How to Stay Sane in the Insane World
41: It's an insane world because there're so many expectations for women. We've to look a certain way, dress a certain way, talk a certain way, behave a certain way and even think a certain way. Trying to achieve all these unrealistic goals is obviously driving us up the wall. We can choose to ditch the crazy expectations and come up with a more humane way of doing things. We don't have to drive ourselves crazy. Stress is the # 1 killer in our modern times.⠀ ⠀ So, ask yourself if the situation is really worth stressing over. Is it worth another white hair or wrinkle? No one is responsible for our happiness and mental health. No one is watching you and keeping tabs of what you've done and what you haven't done. As a mother in lockdown mode, my main focus isn't the laundry. My focus is mainly making sure my children are fed. As a result, my laundry room is still in a mess and may not do my laundry everyday. It's raining most of the time in Singapore anyway. It's ok if I don't mop the floor everyday, I no longer have toddlers crawling all over the house. I may wash the toilets at 8pm before I take my shower.⠀ ⠀ 🤷♀️Who's to say that I'm washing and cleaning at the wrong time?⠀ ⠀ I'm doing what's most convenient for me so that I don't go crazy. We cannot control what's going on in the outer world. But if and when we lose control over our inner worlds, of course, everything is going to be topsy turvy.⠀ ⠀ I truly believe happy mom = happy children = happy life. I don't enjoy myself when I have those crazy burst of emotions and I start yelling at my children because I'm feeling frustrated. So, I need to learn to pace myself.
