowns because Congress is in an ideological battle of some sort. There will be a reckoning. Whether that’s November 3rd, we don’t know. But we do not see Trump relinquishing office easily and there will be an enormous amount of pressure on Biden not to concede either.

The Zogby Report: Real and Unscripted (Episode 39) 10.02.2020
We’ll start with the first debate but also talk about the biggest story of the day which is the President and First Lady’s contracting COVID19. We’ve never seen anything like this and is simply extremely sad. It’s true that we’re all in a political reality show, and what we’re seeing is the first of probably many October surprises. John Zogby Strategies · The Zogby Report | 10/02/20 – The Political Reality Show Continues SHOW NOTES: 1:00 – The First Presidential Debate: Let’s start with the debate. We’ve never seen anything like this. There have to be some rules of engagement in a debate and those rules went out the window. Trump did what he does which is try to get under the skin of his opponents. But this strategy seemed to backfire. He showed a total lack of control and Biden came off as competent and empathetic. 09:25 – A Positive COVID19 Infection Following the debate the President tells a fundraising group that the pandemic is about to be over – and hours later testing positive for COVID19. What happens if the president gets extremely ill? Does that push the undecideds to Biden? What about a speedy recovery – how might he use that to his advantage to perhaps double down on opening the economy? Will the president take hydroxychloroquine as he’s touted in the past? This latest event can completely derail him or help him. 13:48 The Latest Polls The evidence we have so far from two post-debate polls is that the President did not help himself, and we’re awaiting data from the battleground states. Biden is leading on average by 7%-10% and we don’t see anything from the debate that is going to change that. In the data there may be some ‘shyness’ in who the public will actively say they will support so those numbers have the potential to shift over the next 30 days. Compound that with the President painting a rosy picture of the economy in contrast to a disappointing jobs report. So the two top issues (the economy and COVID19) are not working for the president. 2/3 of the public still disapprove of the handling of the pandemic and the potential for more October surprises. 19:38 – Our Latest Polls of Special Groups In our own polling, we’ve recently polled 600 black voters and discovered that though Biden leads substantially among this group, he’s not performing remotely as well as other candidates have in the past. If Trump gets that 14% of black voters, it could be a game changer in some major cities. On the flip side, when we polled jewish voters we found that 56% percent support the presidents recent Middle East deals, but 73% are inclined to vote for Biden anyway vs 26% for Trump.

The Zogby Report: Real and Unscripted (Episode 38) 09.25.2020
With the passing of RBG the President was able to line up the votes to clear the way for a new appointee, barely. Say what you like whether you agree or disagree with this move for him – a win is a win. But then Thursday night there is a bombshell – Trump refuses to endorse the results of the upcoming election and will not promise a smooth and orderly transition if Biden is elected. With such a small segment of the electorate genuinely undecided we think there has to be a substantial slice of those undecided who will be outraged by this statement. Where does this leave us? How do we avert a constitutional crisis and what is at the root of the problem? John Zogby Strategies · The Zogby Report | 09/25/20 – Does every action have an equal and opposite reaction? Show Notes: 1:00 – Week in Review 11:16 – What does the Constitution Say About Transitions? The Constitution only states that each state should choose electors to vote one month after Election Day. By and large there is no conflict here. So if the President declares that he does not concede – he can go to the swing states where the legislatures are controlled by Republicans and to bypass the tradition so that he can be retain power. 13:53 – The Root of the Problem Is the root of the problem that both parties no longer operate in the public interest? Everyone is focused on the President’s rhetoric that the election will be corrupt, but the Democrats in 2016 were also vocal that the Electoral College system should go. 20:30 – How can we avoid a constitutional crisis? The bigger debate may be the centralization of power vs. the decentralization of power.

The Zogby Report: Real and Unscripted (Episode 29) 07.24.2020
Today on the show we’ll give the latest updates on national polling in the race for the White House and how Trump appears be doing anything he can to improve his chances of re-election. But we’ll spend the remainder of today’s show discussing the 4th Industrial Revolution. It’s something that promises to reinvent and change most aspects of our lives, careers, and possibly our bodies. This relationship with technology and machines will have a profound effect on us all and we’ll share some interesting data about who is embracing this change and who fear it. John Zogby Strategies · The Zogby Report | 07/24/20 – The 4th Industrial Revolution SHOW NOTES 01:30 – Election Update We’ll start with a quick election update and once again we’re seeing the COVID19 pandemic affect the country in major ways including the most recent cancelling of the in-person parts of the Republican convention. In the most recent national polling Trump trails Biden by as few as 7 points to as much as 15 points nationwide and is behind in the key battleground states. If current trends continue, Biden looks to be expanding the map of competitive states. So if the election were held today Trump would be in serious trouble. This week we’re seeing Trump do whatever he thinks he can do to try to make up ground as we see him switching his rhetoric regarding the impact COVID19 is having on the country. People seem to be looking for a leader that can show stability and consistency, which is not Trump’s strong suit. He’s now dependent in large part on forces beyond his control. 10:08 – The 4th Industrial Revolution The speed of this 4th Industrial Revolution is what makes this period of time unique. We’re still catching up with the impacts of the 2nd and 3rd revolutions and we’re truly unprepared for the arrival of AI, biotech and robotics at scale. Our work and relationship with machines are being transformed and this is the topic of our latest Main St./K St. IntellingenSEER report. Let’s look at what we’re seeing in the data. The Zogby Report: Real and Unscripted (Episode 28) 07.17.2020
On today’s episode we’re talking about the war for the undecideds in the upcoming election and if our country wants to fight a civil war over the Civil War. Right now most polls are showing Biden way up in the polls, but could the same story play out that we saw in 2016? Also – in our latest IntelligenSEER report we talk about the status of the federal union and the various divisions we’re seeing in the country. Much of the report is grounded in history and we’ll look at whether we’re prepared to fight a civil war over the Civil War. Can we overcome this current wave of disunity? John Zogby Strategies · The Zogby Report | 07/17/20 – A Civil War Over The Civil War? SHOW NOTES: 01:30 – Election Updates Trump continues to have bad weeks and seems to be losing support among his own base. What are we seeing? In our latest poll we see the race tightening up to a 7 point lead but most importantly we see Trump and Biden tied when it comes to voters over the age of 65. This is a big swing compared to 2016 where Trump dominated. This tells us there are large numbers of people that are genuinely unsure about who they will support in the election. So you’ll see some of the numbers continue to see-saw between now and Election Day. Biden currently only has 77% support among African Americans but we anticipate this will increase if he nominates a woman of color as his running-mate. 16:00 – Are we going to fight another Civil War over the Civil War? We’ll dig into the culture wars and why 2020 is a pivotal year for the country.

The Zogby Report: Real and Unscripted (Episode 27) 07.10.2020
The election is officially less than 4 months away and we have some of the latest numbers and information about where the candidates stand. This week we’ll also dive into some surprising and possibly shocking data as it relates to what we’re calling History Wars in our next Main St./K St. IntelligenSEER Report. In this new report we asked voters about their perception of American history, the Black Lives Matter movement, statues of the confederacy and much more. Their responses show a strong correlation that is playing out in the streets and the voting booth. As always, thanks for listening and subscribing. You can read our Main St./K St. IntelligenSEER Report and we welcome all your thoughtful comments and feedback. Have a great week. John Zogby Strategies · The Zogby Report | 07/10/20 – History Wars SHOW NOTES: 01:00 Election Update: We still have Biden leading by 7 points with 9% still of voters still undecided, so the race has tightened a bit over the last month. He’s has the support of 90% of Democrats and Trump has support of 89% of Republicans- so the race still comes down to independents. And so we’ll see hundreds of millions of dollars to either suppress these voters or to try to sway them. We’ll get into why Biden’s lead seems to have shrunk recently and why we’re seeing as much as 14% of black voters support Trump. 15:14 History Wars In some of our latest polling we look at different views of American history (multiculturalist vs Anglo-Saxon), Black Lives Matter and Confederate Statues. The data will surprise you. 22:23 Do Americans think we are headed for Civil War? A surprising amount of those surveyed think we may be. 26:00 Has the time come for a new Constitutional Convention? 28:10 Which level of government do you trust the most? Local, State, National or None?

The Zogby Report: Real and Unscripted (Episode 26) 07.03.2020
On today’s episode it’s all about the current election. The latest polls have Biden leading in all battleground states and nationally by an average of 9%. What can change between now and Election Day? A lot, but it all depends on who gets the credit and who gets the blame… We’ll talk about the importance of public perception vs reality and how that can make a difference in upcoming elections. Finally – we’ll touch on a story that’s both old and new with the arrest of Ghislaine Maxwell. How might the Epstein case factor into the national election? We hope you all have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day weekend. Thanks as always for listening, subscribing and for your comments. John Zogby Strategies · The Zogby Report | 07/03/20 – Who Gets the Blame? Show Notes: Election Updates: Trump job approval ratings are very low for any incumbent facing re-election. National polls have Biden up by an average of 9 points and is leading in all battleground states. Trump is also losing ground with voters over 65, white women and white Catholics. 04:16 What can Trump do? It all comes down to gamble on his bid to re-open the economy and the public perception on economic recovery. Most important, who does the public blame for the handling of the economy and the pandemic. 16:46 The Little Black Book This week Ghislaine Maxwell, close confidant of Jeffrey Epstein was arrested. While this story is new, it has legs and has the potential to affect elections around the country depending on what additional names become entangled in this case. Might we be in for an October surprise?

We end the week with 42 million (approximately 20%) of Americans unemployed and the remarkable events of the past several days. The country continues to react to the murder of George Floyd and others, and protests against police brutality and institutional racism grow across the country. On today’s podcast, we’ll begin with politics and the President’s disgraceful, disturbing and dangerous behavior, and how it is beginning to hurt him with a key demographic of voters. As we look at the way the media has been covering recent events, we’ll discuss to what extent is the media coverage journalism or activism? Finally, will the largest part of this developing story continue to primarily focus on race or police brutality in general? A reminder – if you want to see what Americans are telling us about where we’re heading into the future, we’ve released the first of our new bi-weekly reports – The IntelligenSEER, in partnership with EMI Research Solutions.
