Before the sax solo became a punchline in the 1980’s, the saxophone enjoyed its start influencing 50’s rock n roll with jazz. The saxophone had a harsher quality in early rock n roll music with players and influencers like King Curtis and Boots Randolph producing a more syncopated and distorted sound to fit in with the relatively new electric instruments.
