B119: How to deal with disappointment
Let’s talk about how to deal with disappointment, so you can bounce back faster. This is a continuation from last week’s episode where I talked about how to hold things loosely. And my goodness, that one hit a chord for many of you listening… thank you so much for reaching out and letting me know!  So yeah, last week, I talked about how to keep your jitters and your emotions in check when you’re in the in-between… you know, that space in time where you’ve made an offer or invitation to another party and you’re waiting for their response back.  For example: you’ve presented a proposal to a prospective client… or you’ve put your best foot forward while interviewing for a dream job… or maybe you’re dating and you’ve just revealed another vulnerable piece of your heart to someone. It’s that split second moment where you’re nervously waiting to see or hear their response.  Either they volley back with a “yes please” or a “thank you, but no thank you”… or worse, you hear NOTHING at all.  Which lets be real… that’s an answer all onto itself, right? But let’s talk about the NO. Said more succinctly, you wanted something. You don’t get it. There’s a moment of yuck… so, how do you recover? I’ve got some ideas. Here are 3 ways to deal with the disappointment you might be feeling and help you to figure out a way to bounce back faster. You can do this, I believe in you. It’s time to SIMPLIFY. B118: How to hold things loosely
Today, I want to talk about how to hold things loosely. As in, when you’re anticipating something BIG to happen in your life but you don’t have total control on making it a reality… How do you sit in the space in between? And worse, when this big thing requires someone else to make a decision and do the thing… how do you sit with the fact that you cannot control the timeline, the outcome, or anything else for that matter, beyond your own bubble?   As you may know, our focus on the podcast this entire month is all about alignment and integration… how to help your body, your mind, AND your spirit to work in flow with one another and stay aligned no matter what you face today. To be in cohesion as a whole, thriving person and integrate what you’re learning along the way, to avoid making the same mistakes over and over again. Let’s break that down a bit further… simplify it. In case you too want to try to hold things a little more loosely today as well. Here are 3 simple things to remember when holding things loosely that will really help you to shift the energy. You can do this, I believe in you. It’s time to SIMPLIFY. B117: How to get into alignment mind body spirit (guided visualization)
Time for a guided visualization exercise: this will help you get into alignment mind, body, and spirit. That will be our focus and intention for the entire month ahead… what does it mean when all parts of our whole self come together, find peace, and work in cohesion? I want to dive deep and unpack that. My Intuition tells me that a lot of this work will require trust and grace… and the belief that we have the ability to change, heal, and shift our identity towards something more rooted and healthy. That’s what alignment and integration means to me. Holding things loosely but also realizing that evolution is a constant, subtle shift over time. A dance, really.  So to kickoff the month, today is another guided visualization episode, which we’ve decided to release on the first Tuesday of every month this season. How does it work? Simple! Let my voice be a guide for you as you focus inward to help you tap into your inner wisdom and Intuition for answers. 232: How to say NO to hustle culture - with Jamie Varon (PART TWO)
Earlier this week, we shared part one of this conversation, all about how to say NO to hustle culture. And this conversation has really stuck in the forefront of my mind this entire week. So many aspects of how we choose to live our lives, who we spend time with and who we invest in. What things we bring into our lives and what things we say, “thank you but no thank you.” All of this is wrapped up in this particular topic. Now, if you haven’t heard part one, go back and listen to that one first. But if you’re ready to continue on, let’s pick back up here with my conversation with author Jamie Varon as she simplifies how to say NO to hustle culture.  It’s time to simplify… Here’s how.  My special guest today is author Jamie Varon and she’s simplifying how to say NO to hustle culture. We tackle and simplify all aspects of it, including: How she defines what ‘hustle culture’ is/isn’t and what the consequences and warning signs are that you might be caught up in this trap What it means to be “radically content” - in a real, authentic and lasting way When society tells us we are “not enough” - we remain stuck… how we can squash this old story and begin to unlearn what we’ve been taught us over time Why it’s potentially dangerous to be in the constant pursuit of our “best” lives and ideas on what’s better …and ultimately, she shows us how to reduce the negative self-talk that keeps you dissatisfied and feeling unworthy of happiness and deep contentment. This conversation is the last in our series focusing on discernment and helping you ultimately to MAKE A CHOICE. I believe it’s the 1000 daily choices that make up my lifetime.  When I choose wisely, my little light inside shines brighter and brighter.  And equally, when I get overwhelmed or exhausted, have a slip or hit the big red F-it button in the sky, well… that’s a choice too. Either way, I hope you know that you’re never too far gone. When you are rooted down in the present, surround yourself with healthy people and life-giving communities, all it sometimes takes is the courage to take the very next step. You can do it, I believe in you… it’s time to simplify! Q: Are you ready to say NO to hustle culture? If yes, this one is for you. 231: How to say NO to hustle culture - with Jamie Varon (PART ONE)
It’s time to decide… is it time to (finally) say NO to hustle culture running and slowing ruining your entire life? I know I am… but you might not even be aware of the insidious undertone that is happening around us and inside us on the daily, that is totally driving the bus. It reinforces the lie of “not enough” and “you’re doing it wrong” because like any virus, it needs a host to feed on. And if that’s you I dare say, I’m willing to bet that it’s not only affecting your physical health, but your relationships, your sense of belonging, and your mental well-being. Let’s unpack all of that so we together can make a change. My special guest today is author Jamie Varon and she’s simplifying how to say NO to hustle culture. She believes you are totally capable of building a satisfied, contented, and happy life for yourself that gently opts out of the societal “shoulds.” There is an infinite wisdom inside you that knows what will make you your most vibrant self and she just wants to help you unlock your truth. Here’s how.  My special guest today is author Jamie Varon and she’s simplifying how to say NO to hustle culture. 230: How to stop yo-yo dieting - with Jovanka Ciares (PART TWO)
Earlier this week, we shared part one of this conversation, all about how to stop yo-yo-dieting… and boy howdy, this is certainly a HOT topic. You see, modern culture doesn’t want you to realize that everything you need to get off this crazy train is well within your grasp right now. It instead wants you to keep consuming, keep falling off the wagon, keep shaming yourself to only repeat the cycle over and over and over again. Yo-yo dieting is a trap… and you know this, you ALWAYS regain the weight back (if not more). Enough. Time to choose something different. Now, if you haven’t heard part one, go back and listen to that one first. But if you’re ready to continue on, let’s pick back up here with my conversation with author and nutrition educator Jovanka Ciares as she simplifies how to stop yo-yo dieting. All of this will help you make better choices in life. It’s time to simplify… Here’s how.  My special guest today is author + nutrition educator Jovanka Ciares and she’s simplifying how to stop yo-yo dieting. We tackle and simplify all aspects of it, including: How she defines what “wellness” is, especially in this day and age when fast food and instant gratification is slowly killing us all Have you noticed? Why people of color are rarely represented in the billion-dollar industry of health and wellness and how to make a positive change here What are some practical ways we can incorporate more plant-based whole foods into our meals, especially when we’re limited on time Why herbs are an important, secret weapon to healing and to a healthy lifestyle - as part of what she calls the Reclaiming Wellness Method …and ultimately, when people are ready to stop yo-yo dieting, she talks about the role that music and community plays in all of this. Are you ready to stop yo-yo dieting once and for all? Lord knows, it doesn’t work but we get woo-ed by the bright, shiny object syndrome of magic pills and “5 steps to the body you desire” nonsense that’s shoved down our throats especially in these months leading up to summer. Enough. Let’s make a choice to try something different. My special guest today is author Jovanka Ciares and she’s simplifying how to stop yo-yo dieting and instead, reclaim your wellness. She shares age-old practices from around the world that help us all lead a healthy, happy and beautiful life, regardless of our age, gender, ethnicity, income or social status. So, if you’re tired of bouncing from one doctor’s office to the next and packing on more prescription pills and pounds around the midsection than ever before… Jovanka shares a better way to create your own wellness journey that works specifically for you and your body. 226: How to redefine your identity as a new mother - with Nicole Lawrence (PART TWO)
Earlier this week, we shared part one of this conversation, all about how to redefine your identity as a new mother. And wow, I love hearing your stories and what’s working for you in this season of your life. Thank you for connecting with me via DM on Instagram @thesimplifiers and sharing it all with me. I believe this is the true secret to life… remembering how we are in community with each other, like a village, sharing stories, fumbles and tips/tricks learned along the way. We care for each other (like a village) and for our children, as a collective. YES, more of this! Now, if you haven’t heard part one, go back and listen to that one first. But if you’re ready to continue on, let’s pick back up here with my conversation with podcaster Nicole Lawrence as she simplifies how to redefine your identity as a new mother.  It’s time to simplify… Here’s how. My special guest today is Nicole Lawrence and she’s simplifying how to redefine your identity as a new mother. We tackle and simplify all aspects of it, including: Identity seems like such an integral part of being human and there are so many stories in our lives… how do we distinguish what is true - and what isn’t serving us any longer?  Nicole shares a glimpse into her birth story with Rhodes - what she learned about herself before, during the birth, and afterwards that could help other expecting parents and new mothers How she meets BIG transitions in life with grace What childbirth taught her about  “the rules you set for yourself in life” and your identity …and ultimately, it seems like we’re in an interesting time in history where gender roles and responsibilities in work and life are shifting - how does this play into redefining your identity? If you’re a new parent, I really hope this vulnerable conversation with Nicole helps you remember that you are not alone.  The first couple of years with a new baby can be SUPER tricky as you not only adjust to this new way of living, but also your child learns the rhythms of life outside the womb. Go slow, get outside for some vitamin D (with a little sunscreen) and remember that you’re doing a fantastic job, no matter how messy it may seem, at times. 225: How to redefine your identity as a new mother - with Nicole Lawrence (PART ONE)
How do you redefine your identity as a new mother? I’m stating the obvious when I say this, but when you become a new mother (or parent), everything changes. I know, my children are now 11 and 13 years old and I remember those early years of juggling a thriving business, a full team on payroll, and also grappling with redefining my identity as a new mother. This stuff ain’t easy and it certainly isn’t as pretty as everyone makes it out to be in their ultra-filtered lives on Instagram. So, where can you find the truth in a sea of big, massive change? My special guest today is podcaster Nicole Lawrence and she’s simplifying how to redefine your identity as a new mother. If you’ve brought a new baby into your home in the last 12 months, you know that the whole world turned upside down in one way or another. And if you did it during a pandemic, friend… you deserve a trophy! Some days (ney, hours) are brilliant… and the next, you’re trying to wipe off baby spit-up that’s caked in your hair and desperately trying to remember the last time you had an adult conversation with someone. (Wait, was it last week? The week before?) And how in the world do I sneak a shower in as well? Girl, I feel ya. Nicole shares some deep insight from the first year of her own very messy journey with her baby Rhodes and how she is re-emerging with a new identity and a new spirit as an ever-evolving woman. Here’s how. B115: 5 things I learned at SXSW 2022
I’m so thrilled to share with you my top 5 things that I learned at SXSW 2022!  Man, it was such a brilliant conference and I’m so pleased that I was invited to speak at this event. My workshop called, “Why Your Grandma’s Podcast is Better Than Yours” was a total success with a full house and many people stayed 20 minutes over the end time, hungry for more. As a public speaker and workshop facilitator, for me it was EVERYTHING.  As Laura Lorek of the Silicon Hills News said online, “being in a pandemic for over two years and then being at SXSW for 10 days - I feel like I went from hiding in a cave to performing live on stage at the Grand Ole Opry!” Yup, I felt that, 100%. We’ve all been tucked away in our little pockets and cocoons for so, so long and it just felt brilliant to re-emerge once again. Here are my top 5 things I learned at SXSW 2022:         1) Re-emergence is happening right now - take the leap.        2) Smaller is better - more chances to go deeper.       3) Space tourism and holograms are a real thing and more accessible than you think.       4) Simplifying NFTs with a brick analogy       5) Let’s talk about belonging and return-to-work initiatives One final whisper And just one final whisper, just from me to you, dear friend… come in closer. I hope this episode inspired you to get back out there and attend one or two IRL conferences in the year ahead. And I realize that this can be super scary and daunting. I actually practiced “people-ing” in the weeks leading up to having to people at SXSW.  And of course, I’m being safe, wearing masks, taking precautions and I’m triple-vaxxed so my 5G is through the roof. Because, science. So if you’re the same as me, I just want to whisper in your ear a little love and encouragement…  Friend, it’s time to re-emerge.  It’s time to come back out into the world. Make Bold Asks for what you want, what you need… and what you desire. It’s time to get back IRL with others, and share ideas, get inspired, and have a bit of fun together to replenish your love tank. It’s time. You’re ready. And the world is ready to experience your brilliance once again. You can do this, I believe in you. It’s time to SIMPLIFY. 224: How to buy better, consume less - with Sian Conway-Wood (PART TWO)
Earlier this week, we shared part one of this conversation, all about how to buy better and consume less. And I really hope it sparked some new ideas for you so far. I realize that sometimes all of this stuff can feel a bit overwhelming (same for me, too), like, “what impact could I really make in the grand scheme of things?” Well actually, Sian shows us… quite a bit. Now, if you haven’t heard part one, go back and listen to that one first. But if you’re ready to continue on, let’s pick back up here with my conversation with author Sian Conway-Wood as she simplifies how to buy better and consume less. It’s time to simplify… Here’s how.  My special guest today is Sian Conway-Wood and she’s simplifying how to buy better + consume less. We tackle and simplify all aspects of it, including: In a world so eager to sell us magic pills and quick solutions to all of our “problems”, Sian shares why we should even consider buying better and consuming less right now - What impact one person can actually make on this global dilemma What she means mean by “greenwashing” and how to spot it when you shop next How to assess your shopping habits and start making simple, positive changes to buy better and consume less Where to find resources to borrow and share items in your local community …and ultimately, why she believes it’s toxic to shop in order to feel confident, sexy, or soothed. (don’t worry, we all do it) - What's a better solution?  All this month, we’ve been focused on the topic of re-emergence. And I dare say this conversation applies as well. Who we are is determined by how we live our life. What we buy, consume, and the 1000 daily choices we must make, big or small.  I’m starting to make better choices.  Do I really need those individually plastic-wrapped potatoes or could I buy them in a 5lb bundle with less packaging? Do I really need a $5 shirt or could I pause and re-consider how much the factory workers were paid on a t-shirt so severely discounted like that? Do I really need to own every power tool under the sun?  I hope today’s conversation with Sian has you asking these questions as well. Q: Are you ready to learn how to buy better + consume less? 223: How to buy better, consume less - with Sian Conway-Wood (PART ONE)
Saving the world feels a bit daunting, but what if we could simply buy better and consume less as our way of doing our part? Would it make a difference? Could we move the needle on global warming, thwarting fast fashion, and making better choices on the stuff we buy, eat, and consume as a whole. Short answer: yes. My special guest today is author Sian Conway-Wood and she’s simplifying how to buy better and consume less. These last couple of years had all of us reflecting on various aspects of our lives and for the first time, many of us started to realize how fragile global supply chains can be to keep the world running smoothly. But what if there was a better way to make a positive impact on the environment instead of going for the lowest price item or buying the things that can get delivered to us the quickest? Sian shows us the way and it’s simpler than you think. Here’s how. If yes, this one is for you. It’s time to #DoTheThing  ---- Show notes available with all LINKS mentioned here:https://thesimplifiers.com/podcast/sian-conway-wood-buy-better-consume-less-part-one

222: How to reawaken your sexy side - with Jolie Dawn (PART TWO)
Earlier this week, we shared part one of this conversation, all about how to reawaken your sexy side. Whooo boy, this one is taking off like wildfire! I know this would be a hot topic and I’m so pleased to share this conversation with you, so we can collectively dust off the cobwebs and re-emerge together. Now, if you haven’t heard part one, go back and listen to that one first. But if you’re ready to continue on, let’s pick back up here with my conversation with author Jolie Dawn as she simplifies how to reawaken your sexy side. Here’s how.  My special guest today is Jolie Dawn and she’s simplifying how to reawaken your sexy side. We tackle and simplify all aspects of it, including: How she defines “sexuality” vs. “sexiness” - what each are and and more importantly, what modern culture tries to sell and tell you they are, that simply isn’t true Jolie shares the secrets to becoming “a Creatrix in your own life” - what that means and how to do it What the 4 things you must consider the next time you get triggered that’ll help you deflect and recover fast How to live a prosperous life, instead of just enduring and surviving, which many of us have done these last few years in a pandemic …and ultimately, we talked about sex-magic… how to unlock this powerful energy in how we show up in our work and lives. All this month, we’ve been focused on re-emergence. It’s spring, the weather is changing, and the world is starting to reopen again as restrictions begin to ease. There’s a certain new energy in the air. Can you feel it?  If you haven’t listened to this month’s guided visualization exercise yet, I highly recommend cueing it up and listening to it after this episode, especially if you’re feeling stuck and want to integrate some of this deep wisdom into your body.
