The New Monstars of College Basketball, Netflix's Rom-Com Resurgence, NFL midseason ChangUp | S01E06
Welcome back for the 6th episode of the Schaff Bros podcast. We kick things off today starting with the early reaction to Duke’s Fab 5! Coach K is now all in on “One & Done” college player and has now somehow got the top 5 players in college basketball on his team. Will they go undefeated? Give the NCAA Championship trophy to them already? Also, we look at the early thoughts of the NBA season and how a lot of teams who were predicted to do great haven’t done well. We look at the Rockets and why their start hasn’t gone great. Next, Joe & Nate look at the NFL season so far and discuss who are the Real Deal for the Lombardi Trophy. Are the Chiefs ready to win it all? What happened to Jacksonville? Then, we move to movies and how Netflix has taken a cue from John Hughes and started creating these original high school movies that are better than what’s in the theaters. We discuss how Netflix cast the right people in these roles and we’re invested in these characters that we go on the journey with them. We go from feeling good to feeling scared when we discuss the new Halloween movie. We look at how this movie pays homage to the original and how, as Joe believes, is the sequel to Halloween we’ve all been waiting for. By no means is it perfect but that’s what makes it so appealing is this one tried to be original as well as play to the audience. Finally, Nathan comes into the new Harry Potter world film, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. We look at how the magic of Harry Potter is still running and churning out all these movies exploring this magical world….without mentioning or showing Harry Potter. Join us for a fun-filled discussion and the Schaff Bros dive in to give the people a little healthy medicine. Let’s Look At The Tape: Space Jam Retrospective | S01E04
Schaff Bros. go to the tape and look back on a forgotten classic, Space Jam, because of the recent announcement of LeBron James creating “Space Jam 2”. We look back on a film no one expected and, after viewing, never would forget. Just us as we listened to commentary of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and director Joe Pytka discuss the outlandish story arc that is Space Jam. We go back to 1996 to look at what brought Michael Jordan, at the time, the greatest athlete in sports, and the Looney Tunes on the big screen together. We look at the debut of a new Toon, Lola Bunny, and how she was a precursor to how women have become apart of the basketball culture. Nowadays, more girls/women play or watch basketball because when they saw Lola Bunny it drew them into a sport mostly dominated by men. Also, we look at the other NBA players in this movie such as Charles Barkley before he was Sir Charles. This movie proved one thing, “NBA players need to stick to playing basketball because acting isn’t one of them.” Then, we discuss a bunch of 90’s references from Newman and Pulp Fiction homage to classic Bill Murray before he became a serious dramatic actor. Next, we talk about the classic Air Jordan 9’s and 11’s that are still relevant and popular as if the movie is still playing in theaters. Likewise, the Space Jam soundtrack comes up and so many legendary artist of hip-hop and R&B are on this album that it reads off like a Hall of Fame inductees. So many tracks were great and you can put this album on without having to skip a song. Finally, we look at the overall impact this movie has had in the last 22 years! Injuries and Fantasies and Chefs, Oh My!!! | S01E03
On this episode we discuss the injuries that have plagued us both: real and fantasy. Nathan discusses his recent injury of his back strain. He was in so much pain it inflicted more than he thought... and he doesn’t remember what happened. Crazy times!!! Also, fantasy football hasn’t been well for Joe lately, with Jimmy G being injured and having to change up his fantasy team. Also, we look ahead to the 2018-2019 NBA season. Nathan uses his “Rain Man” talents of listing off the under the radar players to watch for each 30 teams, Rapid Fire! We each discuss our players we think will dominate in Fantasy Basketball this year. Finally, Nathan recommends a show his family loves to watch, Chefs Table. We discuss how great chefs make food not only taste excellent but bring their own life stories into what they create. These brothers will discuss any and every topic that entertains them. How It All Began. Best Sport Movie? The Predator Franchise!
Welcome back everyone for the 2nd episode of The Schaff Bros podcast. Unlike Attack Of The Clones, this is the story of a friendship that blossoms into a bromance! We discuss the NBA offseason and how the angry Ninja Turtle, Russell Westbrook, will lead the Thunder. Also, we dive into Devin Booker’s injury this guy will literally put himself in harm’s way just to prove the point of “if you can shoot, why pass?” Next, Joe will give a recap of Fantasy Football and how his knowledge of running the table in Fantasy makes sense to have a real job as a GM of an NFL team. Then, we look at our favorite sports movie and the ones that inspire us. Some you may know and others that come out of left field. Also, Nate gives a review of Amazon Prime’s new show, Jack Ryan. We wonder if Dwight Schrute is revealed to be the villain of the show? And Finally, we discuss the new movie, The Predator, and compare it with the 1987 original that had us all wanting to know “If it bleeds, we can kill it”. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/the-schaff-bros/message
