Winter Guide - Places to visit in the winter - Episode 3
Places to visit during the Winter on the Isle of Wight Breaking news!!!!! The Isle of Wight does not close during the winter! I know it seems hard to believe. The common image is of boarded up shops, barren deserted beaches and empty road littered with “back in the spring” signs. We can confirm that the Island’s residents do not hibernate or pack up and open a new Island off the coast of Spain in the winter. In this Episode you can hear about the Attractions that are open including: Havenstreet Steam Railway This is a must for all Island visitors, which does what is says on the tin but exceptionally well. Aside from the original buildings and historic exhibits you get the chance to ride a real original steam train. It is fun for all ages with parents reminiscing over a time now gone and children feeling like Harry Potter riding the Hogwarts Express. Havenstreet railway embraces the seasons and puts on fantastic events throughout the winter with special Santa rides, mince pies and hangover rides as well as beer and wine festivals. Amazon World Half inside, half outside this is an attraction that can be enjoyed through all weathers. Surprisingly this small wildlife encounter has a large number of animals with some unusual creatures set in some excellently themed areas. The start of the park is all indoors as you walk through different Amazon habitats, before venturing outside to the large enclosures found behind the main building. This is a place you could spend a full day at especially if you take part in the feeding and keeper talks. Osborne House One of the most visited historical buildings in the United Kingdom. Home of Queen Victoria this is full of charm and regal displays. This can be enjoyed during bad weather as the main exhibits are found within the main house however it is even better to visit when dry to appreciate the grounds, the private beach and the children’s play house. Throughout the winter period there are special events such as a Victorian Christmas (in November) and Christmas tours throughout December.
