T20 Podcast With Ayaz Memon: Mumbai Are Champions Once Again
On Episode 60 of The T20 Podcast, the last one of the season, Ayaz Memon and Mendra Dorjey take you through Mumbai’s 5 wicket win over Delhi in the tournament final on Tuesday night in Dubai. Mumbai were made to bowl first and Trent Boult started the party on the first ball of the match, getting Marcus Stoinis out, caught behind first ball. Ajinkya Rahane was also out in the third over and then Jayant Yadav got danger-man Shikhhar Dhawan in the fourth. Delhi’s score was 22/3 in 3.3 overs. Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant then collaborated for a 96-run stand and both made half centuries as Delhi managed to score 156/7. Mumbai’s chase saw Rohit top score with 68. And by the time he got out in the 17th over, the team was 137/3 and then it was just formalities as Mumbai won by 5 wickets. It's going to be Mumbai vs Delhi in this season’s finale. After a great magical run, Hyderabad have been knocked after a 17 run loss to Delhi.  On Episode 59 of The T20 Podcast, Ayaz Memon and Mendra Dorjey take you through Delhi’s 17-run win over Hyderabad that helped them enter their first in the tournament’s 13-year history. Delhi took a big risk, opening with Marcus Stoinis for the first time this season but the gamble paid off brilliantly as he and Shikhar Dhawan smashed 86 within 8 overs before Stoinis got out on 38. Shikhar Dhawan went onto make 78 and Delhi posted a commanding 189/3 in their 20 overs.  Hyderabad lost captain David Warner in the second over to Kagiso Radaba and then Stoinis struck twice in the fifth over, sending back Priyam Garg and Manish Pandey. Kane Williamson gave the team some hope, scoring 46 runs with Jason Holder and then adding 57 runs with Adbul Samad. But once he fell to Stoinis in the 17th over, it was just formalities as they lost 3 wickets in the 19th over as Kabada finished with 4/29 and Stoinis with 3/36. On Episode 58 of The T20 Podcast, Ayaz Memon and Mendra Dorjey take you through Hyderabad’s 6 wicket win over Bangalore that knocked Virat Kohli’s team out of the tournament. Eliminator 1 of the playoffs was the first knockout match and Bangalore were put into bat first by David Warner. Jason Holder once again proved just what a great replacement pick he’s been this season, sending back Virat Kohli and Devdyut Padikkal and reducing Bangalore to 15/2 in 3.3 overs. AB de Villiers once again top-scored for the team and his half century helped them post 131/7. Wriddhiman Saha sat out of the match due to an injury and Sreevats Goswami opened with David Warner. But the keeper was out to the 4th ball of the chase. Warner fell to a controversial third umpire decision and Pandey was out on 24 and Hyderabad were 55/3 in 8.3. But Kane Williamson and Jason Holder collaborated for a 65-run 5th wicket stand to get Hyderabad one win away from the final. On Episode 50 of The T20 Podcast, Ayaz Memon and Mendra Dorjey discuss Rajasthan’s 7 wicket win over Punjab that ended their five match winning steak. Steve Smith elected to bowl first after winning the toss and the decision looked like a great one when Archer picked up Mandeep Singh’s wicket on the last ball of the first over. Ben Stokes and Robin Uthappa started the chase brilliantly, scoring 48 runs in the first 4 overs. On Episode 49 of The T20 Podcast, Ayaz Memon and Mendra Dorjey talk about Chennai’s 6 wicket win over Kolkata that has severely dented their qualification chances. Instead, the result now means Mumbai have become the first team to qualify for the playoffs and Punjab now have their fate in their own hands. After winning the toss, Dhoni put Kolkata into bat first with some big changes in his team. Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir and Monu Singh were out and in came Shane Watson, Ngidi and Karn Singh. Kolkata opened with Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill again and they made 53 for the first wicket. Shubman got out on 26 in the 8th over. Rana continued on and helped score 66 off the last 5 overs with Dinesh Karthik, before getting out on 87. Kolkata posted 172/5.
 Chennai had young Ruturaj Gaikwad top-score once again with 72 and their chase was cruising, with him and Rayudu at the crease. 55 were needed off 38 balls when things started getting tough. The opening punt worked as Paddikal and Phillippe made 71 runs in 7.5 overs before Rahul Chahar broke the partnership. Paddikal top-scored with 74, Virat was out on 9 and AB on 15 as Bumrah took 3/14 and Bangalore made 164/6. Mumbai’s chase had one hero. Suryakumar Yadav. Warner got out on 66 and Saha smashed 12 fours and 2 sixes during his 87. The team posted 219/2. Delhi were 14/2 in 2 overs with Dhawan and Stoinis out. Rishabh Pant top scored with 36 and Rahane’s 26 was their second-highest score. Rashid Khan worked his magic again as he picked 3/7 in his 4 overs and Delhi lost by 88 runs. New Zealand speedster Trent Boult's four-wicket haul and an unbeaten 116-run opening stand between Ishan Kishan and Quinton de Kock steered the reigning champions to an easy win. Going by their poor form -- this was their first defeat by 10 wickets in the tournament’s history -- three-time champions Chennai are now virtually out, but they still have a mathematical chance of qualifying for the playoffs. Mahendra Singh Dhoni's team now has six points from 11 matches, out of which they have lost eight, and are now placed at the bottom of the eight-team table. With Friday's comprehensive win, three-time champions Mumbai have gone atop the table with 14 points.
