January 2023 Firearms News
Kicking the new year off with an episode about firearms news, right in line with Shot Show 2023 going on at the same time. This is not detailed coverage it is just a collection of news stories we deem important, silly, or cool enough to talk about. The Ready Room podcast is going to be releasing much more content in 2023 than we did in 2022, including videos. So, enjoy the episode, leave any feedback you see fit, and prepare for a good year for content consumption. Make sure to leave a review and check out TBR Gunworks on social media. Don't forget that if you suggest a podcast topic idea and it gets chosen you will get a shout-out on that episode.

Get Educated
I know it's been a long time since we released a new episode but here we are! This episode goes out to a listener named Levi who suggested the topic. I am a man of my word and since he suggested a great episode topic he is being shouted out! Make sure you follow TBR Gunworks on Instagram, Facebook, and give the Podcast a review! We also upload to Youtube, with hopefully more actual videos coming in the future.Today's topic is about what to look for in a good Gunsmithing school and other ways to learn how to be a Gunsmith. There are good and bad traits at schools that will act as red or green flags. You want to make sure that you spend your money, or your GI Bill, at a school that is going to be teaching you solid information. So, what do you look for? We are going over just that in this episode, but we're also going to go over some alternative options. You don't always need a degree to do a good job, and having a degree doesn't automatically make you qualified or even good at your job.  Not all firearms are the same, not all schools are the same, and the trade world is full of people who didn't need a degree to get where they got.

Is The 1911 Outdated?
Today we want to discuss whether or not the 1911 platform is outdated by modern standards. The 1911 pistol has seen more combat around the world than any other handgun, as far as current information can tell. But, as times change so do standards for a viable handgun. What makes a handgun viable for combat, or shooting sports, or even for concealed carry? And what factors play into a firearm being considered outdated? Hopefully we answer all of those question to an acceptable level in today's episode.Remember, if you enjoy this episode please leave a review on whatever podcast site you use to listen. And if you're watching on Youtube feel free to subscribe and leave a like to help us push the podcast to more listeners and viewers. We want to spread information to as many people as possible, for free. Make sure you check out the social media profiles on Instagram and Facebook under TBR Gunworks. We hope you enjoy!

Lessons Learned Running A Shop
Today I wanted to go over some things that I wish were explained to me in detail before I opened my own gunsmithing shop. These are mostly lessons that I learned the hard way, and I'm telling you know so you don't have to. Running a shop where people bring you their own personal firearms can be stressful, and it's not the most profitable business on the market. So, making sure you're not wasting your money is very important. We don't want to take advantage of customers but we need to make sure we are actually making a profit, or you will not make it long.I was once told that there is no such thing as a business being stagnant. You're either growing as a business or failing, stagnation is death. So, where can you make sure you're making your profit and growing? How do you improve your skills to accept a wider variety of jobs? Should you refuse certain jobs? We're going to go over these questions in this episode. Another thing that was left out of the episode was that you should know your limitations, do not take a job that you know you're not even close to ready for. Hopefully whoever reads this description hears that and understands that. There is nothing wrong turning down a job because you know you'll end up over your head, out of money, and possibly damaging a customers firearm. I hope all of you enjoy the episode, and I want to say thank you to everyone who left a review, visited the social media, or sent an email with feedback. You are much appreciated!

Understanding Triggers and Trigger Upgrades
Today I wanted to go into some general details about firearm triggers. This episode is meant to help not only the new firearms enthusiast but also your average gun guy or gal. Understanding different stages of a trigger will help you understand what needs to be replaced if something breaks, or what to change if you want to modify your trigger, or even how to simply describe to a gunsmith what you think could be better with your trigger. Clarifying terminology and general information about triggers should help most firearm owners at some point in their life. Here at TBR Gunworks we want to help everyone interested in firearms learn more and understand more about firearms, however we can. A knowledgeable community is a better community. So, we wanted to break down how you can improve your striker fired handgun trigger, or your 1911 trigger, and what needs to be done to improve and target individual stages of a trigger function. Sorry about the wait, enjoy the episode.

What To Look For In An AR-15!
Today we go over what originally seemed to be an easy and simple topic but quickly turned into a relatively detailed episode. We want to explain some interesting qualities to look for when you're either building or buying an AR-15. If you're looking for a rifle that will be a good "Duty Rifle" or a firearm that you can bet your life on, what do you look for? There are certain qualities and aspects to think about not only in the materials used in the firearm components but also the different options that would change the role the rifle would fill.Hang in there as it can get pretty detail oriented, because this episode could be a good reference to go back to when you get around to building or buying an AR-15 that you need to be reliable and durable. We also address where you can afford to save some money, and what components you shouldn't skimp on. Hopefully you find this episode to be helpful and enjoyable. TBR Gunworks guests on The Moderate Grey - Gun Cast
This is an episode from the The Moderate Grey, a libertarian podcast. The hosts from The Moderate Grey were nice enough to share the file so it could also be uploaded on The Ready Room. We did run into technical difficulties during recording, but it was a live stream so they could not be fixed in order to "re-record". The audio does get better once the issues were found and corrected, so please tough it out to make it to the better sections. In this episode we talk about firearm ownership, legalities, motivation, duty, and politics. We do not agree on everything but these are the kinds of conversations we should be having. If we don't talk about issues, ideas, philosophies, and policies then our divide will only grow. Please look past the technical difficulties and enjoy the actual conversation. Make sure to go and follow or subscribe to The Moderate Grey Podcast, and check out their other episodes.Thank you for listening.

What Comes Next For America?
Today we discuss the question "What Comes Next For America?" There are a lot of problems around the world and America is not exempt from having its own problems. A lot of people find conversations about politics, ideology, or morals, to be uncomfortable. But, sometimes the uncomfortable conversations and topics are the most important. This podcast may be a firearms focused podcast, but there are an innumerable amount of factors that play into not only the firearms world but also the rest of every day life.If you don't know what's going on in the world, or your country, or even your local community, you are doing you and your family a disservice. It is your responsibility to do as much as you can to take care of yourself and those you care about. Ignoring a problem will not make it go away, but instead it will fester until it can no longer be ignored. Often if you wait until this point it is already too late. Don't be the person that waits until it's too late to start caring. Learn to think critically about the things that affect your life. And that includes paying attention to the things going on in your country, in your children's school, and in your local politics. Thinking about these things don't make you paranoid, it makes you AWARE.

Gunsmiths of America - Feat. Fisher T&C
Chase Fisher from Fisher T&C joins us today for our second episode of Gunsmiths of America. We talk about a range of topics from advice for new gunsmiths, to precision barrel making. Chase Fisher is a Gunsmith who specializes in precision barrel making and Pre-Fit barrels. He's been in the industry for a while now and wants to share some of the experience he's got under his belt. Chase will also be joining us for a later episode where we go more in depth with machining, chambering, and precision. The Gunsmiths of America series is here to get the names out of other Gunsmiths and help customers find solid Gunsmiths in their area. Many people believe the trade is dying, but we're here to show you that it's not. Chase Fisher is located in Montana so if anybody in Montana was looking for barrel work they now have someone they can call. We should all be helping each other out and showing that the trade is alive and well, it just doesn't receive the attention it deserves. So, hang out, listen or watch, and enjoy!

U.S. Service Rifles Part 2
We're going to be talking about United States military service rifles starting from World War One. We're giving slightly in depth, but not too in depth, information on the rifles used to fight and win wars. We're starting from WWI simply because we find that time frame and up to be more interesting. There was also a large boom in technological development due to the two World Wars that rocketed firearms technology into the modern times.  This is Part 2 of the mini series and starts at the M14 Battle Rifle and ends with the multiple variants of the M16 platform. You know we weren't going to actually leave the M14 hanging at the end of Part 1, just an inside joke here at TBR Gunworks. We give the M14 a lot of grief here but we start this episode out by giving you some more information on the platform as a service rifle. So please enjoy, leave a review and subscribe on YouTube or your favorite podcast site.

U.S. Service Rifles Part 1
Starting from the Springfield M1903 we'll be working our way up to the modern age. This is part 1 of a 2 part series ending at the Pre-Vietnam war Era. Our next episode will be part 2 and will end with the most up to date service rifles. Remember, we're only speaking on Standard Issue Service Rifles. No machine gun, Sub-Machine gun, or handgun conversations here. If you would like us to do some episodes on other Service firearms let us know. We really hope you enjoy!

Ammunition Selection
Today I would like to help out anybody who may be newer to the firearms community. What ammunition works best for hunting or self-defense? What ammunition should you use when you're just shooting at the range for practice? What ammunition should you look into if you're getting into precision shooting? This stuff can get confusing, and it's not your fault. There have never been more ammunition options than now, so we want to help anybody out that may have some questions about this topic. We also want to help people identify the correct ammunition they should purchase. There are different methods for measuring or naming a cartridge and this leads to things like there being over a dozen "9mm" cartridges, which obviously can get confusing as well. So, we're going to give some basic information on how to properly identify ammunition and purchase the correct type for your firearm. We want every gun owner to be safe, knowledgeable, and feel welcome in the community. Hope you enjoy!

Gunsmiths of America - Feat. Zeb Gunmaking
This episode kicks off a mini series within The Ready Room podcast called "Gunsmiths of America". The point of this mini series is to promote the Gunsmithing and Gunmaking trade. Many people believe that the trade is dead but this is far from the truth. We will be bringing on many Gunsmiths or Gunmakers to show everyone that the trade is alive, there are a variety of people involved in the trade, and now is as good a time as ever to get involved if it interests you! Zeb Gunmaking is the first guest in this mini series. Zeb is, at the time of this recording, the apprentice of an American Custom Gunmakers Guild member. She went to school for Gunsmithing and after graduating became the apprentice of a Gunmaker with 40 years of experience. She has been learning how to shape stocks, work on receivers and barrels, proper finishing techniques and her work shows. Zeb is evidence that you don't have to be an old man to get involved in the Gunmaking trade. She is also evidence that hard work and dedication REALLY pay off, as her finished work is worthy of admiration. We really hope you enjoy this new series and if you have any suggestion for other Gunsmiths or Gunmakers please message us on Instagram or our Website under the name.  Find Zeb on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/zebgunmaking/ or her website and Facebook under the same name.

A logical thinker, someone well versed in theology, and very knowledgeable on the bible itself but also where context matters most and where original translations matter. Are Firearms Political?
The United States has a long history involving firearms and now they are the topic of constant online and public debates. There is an industry built around firearms making up a massive amount of jobs and businesses. From attachments to barrel lengths Americans are taxed or restricted all across the way. For a "Free Country" it sure is difficult to live freely. And for a country with the most clear and concise law regarding firearms, the Second Amendment, our rights sure are infringed on. Today we answer the question "Are Firearms Political?" and the answer may or may not surprise you.

Overrated Cartridges
In the 10th episode of our podcast, we celebrate surpassing 100 downloads on podcast sites, and finally come back to the firearm cartridge topic. Our first episode was on underrated cartridges and now we're going to give you a conversation about some overrated firearm cartridges. Some of these may upset viewers but remember two things. 1. It's just our opinion, and 2. It's just for fun. Do what you like, shoot what you want, and enjoy every second of it! We’re simply going to talk about 5 cartridges that we deem to be slightly overrated, and in some instances ONLY overrated in one area. We hope you enjoy the content as much as we enjoy making it for you!
