How To Make Your Stories More Relatable With The Universal Truth
We are going to be talking about something near and dear to my heart that I often work with my clients and it is a common question from my listeners. What if my experience is different from the clients you work with or if you have never had the same problem as your audience? There are many different situations and challenges. The grass is always greener on the other side until you learn a simple storytelling technique that will help you make your own grass green. There is a way to make your stories, whatever your challenge is, easier for your audience to relate to and engage with. It is called universalizing. In This Episode: There is a way to make your stories, whatever your challenge is easier for your audience to relate to and engage with. It is called universalizing. To universalize properly you have to have a clear picture of your audience and their problem and how they relate to it. Your story is not just about you. We have to understand how our audience will receive the story in order to tell it properly. Universalizing is one of the most important skills to cultivate as a storyteller. And so much more!!!

How D&D Makes You A Better Entrepreneur With Phil MacNevin
Today we have Phil MacNevin on the show talking about Dungeons and Dragons. Phil is a friend of mine that I have had in the entrepreneurial world for many years now. I have known him as a copywriter, brilliant operations manager in several companies, start-ups, and growing his own businesses and brands. Most recently Dungeons and Dragons miniatures which has landed him in an entirely new industry of tabletop gaming. So Phil has a lot of the same roots in entrepreneurship, coaching, leadership, and personal development and is now exploring the world of gaming. I find that the way that these two worlds interact is really fascinating and powerful and a much-needed tool for entrepreneurs these days. There are a lot of benefits that you can get through playing a role-playing game such as Dungeons & Dragons. That is what we are going to be talking about with Phil today. In This Episode: Taking that time to rest is actually what allows you to problem-solve. Learning more about play gives you another place to let go of a lot of that stress. It puts you in situations where you have to think outside the box. As an entrepreneur that allows us to expand our creative thinking and problem-solving capabilities. Role-playing gives you an opportunity to practice these skills in a safe environment that does not impact the real world. You are learning from these experiences but you are not in a real-world situation. It gives you a safe environment to test and experiment. And so much more!!! Magnetic Messaging Secrets To Grow Your Brand With Kristin Thomas
At the beginning of this year in February, I put on a summit called The High Ticket Wellness Summit. It had thousands of attendees, dozens of speakers, and a ton of incredible information on how to grow a business, get your message out there and attract more customers. Of the dozens of speakers, there were a few talks that really stood out, made an impact on me, and that I thought were exceptionally valuable. One of the people that I have a huge admiration for in the health and wellness space because of her own story and her own health journey as well as the brilliance in how she shows up in her work is Kristin Thomas. She was one of the first ones to be interviewed and it was for very good reason because she is absolutely incredible in how she does her messaging and she is an amazing teacher. She is getting new health coaches success all the time in her programs by just teaching them to communicate better on social media, emails, and wherever else they share their message. This talk is all about health and wellness entrepreneurs but even if you aren’t a health and wellness entrepreneur this information is still going to be able to have a big impact on your business especially if you are just getting started, going through a pivot, or if you have been at this a while and still don’t feel like you know what your message is. Show Notes: The best messaging is designed to attract the right people and repel the wrong people. Create your content with a hook. The hook is the very first line in your content that speaks to something they are going through. You have 3-5 seconds maximum to capture somebody’s attention online. Use down-to-earth language. The more you make somebody think or have to think when they are reading free content they are going to scroll on by. And so much more!!! The Most Valuable Pocket Change I've Ever Made
As I record this episode, I am in San Diego taking a little break from the big island to visit a few clients and many friends. I have been reflecting on my own entrepreneurial journey since I have been here. One of the colleagues I have that I collaborate a lot with let me know that I need to update my branding, particularly on this podcast. My business, who I serve, and the problem that I solve have shifted many times over the years. A page or some branding that I did back in 2018 is not as relevant as it is now. This is a natural thing for entrepreneurs to have as we grow, improve, and find there are parts of our brand that start to get a little bit outdated. It is really a good problem to have. At the same time, I have learned a lot, grown a lot, and evolved a lot as an entrepreneur and I really have come a long way and I really want to share how far I have come by telling you about some of the first entrepreneurial money I ever made. This twenty-seven cents was the most valuable pocket change I ever made. In This Episode: With these twenty-seven cents, I had proven to myself that it was possible for me to make a living with my own efforts. Entrepreneurs go through a lot of these cycles of trying out different things. You have got to show up every day, lean into that unknown, make something new that is stretching your limits, and continue to grow and learn. And so much more!!!

4 Types of Noble Bullshit That Are Distracting You
Today on the show we are going to be talking about ways that we deceive ourselves that feels like it is doing the right thing. Today we are going to be talking about a specific type of species of brand bullshit that I call noble bullshit. Noble bullshit is something that entrepreneurs will experience at every level of their journey. There are some very common and fairly visible ones at the earlier stages of entrepreneurship that many people experience and there are some more subtle ones that we will get into as well. Why do I say noble bullshit? A lot of these things feel like you are doing the right thing. It feels like you are doing a good thing so you feel noble when you are lost in this distraction. That is why they are so dangerous because it might feel like the right thing but it is hurting you in the long run. In This Episode: Education is a common trap and it feels noble because our whole lives we have been taught to value education. One of the most common distractions of this job is actually being lost in the low-value details and the business of your business. Whatever you're getting on social media is a reflection of what you are asking for in terms of your behavior and responding to. If you behave in a different way with the intention of getting clients, engaging with them in a meaningful way, and creating content that speaks to them you are going to get very different results. And so much more!!!

3 Lessons From 3 Years Of Podcasting
The week of recording this podcast episode is the three-year anniversary of my podcast, The Story Engine podcast. It has been an amazing journey creating it and I am reflecting on some of the gifts it has provided me over the last few years. I am excited to share them with you today. Many of my friends ask how I have benefited or made money from the podcast. I have monetized this podcast in many indirect ways. Today I am going to share some of the ways that this podcast has increased the value of my life and my work and why I am so grateful for this journey. In This Episode: My favorite thing about having a podcast is that it creates an opportunity to have a conversation with someone that I want to learn from. By taking time to examine the stories we tell ourselves, we can become better speakers when we speak to others. This podcast has been a treasure and rock for me in my life over the last few years. Storytelling To Increase Your Sales - Expert Coffee Chat With Kyle
Today on the show we have something a little different. Usually, on the show, I am the one who is interviewing the expert. I wanted to give you a slightly different perspective and see what it is like when an expert is interviewing me on one of my favorite topics about storytelling. Today I want to share parts one and two of an expert coffee chat I did with Jane Sagalovich. I have made a similar episode on this show but I think that being interviewed by someone that is an expert in products and storytelling and is asking unique questions gives a different spin. There are a lot of deep dives into different tactics and philosophies that I have that I really think you are going to enjoy. In This Episode: When it comes to storytelling most people have two problems: too many stories or too few stories. The biggest gap for entrepreneurs and experts today is not a tool, tactic, or training. It’s sharing their story and brilliance in a way that gets results. Simple frameworks can reduce the amount of static in your own mind so you can be more confident, authentic, and more present. And so much more!!!

On today’s episode, we have Jamie Wollrab. Jamie is an actor and a voice coach. Today we are really going to get into the definition of what he means by voice. It is not just singing or speaking, but it is mostly a way of being that is really interesting. How TJ Nelson Built A Solar Empire While Overcoming Lyme Disease
On today’s episode, we have TJ Nelson. We have known each other for about 6-7 years and we were both getting into the entrepreneurial scene at that time and just getting started out. Since we parted from our adventures, we have kept in touch and TJ has become one of the greatest salesmen out there He was the number one solar salesperson in the nation a few years back and has gone on to create his own company. It hasn’t been all smooth sailing the whole way. He has also been working with Lyme Disease, something that dramatically changed the course of his life and is still something he is working with. He faces challenges that most people would just rather lay in bed. Despite that, he has been able to lead a company, grow a team, and make a huge impact and is continuing to do so. On today’s episode, we are going to be exploring TJ’s story on how he was able to create such a successful solar empire while facing some very big challenges that most people would rather turn away from, give up, or ignore. This is a very special episode for me. In This Episode: If you are not willing to pay the price no matter what, you are not going to get there. If someone says they want something but they are not showing up or paying the price, then they never wanted it as much as they said they did. One of the biggest mistakes you can make as a speaker is to have a story that you don’t have healed or processed all the way. The challenge is the reward. Growth is happiness. When Social Media and Journalism Collide And Collaborate With Amanda Jaeger
On today’s episode, we have Amanda Jaeger. Amanda is a news anchor in Little Rock, Arkansas, and co-host of a TV show called Eat it Up. Today we are going to be talking with Amanda about journalism and social media. Amanda is a well-established news anchor and a TikTok influencer. The attention, clout, and momentum from her social media channels are benefitting the news channel and her professional career. Using social media and sharing your own voice in the world of journalism can be a little bit controversial. There are expectations that you should minimize your own voice and your own personality in order to allow the stories you are telling to come through more. One of my favorite things we discuss in this episode is actually how to choose the right controversy to really plant a flag in. Understanding a good controversy can really draw a lot of attention to you, get people really resonating with you and your message if it is in just the right spot. So we are going to talk about that and how she balances her career as a professional anchor, TV host, what she does on social media, and some of her strategies for how she has grown her audience on TikTok that you can start using in your business right away. In This Episode: If you keep trying and go all in, amazing things can happen. It is really understanding what people are coming to those platforms for. Craft the content based on that. Keep your TikTok videos short initially. Try different ideas and see what people are interested in. Find a way to make TikTok trends work for the message you are sharing. Recreate videos with your own spin. And so much more!!! Connect with Amanda Jaeger: Amanda on Facebook Amanda on TikTok Amanda on Instagram

That is what we are going to be exploring today. Mental static is one of the biggest sales killers out there when it comes to speaking and storytelling. Today I am going to share five mental static creating mistakes and what to do about them. The Evolution of Events, Experiences, and Transformation with Alex Moscow
On today’s episode, we have Alex Moscow. I am so excited to share this episode with you. I started working with Alex about a year ago, helping him with his presentations on how to sell more over social media, how to improve your sales over the phone, and how to run great events both in-person and virtually. His processes and systems were phenomenal and very inspiring to me. Within a few months, I was working with Alex not only on improving my sales and messaging but also on how I see my business, my role in my business, and what the most important things to be doing are. It has transformed my philosophy. One of the great things we get to hear in this episode and we get to see how it has evolved from attending and being inspired by music festivals when he was younger to planning, hosting, and coordinating tons. We get to hear his philosophy on what makes a great coach and what kinds of questions do great coaches ask. In This Episode: It is not a lack of information. It is a lack of application of the information to create the transformation. Events are the most powerful way to give someone an experience to actually transform. We are the most important asset to our lives, family, clients, and community. It is vulnerable to own that. If we are not at our best we are not as valuable to everybody else. It is a never-ending quest to become the best version of who we are next because it never ends. Enjoy the journey along the way. And so much more!!! Can Authenticity Be Manipulative?
Today we are going to be talking about a very interesting and a little bit contradictory topic. Can Authenticity Be Manipulative? If there is one story that I hear a lot of from people that I work with or people that are considering working with me, it’s that the story of why they can’t share a certain story. We are going to talk about how to turn that around and make sure that we are using our authenticity in ways that are aligned with us and are not manipulative. I am sharing three steps today to make sure your authenticity is powerful and is aligned with the best version of yourself. In This Episode: Step one is healing your story before you share it. The first rule in being vulnerable in a healing and powerful way is to make sure you have done your own work on the stories that you are sharing. Step two is to know the purpose of the story you are telling. If you don’t know where you are going with your story, any story is going to sound like a good one. Step three is to connect to a higher vision for your business. When we start telling stories to grow our business, these roadblocks are going to inevitably arise. And so much more!!!

4 Lessons Learned From My 32nd Year
I have another solo episode for you today. I have been loving creating these solo episodes and there is definitely a call for more of them. I have been doing this podcast for three years now and I can hardly believe that. There have been a ton of interviews, heard from a ton of experts, and it has just been fun creating my own stuff and sharing my own voice and perspective. Many of these things are emerging and growing for me and it is really exciting to be able to share this process I am going through with you. Last weekend before recording this it was my birthday. I also rented a new place on the big island of Hawaii and committed to staying here another six months. I took a road trip, attended an event for entrepreneurs and leaders, and reflected on how incredible of a journey it has been. Looking back on this year of 32, I have four big lessons. In This Episode: The words you choose matter. Words are powerful. The words that we choose to speak and share in conversation, writing, and especially in our heads can impact our physiology, our state of mind, and the possibilities that we see in front of us. Life is so short and it is worth living it in a way that you are proud of. Sometimes that means sacrificing comfort, uncertainty, and taking a risk. It is worth exploring and discovering who you really are and bringing that into all areas of your life. Anything is possible with the right focus and the right words and knowing the right strategy. 4 Questions for the Perfect Story
Today we are going to talk about four questions to help you come up with the perfect story. I present and speak on storytelling a lot. The most common question I get is: How do I choose the right story? Tough question. It can be surprisingly challenging to conjure the right story at the right moment. A lot of us expect the stories to show up perfectly whether or not we have practiced them. Some of us worry that sharing our vulnerability may harm our authority and credibility rather than enhance it so we avoid telling stories. No matter what the hold-up is for telling your story, at the root is usually a misunderstanding of how or when to share a story. Today I am going to walk you through four simple questions you can ask to help inspire the stories you need in your work. In This Episode: You are the sum of the five people you spend the most time with. Connect and network with people who can see your vision, what you are doing, and really appreciate it, encourage it, and speak light into what you are doing. Once we have our problem question answered the closer we can get to describing that problem in their language and this will cause your audience to lean in when listening to your stories and they will resonate when we share. With the moments from our own lives, we can now create a story that resonates with that specific moment with our ideal customer and use the language that they use to describe it to tell our story. And so much more!!!

4 Counter-Intuitive Ways to Differentiate Your Business
Today we are going to be talking about differentiating your business. We are specifically going to focus on four counter-intuitive ways to differentiate your business. Differentiation is something that is repeated business advice and most people understand why it is so valuable. It is easy to recognize the value of being different and it is easy to know it when you see it, but it can be hard for us to understand or know where we can apply that in our own lives and our own business. Changing up your product and service and focusing on higher quality or customer service are all very good things to do, but they can be challenging. In this episode, I want to explore some of the ways that most people don’t differentiate their business. There are some big ways you can do this and get big results very quickly. In This Episode: Attaching your business to a bigger purpose or bigger vision can serve as a differentiator. You want to stand for something more. Your audience can also resonate with aspects of your personality or passions. How you choose to communicate with your audience can make a big difference in how your stand out. And so much more!!!
