TSA Episode 12: Ginger Makes
Happy sunny (and ridiculously HOT) Sunday, friends! I hope the weather is as nice in your part of the world. I love the sun and I normally try to spend as much time as I can in it but I'm taking advantage of what has been very rare these past few months - some free time!! - to put up a very long overdue episode that we recorded last fall. (Sonja, I'm so very sorry!) On the topic of our absence over the past 7 months, I just have to tell you that it's been crazy in my world with a lot of competing priorities (and responsibilities) that has required most of my attention. This of course hasn't left much time to focus on the podcast. I have been feeling so guilty about my unpublished episodes that I haven't even been able to bring myself to record any new episodes until my schedule clears up again for fear I won't get them posted in a respectful and timely manner. But alas, there is light at the end of the tunnel and after a very difficult hiatus, we'll be back in the game in no time! In the mean time, I hope our previously recorded episodes keep you going! So let's talk about Sonja! I'm sure you all agree how much fun it is reading about her sewing and knitting adventures. And about Doug & Peggy! (If you don't know who Doug & Peggy are, go to Sonya's blog (like right now) and read about them.) This interview with Sonja was definitely a highlight for me and after listening to it again, I realize just how much joy Sonja adds to sewing for me. I hope you enjoy listening to her as much as I enjoyed talking to her! Check out her 10 X 30: Please note, this episode was recorded last fall (2014) and I'm sure the flannel Archer Sonja refers to in her 10 X 30 has long since been finished & blogged about. Thanks so much for listening - enjoy the podcast! xoxo Music is from freemusicarchive.org. Song is Mi Mundo by Dadalu.

TSA Episode 11: Tilly & the Buttons
Hey everyone - we're back! Yes, we took a bit of a hiatus but we are back and SOOOOooooo happy to be here again! I won't bore you with details. :) I must admit, life's been a little hectic and I've not had much time for sewing, which has left me feeling really left out of all the new pattern releases. Booooo! Literally, one of the few things that has kept me sane during a hectic few months is all of the sewing blogs I faithfully read. I follow literally hundreds of blogs so thankfully I've been able to keep up with what's been going on in the world of sewing, however, as previously mentioned, not so much with sewing all the fun new patterns. Of course, I'm dying (thankfully not literally) to get going on a spring/summer wardrobe (should I have started sewing that already???) and I've got some exciting makes just waiting to be made. (Confession #1: I never did finish sewing all the makes from my fall/winter list.) My spring makes are cut out sitting there waiting to be made and I am longing for a day of me-sewing. Shorts, skirts and tops - those are my spring/summer wardrobe staples this year! Okay, enough about me, let's get to Tilly! I'm so excited to share this episode with all of you! Tilly and I spoke last November but life took it's dark & twisty little turn and I was not able to post. (Confession # 2: I have a few more episodes I recorded that I didn't have the chance to post. I guess that officially makes April a catch-up month!) Tilly is such a go-getter and I love how down-to-earth she is. Have a read through her 10X30: As you'll hear in this episode, Tilly sent me a copy of her book and it really is a beautiful book. So if you still haven't gotten a copy of it, I highly recommend it. (Confession # 3: You'll probably never hear me tell someone s/he shouldn't buy a sewing book. #sewingaddict) And just before I leave you to it, I would like to thank all of our guests that spent time with me last fall whose episodes I did not post. I'm am so grateful you spent the time with me and I'm so excited to post them over the coming weeks. And to all of our listeners, thank you for all of your support, and for all of the kind emails. THANK YOU!!! I'm really so grateful and I have missed you all! Thanks so much for listening - enjoy the podcast! xoxo Music is from freemusicarchive.org. Song is Mi Mundo by Dadalu.

TSA Episode 10: Blackbird Fabrics
Hello, friends! It's a beautiful day today with lots of sunshine and today we're celebrating our oldest daughter's 20th (gulp) birthday so I'm just popping in to publish our next episode! :) I'm really excited about my guest today and I so happy to be able to refer to her as my friend! Many of you know Caroline from her weekly contributions over at the Sewaholic blog where she has written about many of her makes and hosted several sew-alongs. Not only is she talented when it comes to sewing, she's very knowledgeable when it comes to fabric and sewing in general. Which is why it seemed so perfectly natural that she would open her own on-line fabric store, Blackbird Fabrics! Caroline is one of my go-to gals when I'm looking for fabric suggestions or advice so I'm excited more people will have access to her knowledge! Fine, I'll admit I'm also excited we have another online fabric source - there's no such thing as too many fabric stores, amiright?! Caroline ships Internationally but it's so nice for those of us living in Canada to have an on-line fabric resource that focuses on garment fabrics! Have a browse through Caroline's 10x30: And guess what else?! It's Caroline's birthday month and she's having a sale to celebrate! From Nov 21-24 (midnight), she's offering 20% of everything in her store - just enter the code birthdaysale (all one word) at checkout. If you've been eyeing up some of her fabric or even some of the dressmaking supplies, this is definitely a great time to buy it! Thanks so much for listening - enjoy the podcast! xoxo Music is from freemusicarchive.org. Song is Mi Mundo by Dadalu.

TSA Episode 9: Oonaballoona
Wow, I think that was the best Wednesday I've had in a very long time! Thank you all for the kind words of encouragement and support. I am so, so very grateful. :) I'm really excited about this new adventure, even though I'm battling lots of butterflies over taking the leap! But mostly I feel happy. And excited! (And I'm not going to lie, a little relieved that I've been getting such a positive response!) I love hanging out in the studio and I can't wait until it's full of people who love to sew! Thanks for allowing me a moment to gush with gratitude. :) Now, as promised, here is the next episode of the podcast! I've been following bright, fun, joyful and inspirational Oonaballoona for quite some time so I was very determined to have her on the show. Like so determined that I would have flown to New York and interviewed her there if that's the only way she'd have agreed to coming on the show. I love the energy that comes through her makes, her blog, her Instagram photos and yes, even her tweets. There are days when I actually intentionally seek out her blog to get a dose of some feel-good energy. 'Cuz you know, I don't always have the time to run out to Starbucks or Everything Wine. I kid!! I usually have a Starbucks in hand when I'm reading her blog. Usually. ;) Check out Oona's 10 X 30! I had so much fun talking to Oona. I can't wait for you to listen to her! Also, just a reminder that we're offering 15% off all workshops and fabric through to the end of November 9th to celebrate the official launch of The Sewing Affair Studio! Just enter the code LAUNCH at checkout. :) Thanks so much for listening - enjoy the podcast! xoxo Music is from freemusicarchive.org. Song is Mi Mundo by Dadalu.

TSA Episode 8: Closet Case Files
Happy Thanksgiving, Canada! Okay, so I'm about a week late but better late than never I always say. ;) I did mange to whip up a skirt (to be revealed at a later date) and there wasn't a lot of time for more than that. But I'm going to make up for it this coming weekend. I get to partake in an entire day of bra-making!! Like from early in the morning to later in the evening and the best part is I get to do it with two girlfriends! Eeeeeep!! Especially after I didn't even last much more than an hour at our sewing night this past weekend because I was exhausted from a ridiculously long weekend of work. Boooooo! So I spent the rest of the weekend eyeballing up some patterns I'd like to make. In my bra making class the instructor suggested two pairs of knickers to one bra - but I dunno, is that a good rule of thumb? Or should it be 1:1? Decisions, decisions! Let me know what you think. I'm just not too sure if I should look for one bra pattern and two knicker patterns or if I should look for two and two. Of course I did see that Ohhh Lulu! put together some pattern sets so maybe that's the way to go. I'm super excited for today's episode of the show. Heather Lou from Closet Case Files is madly working on her next pattern, which is being released any day now so I was super excited she was willing to take the time to chat with me. It's so awesome to be able to put a voice to the pictures and the blog I've been reading for so long! Have a read through Heather's 10X30: Thanks so much for listening - enjoy the podcast! xoxo Music is from freemusicarchive.org. Song is Mi Mundo by Dadalu.

TSA Episode 7: Ohhh Lulu!
This podcast episode is perfect timing to go along with my current obsession of sewing lingerie. And believe it or not, I didn't even consciously plan the timing of my interview with Sarah! I can't even think about admitting how much time I've spent on the internet looking at bras and panties made by others, not to mention the time I've spent looking at the various patterns, kits and supplies that are out there. Ohhhhhh, yeah. To say I'm obsessed right now is a slight understatement. But it's an epidemic that's getting bigger and bigger. Have you seen the latest makes by A Very Purple Person? Even Lauren over at Lladybird has gotten on the bra-making train! Consider yourself warned, if you haven't yet gotten the bug, it's only a matter of time! :) Whenever I think about making lingerie, I always think of Sarah from Ohhh Lulu! The thing about her is, she's the perfect bra-making package rolled into one. Not into making your own lingerie? Well no need to fret because Sarah makes lingerie for custom orders through her store Ohhh Lulu!. Totally into making your own lingerie? Well don't worry, she's got you covered. She designs and sells sewing patterns too on her pattern website, Ohhh Lulu Sews! And you may be able to guess what's coming next for us sew-driven, bra-making obsessed people, but you'll have to listen to the podcast to hear for yourself. Ha! Have a peruse through Sarah's 10X30: In this episode, I mention 4th Trimester Bodies Project. You can see their website here; their Instagram account here, and their Facebook page here. You can find the blog This is Moonlight here, and Nickie's Instagram account here. Thanks so much for listening - enjoy the podcast! xoxo Music is from freemusicarchive.org. TSA Episode 6: Lladybird
There's a whole part of me that wishes I lived in a part of the world where it's sunnier and warmer year round. Well, all of me pretty much wishes that but since that's not in the cards (right now, anyway), instead of focusing on the negatives and what I wish I had, I'm concentrating on looking at the positive aspects of living here on the West Coast and appreciating all that I have. Of course my favourite thing I appreciate this time of year is to sew during the day and cozy up on the couch to knit during the evenings! I'm fairly new to knitting but I've really wanted to join a knitting group as I admit to being slightly envious of those who reference being a part of one - mostly because it's an opportunity to socialize and knit - two things I really enjoy doing. :) Anyway, since I can't find a knitting group in my area, I've decided to start one! I met someone who lives in my area who knits and has also been looking for a knitting group so we've decided that even if it's just the two of us in the group to start with, we're sure others will see how much fun we're having and want to join in. I'll post more details soon on the blog for those of you in my part of the world who knit and may want to join us for some knitting and socializing! Also on the topic of knitting, Knit City is an annual event that takes place here in Vancouver each year and it's happening this coming weekend! I'm sure you can guess where I'll be spending my Saturday. :) I get as excited these days about yarn as I do about fabric though I'm not as obsessed with yarn as I am about fabric. This is the first time I'll be attending, but I hear there is LOTS of yarn available there so that may change. Okay fine, I'll stop talking about knitting,,, for now, anyway! Ha! You guys, I had the best time chatting with Lauren Taylor from Lladybird! I usually have a few butterflies in my stomach when I first call my guests but you know, all of the guests I've had so far have been so wonderful and inviting that I feel silly for being nervous in the first place! Lauren of course was no exception to this and I forgot all about the butterflies almost right away. Have a read through Lauren's 10 X 30 questions: In the podcast I mention a website for knitting patterns (Ha! More knitting!), which you can find here. AND to clarify, I initially refer to Lauren's blog Lladybird as Lauren-ladybird but the initial "L" does not stand for Lauren. It's just how I personal

TSA Episode 5: Thread Theory
Do you ever have one of those days where you just want to lock yourself away from the world and sew? What's that? You do everyday? Ha! Me too! Only I haven't been able to make that happen lately. So this weekend I vowed to spend at least one of the days making something for myself. And maybe, just maybe, I'll have a blog post about a make! Fun! I'll leave what I'm going to make for that post but I can tell you it's not going to be anything super complicated. There's not enough time for that! But since I have created a list for a fall/winter wardrobe that I'm going to focus on making over the next couple of months, it will definitely be something on that list! I'll be writing about my wardrobe list shortly - mostly because I find publishing it really does help to keep me on track. You guys, you are going to love this week's guest. I know I say that every week and this week is no different. I'm excited to bring to you Morgan from Thread Theory! That's right - MORGAN FROM THREAD THEORY!!! How cool is that?! She was such a joy to talk to and after we finished chatting I couldn't stop thinking of so many other things I wish I had asked her. (Darn my star-struck brain!) Anyway, that just means we'll have to have her back another time, right?! Before you have a listen, check out her 10 X 30: I know you're going to love listening to Morgan - enjoy the podcast! xoxo Music is from freemusicarchive.org. Song is Mi Mundo by Dadalu.

TSA Episode 4: A Fashionable Stitch
Oh my, fall is definitely here! Not that you could tell by the weather we're having - it's been gloriously warm. As though summer doesn't want to say goodbye. But the cooler weather will come and while I wish I lived in an area where it is sunny and warm most of the year, I don't. So how am I conquering the fall blues? By planning a fall wardrobe! Ohhhhh yeah I did! I made a commitment with myself quite a while back to be more intentional about my sewing - you know, like making things that I'll actually wear. (I was notorious for making outfits that in reality I would NEVER wear out of the house.) So taking the time to plan and be intentional about what I'm going to make was kind of fun and the idea of fall and winter bearable because I'll be sporting some fun new outfits for it! I'm actually excited to get started! On a much more exciting note though, I'm thrilled to tell you we have Sunni from A Fashionable Stitch on the podcast this week! She has had a remarkable year and if you follow her blog, you know it hasn't always been easy for her. She talks a bit about that and so, so much more - as usual, I just couldn't stop talking! (Sorry, Sunni!!!) Also, if you haven't come across Sunni's blog, before, you should definitely check it out! It's loaded with tons of tutorials and she's made some pretty amazing projects. (Pssst, she has an online store with all sorts of goodies for sewing - and has some pretty great fabric listed!) Before we get to it, I will once again express my sincere gratitude and send a HUGE shout out to all of you who have listened to the podcast! It's been so much fun having the opportunity to talk to our guests and I'm so excited technology allows me to share that experience with you. Thank you for taking the time to listen! And of course if our guests weren't willing to chat with me, there would be nothing to share so a really big shout out to our guests too! I know how busy you are so THANK YOU! Have a read through Sunni's 10 X 30: So now that we've posted a few 10 X 30's, what do you think of this addition to the blog post? I personally think it's fun - am I the only one? Let me know what you think! Enjoy the podcast! xoxo Music is from freemusicarchive.org. Song is Mi Mundo by Dadalu.

TSA Episode 3: Handmade by Heather B
Well, I haven't been blogging much in the way of garments but here we are with Episode 3 of the podcast already and it would seem I've blogged more in the last three weeks than I have in the last three months! But that does have to come to end - I have so many other things I want to write about and I sure don't want this blog to only be about the podcast - even if I am ridiculously excited about it! Thank you all once again for the support and encouragement around this podcast - I'm going to try not to gush about this every post but honestly, I will probably find it really hard not to. I have received such kindness from both listeners and guests that it's hard not to want to sing from the mountain tops or swing from chandeliers about it. Honestly, I'm just so happy you don't find my voice as annoying as I thought you would! HA! :) And ohmigosh you guys, the guests we have lined up are AMAZE-BALLS! Definitely as awesome as the first three have been! Okay, enough with all that. I can't wait to tell you who our guest is today - Heather B as in the Handmade by Heather B!!! Yup, she put Froggy to work (so as not to slow down production) & sent D-boy out with his dad so she could take a little time to chat with yours truly. MAJOR happy smile on my face about that people!! (Pinch me now - first Seamstress Erin, then Lauren Dahl and today Heather B!) So before we get started, you should check out her 10 X 30 answers: Definitely go check out her blog - in addition to heaps of posts about all her makes, she has a whole page dedicated for fitting! Enjoy the podcast! xoxo Music is from freemusicarchive.org. Song is Mi Mundo by Dadalu.

TSA Episode 2: Lauren Dahl
I cannot even begin to tell you how grateful I'm feeling right now! Thank you so much for listening to Episode 1 of the podcast and thank you to all those who took the time to comment on the blog, send me an email, and chatted on Twitter about it! I'm pretty excited about the podcast and I'm really happy others are enjoying listening to it. We have some pretty amazing guests booked already and I'm in talks with many others as well. Seriously, I have to keep pinching myself - I'm all like: Really??? So-and-so (only I actually say the name) is going to take time out of their crazy schedule to talk to me? But yeah, they are. 'Cuz that's the kind of cool kids they are. So today's guest features Lauren Dahl, creator of Pattern Workshop and author of the blog Baste & Gather where she shares all sorts of things that she creates in her sewing space. She's also the founder of Selvage Designs, where she sells her pattern designs. I really enjoyed talking to her and I hope you enjoy listening to her as much. Lauren and I chatted for quite a while so brace yourselves, this episode is a little longer than last week's! (Hmmmm..... I seem to have a theme going already since I couldn't seem to stop talking with Erin either. Really, I only stopped talking to Erin when I did because I knew she had a ton of stuff still to do for her wedding & I was feeling guilty. Mostly I was worried she was just going to hang up on me. I KID! So future guests, consider yourselves warned - apparently I like to talk!) We've added a little addition to blog summaries for the podcast episodes. It's a fun little feature I'll be including in the blog post summary for each podcast episode. We're calling it 10 X 30, aptly named (we think) because it's 10 questions which shouldn't take our guest longer than 30 seconds to answer or for our viewers to read through. Nothing crazy, just some fun facts about our guest! Here's Lauren's 10 X 30: Now for those of you who are interested in signing up for Pattern Workshop's PDF Sewing Pattern Design Course, Lauren is having a sale! She's offering $20 off the regular price ($149) from now through Monday, September 1, 2014! (For the record, this is not an affiliate post. I am not receiving any money for adding this into my blog post. I just happen to think this is a great sale price for this course!) Music is from freemusicarchive.org. Song is Mi Mundo by Dadalu.

TSA Episode 1: Seamstress Erin
I have been considering starting a podcast for several months now and after some careful thought around the topic, I took the plunge. And am I ever glad I did! It's been a heck of a lot of work to get it all organized, which not only included setting up technical equipment but also some administrative work with regards to my blog and other on-line programs that I hadn't realized would take so much time. But it's all been worth it because I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to speak with all the guests we have lined up for the show. I personally really enjoy listening to podcasts and audio books while I'm sewing and especially during my commute to and from work, which is about an hour one way (Free advice for the day: Commuting is a slow & painful way to spend your waking hours - don't do it if you don't have to! But if you have to, be sure to download our podcast! ;) Ha!). So I figured I'd put myself out there to see if a) people would be willing to talk to me as guests for the podcast and b) people will actually listen to the podcast. Well, we have some pretty amazing guests lined up so far (I'm seriously grateful for all the support for the podcast that people are showing!) and we'll just have to wait and see what listeners think of it! So what do I talk to our guests about? Well, all sorts of things! About their blog, their businesses, their sewing and whatever else comes up in the conversation. If you have some suggestions for guests you'd like to hear on the podcast, definitely let us know! Send an email to info[at]thesewingaffair[dot]com with Podcast in the subject line. Also, the podcast is available on iTunes and Stitcher (if not when this episode is published, then soon after - it's in process) so if you do enjoy the podcast, it would be great (and I'd be so grateful) if you'd take the time to write a review so guests and I can get an idea of how many people are listening and enjoying the podcast. I'm super excited to have Dr Erin from www.seamstresserin.com on as our guest on Episode 1 of the podcast. I have been a fan of Erin's for a couple of years now because I love her enthusiasm and I-can-do-anything-I-set-my-mind-to attitude. It's been an incredible year for Erin and she's wrapping it up with a wedding (today!) and a four-month honeymoon in Southeast Asia! I really enjoyed speaking with Erin and I'm excited to be able to share our conversation with you. Please have a listen to the podcast and be sur
