Why Less Accessible Doesn't Mean Less Invested
Let’s talk about accessibility. New leaders tend to struggle with this as they are prone to have an open-door policy and invite everyone to their calendars. This is particularly difficult for business owners that are moving from founder to CEO. However, the truth is the further that you go up in an organization the less accessible you need to be. I’m here to tell you that there is nothing wrong with visibility, but your ultimate goal is to make an impact in your industry and create an environment where people feel valued, and where they can grow & develop. You want to help facilitate your team’s ability to do great work that will help grow the business. Today’s episode is intended to help leaders reframe what accessibility means. Understand that your executive team is your voice, eyes, and ears. They are the direct contact to their next level and so on. Let’s get you out of the details of the day-to-day operations and into the actual strategy of the business. 𝑇𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 📝 🔑 Pulling back on your accessibility doesn’t mean that you no longer care. It means that you have trust in your people and their abilities. 🔑 CEOs don’t need to know the details of the day-to-day operations, they just need to know that their vision and exceptions are clear and that they have people around them that can execute them. 🔑 “Everybody needs me” isn’t a badge of honor. It means that you haven’t set them up to be self-sufficient. ℍ𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕜 📚 Evaluate how accessible you are to people and why. If you are easily accessible, is it ego? Do you not trust your team? 𝓯𝓾𝓵𝓵 🎧 𝓪𝓷𝓭 📹 𝓪𝓽 🔗 𝓲𝓷 𝓫𝓲𝓸  Be sure to tune in each week for new episodes! The Long-Term Consequences of Hidden Agendas Within Organizations
There are consequences for any agenda, no matter if that agenda is hidden or blatant. There will be consequences no matter what choice we make, and we are not free from the consequences of those choices. However, we can reap the benefits of making good choices, leading people well, and building up the leaders of tomorrow. This episode is about helping leaders make better decisions and expose those hidden agendas rooted in pride that are happening today and that are going to be the downfall of organizations that exist a generation from now. The goal is to be innovative, but your individual hidden agendas could potentially be preventing your organization from moving forward. Listen now to learn about hidden agendas and their long-term consequences. 𝑇𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 📝 🔑 If you’re not careful, the long-term consequence of your hidden agendas is to teach your organization that how you treat people does not matter. 🔑 Hidden agendas are often individual and not collective. 🔑 It’s always a good time to do the right thing and it’s always a good time to speak truth to power. ℍ𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕜 📚 Think through your agenda. Is it a real agenda or a hidden agenda? Is it about the greater good of the organization or is it about you? Think about how you lead, where you want to move your organization forward, and the people looking to you for you to lead them. What’s your agenda and what are the long-term consequences of your behavior today? 𝓯𝓾𝓵𝓵 🎧 𝓪𝓷𝓭 📹 𝓪𝓽 🔗 𝓲𝓷 𝓫𝓲𝓸  Be sure to tune in each week for new episodes! Drive Innovation and Productivity in Your Business By Setting Guardrails
In today’s episode of The Rutledge Perspective, we’re going to be talking about guidelines & guardrails vs borderlines and why this is important to you as a leader or business owner. Boundaries are impenetrable lines. Examples of boundaries are fences and walls. This boils down to what’s allowed and what’s not allowed. A guideline is something put in place for people to follow. These guidelines should align with the culture that you’ve established or the business that you’re doing. Guardrails are upper and lower control limits placed on a given process. Guardrails are the places in which people have complete freedom to operate, exercise creativity, grow their leadership skills, bring in their perspectives, and launch plans to execute the goals that have been set. The information in this show is critical because as you get more comfortable with setting guardrails your ability to lead, develop new leaders, get things done, and be innovative will grow exponentially. Check it out! 𝑇𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 📝 🔑 People will listen to what you say but they will believe what you do. 🔑 Guardrails give you a great opportunity to learn your people! 🔑 If you want freedom to operate you must give your team freedom to operate. ℍ𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕜 📚 Examine your team. Are you constantly getting pushed to answer questions and make a lot of decisions? If so, you need to evaluate your process to determine if you are setting clear expectations and it may also be time to decide to start setting up guardrails so that they have the freedom to operate. Also, make sure that your people know without question that you are going to coach them and train them to help them move into the roles and genius that they want to move into. 𝓯𝓾𝓵𝓵 🎧 𝓪𝓷𝓭 📹 𝓪𝓽 🔗 𝓲𝓷 𝓫𝓲𝓸  Be sure to tune in each week for new episodes! How Leaders Can Understand and Cross Hurdles to Reach More Goals
I have a feeling that you’ve been in a rut lately. You haven’t had that same tenacity and zeal in moving toward your goals. I want you to know that it’s important that you raise your level of awareness to recognize what’s getting in your way and that you take targeted action to find a solution to that thing that’s bothering you. There’s a lot of noise that’s tied to old experiences. We get bogged down and anxious about choices that we made in the past that didn’t work in our favor. When we are working towards new goals, this is actually an opportunity to go back and look at the impact of those choices and how we can redo, undo, realign, modify, and make adjustments that make a shift in our energy, effort, & attitude. Today’s episode is all about getting you out of that funk and into your zone of genius. Listen as we break down how to identify what’s holding you back and how to take targeted action toward your goals for your sake and for the sake of your team. Let’s get you out of that rut and over those hurdles! 𝑇𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 📝 🔑 We get to control where we put our effort and our energy. 🔑 Awareness is key. Awareness can help you understand and reframe whatever it is that’s getting in the way. 🔑 It can be debilitating to constantly blame yourself. Old experiences, doubts, and concerns can leave us paralyzed and afraid to leap forward. ℍ𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕜 📚 Give yourself the gift of time to pause. Take a moment to think about and evaluate the issue. Then make an intentional decision about what necessary changes need to be made. 𝓯𝓾𝓵𝓵 🎧 𝓪𝓷𝓭 📹 𝓪𝓽 🔗 𝓲𝓷 𝓫𝓲𝓸  Be sure to tune in each week for new episodes! Patience, Timing, and Iteration: Leadership Lessons Learned From Gardening
Has someone ever told you to be patient and you literally wanted to punch them in the face? Well, I can definitely relate to this as patience has not been one of my strong suits when it comes to my personal goals. I think that this is because we have associated a negative connotation with the word patience. When we think of patience, we think that it means sitting and waiting. In actuality, patience is when we sit, watch, evaluate, understand, adjust, and move again. The irony in all of this is that I actually learned this lesson in patience through my journey in gardening. I’ve wanted to give up on gardening at least a thousand times but my goal of wanting to eat something I grew wouldn’t allow me to. I had to learn to be patient and realize that things don’t happen overnight. I had to learn to access the situation, gather information, and make adjustments accordingly. This also applies to leadership. Remember that nothing is a straight line, and it takes time to get a department running smoothly. True leaders are invested in the success of their team and get satisfaction in seeing something grow that they helped nurture. Go ahead and check out today’s episode to learn more about the correlation between gardening, patience, and leadership.   𝑇𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 📝 🔑 Everything doesn’t happen tomorrow and just because it doesn’t mean that it won’t it just means that it may not be time right now. 🔑 If you’re truly living in your divine purpose, then those little speed bumps are just stepping stones along the path to the thing you will achieve. 🔑 Have some patience with yourself, have some patience with the process, have some patience with where you’re trying to go, and how you’re trying to get there. If you know what, the how is going to take care of itself. ℍ𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕜 📚 Give yourself pause to think about where you’re going to move next. Allow for the intention of learning, adapting, and flexibility. Allow for the opportunity to take what happens and adjust & learn. 𝓯𝓾𝓵𝓵 🎧 𝓪𝓷𝓭 📹 𝓪𝓽 🔗 𝓲𝓷 𝓫𝓲𝓸  Be sure to tune in each week for new episodes! Understanding Risk Tolerance and How to Leverage it to Build a Successful Business
Let’s talk about risk. Risks are anything that gets in the way of you achieving your objectives within a company or your business. These risks can be financial, reputation, organization, production, and even talent. Before we address risk, it’s very important that we are clear on our objectives, have a solid plan to reach those objectives, and also understand that the industry or business that we chose comes with its own set of risks. Assuming that we are clear on our mission, we can then tackle the reality of risks and understand our own risk tolerance to achieve success in our business. There is a multitude of ways to address risks. Today we are going to talk about managing, mitigating, and sometimes avoiding risks altogether. The purpose of this show is to help my business owners and company leaders realize that there will always be risks. The key is to take the proper measures and hire trained professionals to manage, mitigate, and even avoid some risks entirely. Today's episode will help you understand and align your personal risk tolerance with that of your industry or business. My mission is to help get you unstuck, ease your anxiety, and maximize your results! 𝑇𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 📝 🔑 Risk tolerance is what you are willing to put up with for the sake of the goals that you’re willing to achieve. 🔑 If you’re going to be innovative you must have a level of risk tolerance. You must be willing to move fast and fail fast. 🔑 Complete risk avoidance isn’t a formula for success, but safety risks can be completely avoided by implementing precautions and automation that limits human involvement.  🔑 Risk management helps you deal with risks that are a part of the business that you chose to be in. ℍ𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕜 📚 Do you have clarity on the objectives within your department or business? Do you know the risks that are associated with your industry? Do you have a process in place to manage and mitigate these risks? If you answered no to these questions, it’s time to get to work. Map out a plan for your business or department and remember, write it down, and make it plain! 𝓯𝓾𝓵𝓵 🎧 𝓪𝓷𝓭 📹 𝓪𝓽 🔗 𝓲𝓷 𝓫𝓲𝓸  Be sure to tune in each week for new episodes! Making Your Vision Clear and Simple to Maximize Your Team's Success
Have you ever sat in a meeting for hours and at the end of it you feel just as lost as you did at the beginning? This is because “leaders” spend so much time making presentations look good, but they actually say nothing and have no real value. More time is invested in the slides than in the message and therefore no critical information is communicated. This is also why nothing gets done. Nothing gets done because no one is clear about what the true vision is. If you want to take your organization to new heights, you will need to build trust. Trust is critical and one way to build trust is to be clear. Clarity helps everyone move forward in unison toward a common goal but you as the leader must have a clear vision yourself. How do you develop a clear vision for your organization? WRITE IT DOWN AND MAKE IT PLAIN. Write your vision down and repeat it tirelessly until regurgitating it becomes second nature. Still not clear? Don’t worry, on today’s show I’m going to help you develop that vision and communicate it effectively to your team to help your organization soar faster and further!    𝑇𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 📝 🔑 Sometimes you have to go slow to go fast… 🔑 Clarity gives you an opportunity to be consistent.  🔑 Being clear means being unequivocally aligned with who you are, where you are, what you want, and what it’s going to take to get there. ℍ𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕜 📚 Write it down and make it plain. Very simple. Write down your vision for your organization and make it plain. Repeat your vision until you know it inside & out. 𝓯𝓾𝓵𝓵 🎧 𝓪𝓷𝓭 📹 𝓪𝓽 🔗 𝓲𝓷 𝓫𝓲𝓸  Be sure to tune in each week for new episodes! The Importance of Opening Up The World to New Ideas and Perspectives Featuring Anna DeShawn
Let’s close out Women’s History Month with a bang! In this special episode of The Rutledge Perspective, I am joined by none other than Chicago-born media professional and social entrepreneur, Anna DeShawn! Anna is the Founder & CEO of E3 Radio which is an online radio station playing Queer music & reporting on Queer news with an intersectional lens. She is also the Co-Founder & CEO of The Qube, a podcast production company and curated platform to discover the best music & podcasts by BIPOC & QTPOC creatives. Anna is determined to ride media into its next era by utilizing online radio streams to tell the stories and play the music that needs to be heard. Having seen the lack of investment in the podcasting space when it comes to people of color, Anna is on a mission to give a voice to the voiceless and share fresh perspectives with the world. As I like to say, Anna gives people not in those communities a safe place to be curious. Along with her sharing her vision for the future as it pertains to podcasting, Anna also shares with us how she developed a love for media. From growing up admiring Robin Roberts to studying TV production at Drake University and serving different roles on the Tom Joyner Morning Show. Anna’s always been involved in the media production process in one way or another and she isn’t stopping any time soon! However, this episode is much deeper than media production. This show is about someone with multiple marginalized identities standing on the shoulders of those that came before her and sharing different perspectives with hopes to open people’s minds and push society forward. How to Gain Clarity, Take Action, and Have a Lasting Impact Featuring Rebecca M. Thompson
Have you ever felt like you wanted to make a big change in your life but were afraid of everything that could potentially come with making that move? Maybe, you’re okay with the fear of the unknown but you can’t come to grips with the scrutiny that you will face from others for making a pivot in your career. If that’s you, then you should go ahead, and press play on this episode because my guest is going to help light your path and bring you some much-needed clarity that will help you transform your life from the inside out! In today’s episode of The Rutledge Perspective, I am joined by the marvelous Rebecca M. Thompson. Rebecca is a Clarity Coach for high-achieving black women and the Founder of the Live in Your Light Bootcamp, which is a transformative 3-month personal and professional executive coaching experience for high-achieving black women who want the clarity and confidence to transform their lives. Rebecca provides us with tangible tips on how to examine our lives, gain clarity on what matters most, and then take action to make an impact. She also shares personal stories of times when she had to make transitions and pivots in her own life. As a child, Rebecca completed a summer internship working alongside a political figure that would spark her interest in politics. That shaped her goals and moves that she made from there on but a career in politics was not where she ultimately landed. She had to go through a lot of trials and tribulations to become the woman that she is today and that is someone that took the time to discover themselves and is aware that she wouldn’t be where she is if she was afraid to live life! Take this show as your permission to live life and realize that it’s okay to take multiple paths in life. You’re not a failure if something doesn’t feel right to you anymore. It’s okay to dig into those feelings and maybe make an adjustment, pivot, or shift to move into that next thing. See Rebecca M. Thompson’s full bio here. 𝑇𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 📝 🔑 Get out of what is comfortable & easy and fail faster! It is supposed to be hard but it will also be joyful. 🔑 Do it afraid and don’t tell everybody. Go dark! This allows you to do the difficult things without the judgment of what people think. 🔑 There’s no such thing as permeant decisions are people. 🔑 Bonus: Please understand that the fear does not go away, you will constantly have to push past fear to live the life that you want to live. ℍ𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕜 📚 Give yourself a chance to evaluate your life and determine if that’s the one that you want. If you feel convicted about transforming your life and making a pivot, then ask yourself this question: what’s the worst that can possibly happen? 𝓯𝓾𝓵𝓵 🎧 𝓪𝓷𝓭 📹 𝓪𝓽 🔗 𝓲𝓷 𝓫𝓲𝓸  Be sure to tune in each week for new episodes! Food is Medicine: Why the Key to True Wellness is in Your Diet Featuring Dr. Shayla Toombs-Withers
This week on the Rutledge Perspective Podcast, I am joined by the amazing Dr. Shayla Toombs-Withers and we will be talking about a major key in unlocking true wellness, your diet! Dr. Toombs-Withers is a board-certified physician in family medicine & obesity medicine, and the founder of Essence of Health Wellness Clinic based in Chattanooga, TN. Her belief is that we should have our food be our medicine! The health disparities that black communities face are no secret. It’s also not a secret that we have the highest rates of diabetes, strokes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and cancer. However, did you know that a large part of these health conditions are preventable by simply moving our bodies and also by what we consume? A lot of illnesses can be traced back to stress and we deal with a lot of stress in black communities due to factors outside of our control but what we can control is what we put on our plate. Dr. Toombs-Withers is here to share her story of how switching to a plant-based diet helped her overcome her bout with abdominal pain. She also talks about the benefits of a plant-based diet and how we can rethink & unlearn common misconceptions surrounding it. Ultimately, her goal is to get people to participate in their own health and to get more plants on their plate…NOW! See Dr. Shayla Toombs-Withers’ full bio here. 𝑇𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 📝 🔑 The essence of health is in you! 🔑 Keep saying something to your doctor if something doesn’t feel right. Even if you are doing well with all the medical screening and tests. 🔑 If you don’t make time for your wellness, you will make time for your illness. 🔑 Bonus: Plant-based eating doesn’t have to be more expensive. You can buy things in bulk like brown rice, dried beans, and oatmeal. ℍ𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕜 📚 This is a very easy homework assignment…GET MORE PLANTS ON YOUR PLATE! Start today and keep it simple. Start subbing plants into things that you like and build from there. Don’t make it complicated. 𝓯𝓾𝓵𝓵 🎧 𝓪𝓷𝓭 📹 𝓪𝓽 🔗 𝓲𝓷 𝓫𝓲𝓸  Be sure to tune in each week for new episodes! She also talks about the mistakes that she made along the way and the lessons that she learned from them. Lastly, Rachel shares how she gained clarity with the vision for herself as well as for her business. With data showing that most small businesses only last about 2-3 years, it’s great to get insight into what it takes to not only start a business but to have longevity from someone whose company has been thriving for over 14 years. I hope that you take away something valuable from this amazing woman and learn that it’s okay to be afraid but just do it anyway! Learn more about Rachel here:   Rachel was raised in Texas and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1998 with a degree in Interior Architecture. After working for a short time in San Antonio, TX at GSC Architects, Rachel and her husband were seeking a new adventure and relocated to Portland. The PNW offered lots of varied opportunities for work and project type. Rachel began at Soderstrom Architects, then moved to Bora Architects, specializing in the design of schools and performing arts centers. Moving to a new project type and a new firm, MGA,
in 2003, Rachel was able to gain traction in the world of Hospitality and Mixed-Use Housing, which quickly became her passion.  In 2009, in the heart of the recession, Rachel pivoted away from her role at MGA and Vida Design was born. The vision for Vida was a simple one; provide clients with an all-inclusive, boutique design experience, and incredible service with no attitude. The growth of Vida was steady and by 2013, the firm was up to twenty employees. Today, Vida is a thriving firm of forty-three with an unwavering vision for design excellence, a supportive culture, and meaningful client relationships. Rachel functions as CEO and President at Vida and is still extremely involved in forging relationships with new clients, supporting design teams, and strategic visioning.  𝑇𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 📝 🔑 If you want to go fast go alone if you want to go far go with others! 🔑 When stepping into your dream learn to do it afraid. The Power of Making Meaningful Connections
Have you ever heard the expression, “it’s not what you know but who you know?” Well, I’m here to tell you that this statement is partly true. Networking and connections are important but it’s meaningful connections with the right intentions that are truly powerful! Connection is hearing what someone needs and being able to fulfill that need. It’s not a selfish pursuit to shake hands with everyone in the room or to give out every single business card. Connection is about service, impact, and combining resources. We must realize that when we build up others, we build up ourselves. In this episode, I share a powerful & inspiring story about a recent connection that I made that truly filled my heart. This God-ordained connection that I was able to facilitate will bring value and opportunities to so many people. Just remember to always stay connected to who you are, stay connected to your bigger why stay connected to your bigger purpose, and stay open to those things that come to you as opportunities for you to deliver on your purpose. Also, look for opportunities to connect with other people. 𝑇𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 📝 🔑 When you really know who you are, that allows you to show up with a level of confidence that allows you to connect with other people. 🔑 Prosperity comes when you serve and are present for the right reasons. 🔑 Always aim to be a solution for one person in a room, not to just meet everyone in the room. ℍ𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕜 📚 Sit deep with this and think about the connections that you have. Think about the connections that you want to have, the connections that you can make for others. 𝓯𝓾𝓵𝓵 🎧 𝓪𝓷𝓭 📹 𝓪𝓽 🔗 𝓲𝓷 𝓫𝓲𝓸  Be sure to tune in each week for new episodes! Qualifications vs Experience: Which is More Critical to Your Team's Success?
Are you a business owner or a leader of an organization that’s looking to hire top talent? If so, you may have had the struggle of weighing experience against qualifications. I’m here to tell you that the two are not mutually exclusive or guaranteed to exist at the same time. Someone can be qualified but lack experience or they can have a ton of experience but lack the necessary qualifications. What’s important is that hiring professionals first have a clear vision of what you are looking for and why when looking to hire someone to support your team. What qualifications are you looking for? What are you requiring people to have in order to do the job that you’re hiring for? In other words, what level of qualification will people need to have to demonstrate that they have the ability to deliver a solution to your needs and ensure that your team is successful? Is it possible that you need someone with more experience? If so, understand that this will be more expensive. Can you afford the top talent that brings solutions to your organization, or do you need to hire people that meet the qualifications and that can be trained to meet your standards? We’re breaking this down and much more on this information-rich episode of the Rutledge Perspective. Check it out! 𝑇𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 📝 🔑 Qualifications are certifications or degrees. Experience is time spent doing the job or a role similar to the job that you need to be filled. 🔑 Top talent is the best talent that you can get in your market for what you’re willing to pay. 🔑 When you think about what qualifications are critical to success your world opens up to possibilities. ℍ𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕜 📚 If you are hiring someone to be your CFO, virtual assistant, staff member, or an integral part of your organization, ask yourself these very important questions: 1.             What qualifications are necessary for the job that you need to be filled? 2.             Are you in a position to hire someone that is qualified but lacks experience? 3.             Is your staff qualified to properly train new hires and onboard them correctly? 𝓯𝓾𝓵𝓵 🎧 𝓪𝓷𝓭 📹 𝓪𝓽 🔗 𝓲𝓷 𝓫𝓲𝓸  Be sure to tune in each week for new episodes! Maximizing Your Human Capital: Why Leaders Need to Understand that People Are Their Biggest Asset
Let’s talk about the concept of people being assets or human capital. Have you ever heard that it’s wrong to call a person an asset? Well, I’m here to challenge that thought! People are absolutely an asset. Actually, as a leader, they are the greatest asset that you can have. Context matters folks. The word asset isn’t a problem, it’s how we treat people and how we treat assets in our organization that’s the problem.  If we are going to drive our businesses, companies, and even personal relationships forward, we must invest our time, energy, and resources into people. The purpose of this episode is to get you to maximize your human capital. Once you invest in the best assets (people), they will create the best profits! Takeaways 📝  🔑 Value your assets as much as you value profit. 🔑 Remember this: mission first, people always. 🔑 There’s a difference between irreplaceable and expendable. Homework 📚  If you are a business owner or a leader of a company, ask yourself- are your words and actions in alignment as it pertains to the resources, time, and energy spent on the people that you claim are your biggest asset?  Be sure to tune in each week for new episodes!  Learn more about the host here: https://laurelrutledge.com  Let’s connect: Instagram: @laurel.k.rutledge Facebook: Laurel K Rutledge Linkedin: Laurel K. Imperfection Has Value: How to Use it to Your Advantage
Let’s discuss the value of imperfection. We often get caught up in a cycle of perfectionism when it comes to succeeding in life. We strive to not make any mistakes, to get everything right the first time, and to put our best foot forward. But what if I told you that imperfection can actually be an asset? The power of imperfection lies in the fact that it allows us to learn and adapt to new situations. Embracing imperfection gives us the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them, instead of being afraid of falling short and letting that fear limit our growth. Instead of resenting mistakes, use them as tools to help you understand different concepts and problem-solve more effectively. My goal with this episode is to help you realize that there’s no such thing as perfect. Embrace the unknown and keep pushing yourself further. I promise you, it will be worth it. Takeaways 📝  🔑 Inexperience & imperfections are opportunities to learn and grow. 🔑 Imperfect action is better than perfect inaction. 🔑 There are insights and lots of data within your imperfections that you can use to push you toward your goals. Homework 📚  Ask yourself this: What imperfection has stopped me from pursuing a goal? What is the goal and is this goal worth obtaining? What do I need to learn or what skills do I need to gain in order to overcome that imperfection and reach said goal? Why Price Does Not Always Reflect Value
Are you an entrepreneur, coach, or consultant that struggles with pricing your products or services? Maybe, you’re an employee that has had difficulty negotiating a raise. If you wear any of these hats, this is the show for you! This episode of the Rutledge Perspective is packed full of tangible information that will help you navigate through compensation negotiations with the utmost clarity. There’s a misconception that we are to be compensated based on our worth. The truth is that we demand a certain compensation based on the value that we bring & deliver to our organization or clients.  Once we understand this concept, we will be able to remove emotions from compensation discussions and tell a clear story of the value that we bring, and the price attached to that value! Takeaways 📝 🔑 Your base salary is not indicative of your value. 🔑 Eliminate the external response to money tied to value. 🔑 No one can pay you what you’re worth because you are priceless because you exist. The Importance of Defining Your Own Value
Don’t overthink this, you are valuable! You’re not valuable because of your job, your title, or your income. You’re valuable simply because you exist. If you do not clearly define your own value, external factors will begin to shape how you view yourself as a human being.  As we begin this new year and we look at what we hope to accomplish, it’s important to first establish who we are and where we are. Where you are doesn’t change who you are, it only informs how you show up as who you are and how you navigate through situations. This episode will not only help you define your own self value, it will help you establish a solid foundation and develop your own personal guide towards a meaningful life! Takeaways 📝  🔑 You are valuable because you’re here. 🔑 Your skills, expertise, and experiences add value but don’t determine value. 🔑 Use who you are and your own integrity as your guide for fulfillment and appreciation.
