Lefty writers and bloggers and experts are just quoted as writers, bloggers, or experts. Conservatives are ALWAYS given the adjective "conservative consultant" or "ultra-conservative blog". Feminist on feminist violence - no it's not a porn movie, it might be the beginning of a return to normality - maybe, perhaps. Higher minimum wage makes finding a job harder for those entering the labor force. The first rung on the wage ladder is removed. Mark Halperin used to be a respected journalist, or at least he pretended to be. But his interview with Ted Cruz was a deplorable bit of racism and hackery - he basically challenged Cruz to prove that he was genuinely Cuban. Our podcast discussion was uplifting even in the middle of truly depressing news. We started with the great and shocking news of a Philadelphia special election wherein the Republican candidate kicked Democrat butt. Martina White beat at 2 to 1 Democrat voter advantage. Seriously. How did she do it, and how do we copy those tactics for our own efforts at converting folks to conservatism? She won by meeting voters face to face, getting to know them, making politics personal. That's where you reach folks, that's where you change the preconceived notions. She also changed the language. She spoke about government acting not as a controlling parent (the Democrat way), not as a remote stranger (GOP wants no government and will let you die in the street), but as a partner helping you to reach the success that you want and deserve. THAT is language we all need to adopt. Then we had to discuss some GOP not-so-good news. With Colorado's crazy man, and Indiana's RFRA chaos. There are some fundamental issues, basic issues, that we are losing, why? How do we not do those wrong things? So we talked about it. And maybe part of the solution lies in not spending so much time retweeting the bad arguments, linking to and commenting on and against the other side's messaging - but in creating our own instead. Even if we don't get out in front, we can put our messages out there, rather than just defend against theirs. It comes back to letting our ideas win at the personal level. One on one, from you to your readers, your friends. Don't talk freaky weird policy, talk about conservative living. Look around and all you see is people dividing each other into groups, separating themselves from others. That's not bad in and of itself, but it really keeps us from moving forward in any meaningful way. Pro-life folks position themselves apart from women in need, and can end up positioning themselves as a weird, offensive "other". Nanny statists separate parents from the ability to decide what's best for their kids, and then wonder why kids seem un-parented. Crony developers get tax breaks to add Section 8 units to their upscale apartment buildings - but make the poor enter through a separate door. Federal workers make more than private sector counterparts, and don't have the same concerns about performance, losing their jobs, not having retirement funds etc - they're a different class, separate from the rest of us. Not directly mentioned in the podcast, but it really is the theme tying things together - the more we separate ourselves into groups and subgroups, the weaker we seem to become - and the meaner, and unhappier. Did the Secretary of State put the nation at risk? Tonight's show began with coverage of the Hillary presser. The email scandal is still boiling, Hillary finally took a few questions, nothing surprising, all so very sad and predictable. How do we, as conservatives, talk about this is a way that will help our movement, help our side? It's the National Security, stupid. Hillary's homegrown email server is a humongous risk to the nation. We haven't quite gotten to the point in the scandal where we are discussing that with intensity, but we'll get there, and we need to be ready for it. So we talk about how to talk about it, effectively. Next we talked about how to recover from our ongoing disappointments with the Washington GOP. Sometimes it's just all so depressing - the left, the right, the general public - sometimes all you can do is recognize it and commisserate. That's an important first step, and helps us get to the point where we can make things better. The Left had a complete meltdown over Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to Congress. Why? What the heck is wrong with them? The DHS fight is over, the result is as expected - Obama and the Democrats got what they want. What do we do now? There isn't a consensus, perhaps we're still in the grieving period, anger, depression, etc - we're not yet at the solutions stage. We on the right hold some misconceptions about how low and middle wage families live and use money, If we want to be a more effective movement, with a larger base of support, we need to learn about this. Sharing the good news about unions, elections, MSNBC and Leftists. Then a bit of a downer with some bad news about conservatives in media. We close with a shocking story about roving bands of youths taking advantage of bad weather. Remember Wisconsin? Scott Walker's victory there over the unions meant that the public sector unions couldn't force people to pay dues, people got to choose. Their choice is no. Surprisingly, when unions have to compete for members in the free market they kind of fail. We took some joy in that. There's also been dramatic failure of the Democrat Party in Louisiana, worthy of celebrating. In the media world, super lefty "news" channel MSNBC is having some trouble attracting and retaining an audience, and they're retooling. Which way will they go?  Did you hear about what Patricia Arquette said at the Oscars? Pretty basic boilerplate lefty garbage - super rich woman claims to be spokesperson for downtrodden women everywhere. Ho hum. Conservatives and most of America yawned. The left is having a MELTDOWN. Her statement was a "spectacular intersectionality fail", whatever that is. The left is eating its own, it's sad and also hilarious to watch. But then there's our side. A group who KNOWS about culture, and fighting for conservatism in that arena, has chosen to spend their time and treasure on an effort that is seriously misguided. Just a very sad waste of precious resources. We do have to call out our own when they make mistakes - because we want them to do better. We close with a truly terrifying story about a band of wild youths, and really bad weather, and shut ins, and no school, and crazy youth taking full advantage of the cover of darkness to do something unexpected. Dishonesty ended up being the running theme through this week's podcast. The denial side of it is dangerously evident in the speeches we get from the State Department - Marie Harf saying that #Jobs4Jihadis would fix things better than just killing them all. Old media - they're not just biased, they're also dishonest. We talk about the Brian Williams issue, what it means for the media in general, and more importantly, how we can work around it. How can conservatives capitalize on the loss of trust and growing understanding of media bias. New medai, the ability to reach anyone, anywhere, usually for free works to our advantage. We have to use it.
