Looking Back to Help Plan Future Goals
In this week’s episode, the last of 2020, we talk about looking back on what you did (or didn’t) accomplish for the year to help you set your goals for the upcoming year. In this episode: You don’t have to wait for an arbitrary date to implement new goals. Nothing inherently magical happens on January 1. Think about what you don’t want to do anymore just as much as what you do want to do. Consider short-term goals. Figure out your organizational system. We highly recommend planners. Quick Update: Podcast Schedule Change
Nothing much going on in this episode other than a small podcast schedule change for the rest of 2020. Hopefully, by the December episode, we’ll be able to tell you what the podcast will look like in 2021, but we’re still figuring that out. Our plan is to take this extra time to write more blog content, so we’re definitely NOT going anywhere. Managing Multiple Social Media Accounts
We’ve been asked a few times, “How do I handle multiple Twitter accounts?” And our response is, “We wish we knew!” That’s because, we feel like we struggle with the balance of personal social media, professional social media, and social media management on behalf of clients. So yes, if you find it difficult to do, you’re definitely not alone. That being said, we have come up with strategies, tools, and methods to do the best we can. So let’s talk about it. In this episode, we mention Twitter and Instagram primarily, but we think it holds true for any social media platform you’re on. Finding the balance of posting enough and having the right voice is tough. In this episode: Why you might need to manage multiple accounts How to decide on a different voice for each How to stay within a brand’s voice Tools to use Mistakes we made and make Links from the episode: Tweeten Buffer Co-Schedule Sociality The Smutlancers Community on Patreon Follow The Smutlancer on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook Follow Eroticon on Twitter and Instagram KaylaLords.com Molly’s Daily Kiss Subscribe to the show: Apple Podcasts Google Play Spotify Stitcher   The post Managing Multiple Social Media Accounts appeared first on The Smutlancers.

Facing a Few Fears and Realities
I honestly didn’t (and still don’t) know what to call this week’s episode. Instead of the topic I planned, I took you into my thought process, a few fears, a couple of realization, and no clear resolution. So….life, basically. When forced to face a smutlancing fear, I figured a few things out. Not that I know quite what to do with that information. Revealing Our Fever Dream: Obscene Ideas
This may be the most exciting set of show notes I’ve ever had the chance to write. In this episode, there’s squeeing, too, so be warned. We’re finally ready to reveal our fever dream to the world and share our newest project with everyone: Obscene Ideas. Not only are we telling you what it is, but we’re talking about how we made it happen — the people we worked with, the resources we used, and the way we approached the entire project. Also, what we talk about in this episode is just the beginning. We have many more plans in the works — both for Obscene Ideas and in general. Stay tuned! In this episode: Our new project is an attempt to answer one question we get all the time and one complaint we hear from sex writers all the time: What do I do when I don’t have any ideas or inspiration? We’ve put together our first digital product, and you can pre-order it through October 11, 2020! The website is obsceneideas.com. On Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, you can follow us at obscene ideas (all one word).  Subscribe to the newsletter to follow our blog where we’ll share blogging and writing tips and tricks to help you improve your technical skills. We want to build a community around this project so people who purchase the workbook and join in online will be able to link their work in a blog-meme-style way. The pre-sale price is $10. Starting October 12, the price goes up to $15. To make this project a reality, we relied heavily on people we trust: Violet Fawkes for graphics Michael Knight for web development Our beta readers for their invaluable feedback The Smutlancers community for always asking such good questions and supporting us even when we kept the plan a secret. Dealing With That Thing You Really Don’t Want to Do
We’ve talked about procrastination in the past, and I’ve mentioned that when you feel it, there’s a reason for it. Sometimes it’s because you have to do a thing you don’t want to do — but you have to do it anyway. Or maybe you don’t. That’s what I’m talking about in this week’s podcast episode! In this episode: I love all desire to do work I wanted to do. My procrastination was at level 100. Add in some not-so-nice self-talk and almost taking time off (time I couldn’t afford to take off). There was a thing I really didn’t want to do, but it was something only I could do. Dread and fear lead to a block of my creativity, motivation, and productivity. There are only two options: do it or don’t. How do you know which to choose? September 2020 Mailbag: Smutlancers Community Q&A Edition
Continuing with our theme of all-Smutlancers, all-the-time (sort of) since the rebrand, we decided to use this month’s mailbag episode to answer questions asked in the Smutlancers community. In a relatively short amount of time, many questions were asked. For community members, they get an answer as soon as someone can reply — even if it’s not from Molly or myself.  For anyone curious about how helpful the Smutlancers community can be, here’s a peek into the “ask anything” channel in our Slack group. In this episode: Using blog meme badges Running giveaways Blocking an IP address Keeping cloned sites Advice on writing a bio Updating themes Shipping items without a PO box Using a name vs site name Gaining Twitter followers What to write in a newsletter Writing through depression Newsletter pop-ups Re-sizing images already uploaded on your blog Best time to send professional emails Getting the courage to pitch a major publication Links from the episode: The Smutlancers Community on Patreon Follow The Smutlancer on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook Follow Eroticon on Twitter and Instagram KaylaLords.com Molly’s Daily Kiss Subscribe to the show: Apple Podcasts Google Play Spotify Stitcher The post September 2020 Mailbag: Smutlancers Community Q&A Edition appeared first on The Smutlancers.

Everything is a Process
We almost never have an idea on Monday and reveal a fully fleshed out reality by Friday. It takes time and patience. Along the way, we need to recognize progress and successes as they occur, even if they don't match the finished picture we have in our heads. Finding the Balance When You Can’t Keep Up
Keep up with what? It could be anything, but specific to our conversation, we refer to your (and our) to-do list, goals, work promised to clients, etc. The topic comes from a question Quinn Rhodes (ze/hir) asked us about maintaining a work-life balance when chronic conditions (like mental health) get in the way -- without working seven days a week and burning yourself out (or making yourself worse). Collaborating In the Way That Works for You
This week's episode is a mash-up of two ideas I thought I had strong opinions about: collaboration and hiring people to do the tasks you can't or don't want to do. As in past episodes, this is a look at my current experience and thinking on the topic, as well as (hopefully) a few useful tips. Smutlancers Q&A: July 2020 Mailbag
Every month we answer questions from Smutlancers on a variety of topics. This month, the questions went a bit deeper from navigating how to speak about (and stand-up for) more inclusivity in the sex blogging community to how to support causes that matter to you. (Also, it's episode 100 but we had no idea when we recorded this!) The post Smutlancers Q&A: July 2020 Mailbag appeared first on The Smutlancers.

Turning Your Fever Dreams Into Something Real
Neither Molly nor myself are immune to big dreams. In fact, we thrive on them. But sometimes those big dreams are more like fever dreams and have no basis in reality. In this week's episode, we talk about a recent(ish) fever dream from late 2019 that we're only just now turning into something real. More importantly, we're sharing lessons we've learned and things we're doing differently. The post Turning Your Fever Dreams Into Something Real appeared first on The Smutlancers.
