RB198: Most Health Research is Wrong (Humble Yourself)
“Show me the peer-reviewed research” is no longer a viable question. It’s not possible to sufficiently validate research and so much of the published research is highly problematic, can’t be replicated, and is often misinterpreted. What’s the solution? The solution is to humble yourself. You should have some humility and so should I. Most importantly, though, the “experts” and policy makers need to find some humility so that we stop imposing errors on other people by force which often leads to massively destructive consequences. RB188: The Day My Dogma Died
This is the most important podcast episode to ever be recorded in this industry. The reason there's so much confusing and conflicting information in the health and fitness industry is because most of the information in this industry is dispensed by dogmatic thinkers who are very quick to make "truth claims" and who are way too confident in their beliefs. People become dogmatic and "objectivist" for various reasons... For some, it's because they spend tens of thousands of dollars being "educated" on these topics. For others, it's because they've spent hours and hours pouring over "research" and "doing their due diligence." And for the majority, it's just because they fall victim to basic cognitive biases and they feel more comfortable believing they've found the answers instead of remaining agnostic. All dogma died for me a couple years ago when I came across the work of historian and University professor, Thaddeus Russell. It was especially his critiques of objectivism that convinced me to be agnostic on everything. Not at first, mind you, but after months and months of analyzing his arguments. Today I'm going to share with you a story that illustrates just how dangerous and absurd "truth claims" can be. And with any luck, this might be the day dogma dies inside of you, as well.

What better way to kickoff a bitter cold Sunday morning than by talking about the warmth provided by 9 SMART options on the Dunkin' Donuts menu? Now, I know what you're thinking... "Has Kevin gone mad? Smart options at Dunkin' Donuts?" But, see, maybe you just don't have any faith in DD – or me for that matter. I know for a fact these 9 options are SMART because it says "SMART" right there in the name... They even registered a trademark for it, which tells me they're superduperserious. And they always write it in all caps, which means it's so important that they always have to shout it. Trust me on this – I looked into the details. They've taken recommendations straight from the playbook of registered dietitians all over the country... "Foods and Beverages with the DDSMART® logo are Reduced in calories, fat, saturated fat, sugar or sodium by at least 25% compared to a base product or other appropriate reference product." See that. They get the white coat stamp of approval! You can also rest assured that these products are going to nourish you at the cellular level. Look at this... "Foods and Beverages with the DDSMART® logo contain an ingredient or nutrient that is nutritionally beneficial." Now, I know what you're thinking... "Kevin, they could literally say that about any food, anywhere, ever." Nonsense. Stop trying to derail my email with facts. The point here is that Dunkin' Donuts has 9 SMART options like: Blueberry muffins Multigrain bagels Oatmeal with as much sugar as a can of coke. English muffins Turkey sausage flatbread Egg & Cheese Muffin Ham, Egg, & Cheese Muffin Veggie Egg White Flatbread Egg & Cheese Quesadilla Thanks to these SMART changes by DD, you'll never have to worry about actual food overtaking processed grains in your daily eating ever again. The bad news here is that I really don't know how my Total Body Reboot program is going to compete with this kind of stuff. I mean, there's no longer any real reason to actually nourish your body with real food, functional movement, etc. You just choose SMART options at Dunkin' Donuts and you're home free. Today we are going to talk about how to stop eating junk food without using willpower and I'm going to give you 11 tips for doing this. Now, the reason I'm doing this podcast is because it's answering a question that we hear all the time. "How do I stop eating junk food? How do I stop eating junk food? How do I stop eating junk food?" All across the world people are waking up every single day with the best of intentions. Except, they get foiled by junk food over and over and over again. It's so bad that it actually starts to get comical after a while. People are going to bed on Sunday night saying, "This is going to be a great week. I'm going to be so on point!" And by Monday at 11 a.m. they're already off track. I'm sure this has happened to you, hasn't it? Now, the conventional advice says, "You need more willpower. You need more discipline." I disagree.
