Ep 178: House Regrets & Dating Roulette
Today, we've got a juicy combo for you: nightmare DIY renovations and the struggle to find authenticity in the dating world. Picture this: moving into a new condo only to find baseboards missing, floorboards not reaching the wall, and random objects super glued together. Oh, and let's not forget the surprise hole above the fridge cleverly hidden by a decorative item. Talk about a disaster! On top of that, we'll dive into the dating scene where it feels like everyone's trying to sell you a curated version of themselves. Authenticity? It's like finding a needle in a haystack. So, grab a cup of coffee and join us!! Stay tuned, it's always a wild ride! You never know what these two will say!! ***CLEANSING BREATH*** Jess Corner - Animal Instincts Philly's 'Chicken Man' declines PETA's vegan challenge after a 40-day rotisserie chicken binge South Philadelphia resident Alexander Tominsky was dubbed the "Chicken Man" after successfully eating an entire rotisserie chicken every day for 40 days straight. Since concluding his chicken run, Tominsky, 31, has begun spotlighting organizations that help provide food for those in need. On Wednesday, he promoted the South Philly Community Fridge on Twitter, asking his followers to donate to combat food insecurity. The South Philly Community Fridge later tweeted it had raised $858 that day. Dana Corner - What the What? https://www.centredaily.com/news/state/pennsylvania/article275414796.html For teddy bears and all other stuffed toys in Pennsylvania, it’s not easy being green. In fact, it’s impossible. Under a 62-year-old law, all stuffed toys distributed and sold in this state are required to be made from new material. But now a state senator is looking to lift a restriction that hamstrings manufacturers and retailers in the toy business. “It is a pretty obscure law and people say ‘wait, what? We have a stuffed toy law?’ In fact, we do,” he said “Obviously in 1961, they did not particularly contemplate people using recycled materials in stuffed toys.” But given that recycled material goes through the same extensive testing and safety review to ensure it meets all of the current industry standards that new materials do and couple that with people’s desire to be environmentally conscious, he said it may well be time to update the law as the Toy Association has requested. Hickcox said her association would like to see this law updated by the end of this year. “Toy association members want to be good stewards of the environment while following all state laws and regulations,” Hickcox said. “This update will allow manufacturers and retailers to ensure a global supply chain while producing safe, sustainable stuffed toys.” Jess Rave - Used bookstores/record shops Webster's of State College PA Vintage Shop, dirt cheap books, great albums, cafe, live music, vegan brunch on Sundays Dana Rave - Dunkin' Iced Coffee Day is today May 23! On this week's episode, we delve into some truly terrifying topics. First up, we discuss the horror that is Lava Lamp Finger Nails. Yes, you heard that right - nails that glow in the dark and look like they contain liquid. We shudder at the thought. And if that's not scary enough, we also tackle the trauma of the "Get In Shape Girl" exercise kit from our childhoods. "When history looks back," Wiesenthal explained, "I want people to know the Nazis weren’t able to kill millions of people and get away with it." His work stands as a reminder and a warning for future generations. Very few of the prisoners survived the westward trek through Plaszow, Gross-Rosen and Buchenwald, which ended at Mauthausen in upper Austria. Weighing less than 100 pounds and lying helplessly in a barracks where the stench was so strong that even hardboiled SS guards would not enter, Wiesenthal was barely alive when Mauthausen was liberated by the 11th Armored Division of the Third U.S. Army on May 5, 1945. As soon as his health was sufficiently restored, Wiesenthal began gathering and preparing evidence on Nazi atrocities for the War Crimes Section of the United States Army. After the war, he also worked for the Army's Office of Strategic Services and Counter-Intelligence Corps and headed the Jewish Central Committee of the United States Zone of Austria, a relief and welfare organization. Late in 1945, he and his wife, each of whom had believed the other to be dead, were reunited, and in 1946, their daughter Pauline was born. Take a breathtaking journey through dramatic events in 20th century history. Learn what leads people to hate, and how ordinary people have changed the world one extraordinary action at a time. Today, the public has come to view the MOT not only as a symbol of society’s quest to live peacefully together, but also as an important resource on how to achieve that goal.

However, unused and expired medications must be properly discarded so that they do not pose a risk to others. According to the National Community Pharmacists Association, an estimated 200 million pounds of unused or expired prescription drugs are stored in medicine cabinets across America. This situation provides easy access and an opportunity for the abuse of these medications by others for whom they were not intended. In LA County from 2000 to 2009, there were 8,265 drug-related deaths. Public health statistics show that 61 percent of those deaths involved a commonly abused prescription or over-the-counter drug. Of note, nearly 75 percent of residents who misuse prescription drugs obtain them from relatives or friends. Deaths and illnesses caused by the abuse of prescription opioids are of national concern. The number of deaths each year from prescription opioids is now greater than the deaths from heroin, cocaine, and benzodiazepine drugs combined. * Your local Pharmacy * https://www.stericycle.com/en-us/solutions/specialty-services/seal-send-medication-in-home-medication-return *https://www.safemedicinedisposal.org/mailback-envelopes

So they walked in New York Fashion Week's first Survivor Fashion Show, where rape survivors walked the runway in the outfit they were raped in to reclaim and rebuke the stigma around "What were you wearing?" They invited diplomats from around the world and they came. Almost exactly a year later, the United Nations Survivor Rights Resolution was passed. The resolution, co-sponsored by 84 countries and led by Sierra Leone, was passed Friday. Dana Rant - from a listener Briana Hey Ladies! I'm so glad you're back! I have a rant that hopefully at least one other person can relate to. I'm getting married in March and I'm at the point in planning where I have a new task for the wedding almost every day. One task that I HATE is tracking people down for an RSVP. I don't understand how someone can get an invite to a (hopefully) once in a lifetime event with free food and drinks and go, 'mm...let me think about it." And then wait for so long that I have to ask again and again and AGAIN! Like, what!? I sent out official invites SEVEN MONTHS AGO! And I started telling people almost a year ago! You should know by now! And just let me know! Why is it so hard?? I shouldn't have to track you down. Anyway, I could rant about all the annoying wedding behavior I've experienced over the last year but I won't. Thank you both for being so lovely and such a delight. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and are a small group of people who are passionate about reptiles, their care, and educating the public on these amazing creatures. We take in sick, injured, and abandoned pet reptiles and work with local veterinarians to get them the care they need and eventually adopt them out into good, loving homes. We are an all volunteer organization and we foster all rescues from our own homes. We depend solely on donations to fund our organization, so we often have to dip into our own personal money to care for some of our most dire cases. We are located in VA, but work with organizations and people in both VA and NC. We are always in need of donations and foster parents! We also travel to local events with our ambassador animals and teach children and adults about these animals, including their proper care and how and where they live in the wild. It is very important to us that people understand that these are not throwaway pets, and that they deserve the same level of love and care as more "traditional" pets do. We primarily operate out of eastern VA, so if you are in the area and would like to schedule an event for a girl/boy scout troop, church event, school, etc., please reach out and we will be happy to work with you! We charge a nominal fee for our education events. You can reach us at email@example.com and can also find us on Facebook and Instagram at ReptileVA or Reptile Education of Virginia. We have our adoptable pets posted on both social media pages! If you would like to donate, you can do so through our website at www.reptileva.org :) If you are in the area and are interested in fostering, please email or message us to go through the vetting process. We will adopt out of state, but we don't ship our animals, so adoptees must be willing to travel to pick up their new pet :) We hope to one day live in a world where reptiles are no longer neglected and abandoned, and we believe that education is paramount to achieving that goal! Many Americans, think of these families in their communities, and wonder: What can I do to help? What began as one mom helping another mom turned into a nonprofit organization serving over 250 families (1,500 individuals!) -- mostly families with young kids resettling in America from Syria, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq and Yemen. Ep 160: TMI & More
We are baaaack!!! This week the ladies rant about postoffice smells and how 20/20 news is trying to confuse us. ****CLEANSIING BREATH***** Jess Corner - Hollywood Jess recalls when she dressed inappropriately for Marilyn Manson and as a result was mistaken, twice, for a lady of the night. Dana Corner - Kids Are Amazing Teens who are turning away from their phones Jess Rave - La Colombe Monaco Coffee and unstuck.org Together with Unstuck and our suppliers, we are helping to create jobs for refugees. The Columbian coffee beans in this producct are sourced from a producer hiring Venezuelan refugees. Refugees are often “stuck” - unable to put down roots where they’ve fled to - and mostly unable to go back to the places they once called home. Jobs allow refugees to start a new chapter - one with commutes, coworkers, and community vs. instability, shelters and aid. Jobs are the first step in refugees becoming UNSTUCK. Our first coalition of brand partners are working with suppliers hiring Venezuelan refugees in Colombia and Peru. More than 6 million Venezuelans (over 20% of the population) — have been forced to flee their country due to violence, political repression, and economic collapse. We are currently working with 6 supplier partners that have committed to hiring refugees so they make up 20% of their workforce by 2025. By the end of our first year, over 300 refugees will have decent, legal jobs with our suppliers - and we’ve only just begun. As we work with more suppliers, in more countries and more brands - creating more products bought by more people - this number will continue to grow! Dana Rave - Dudes For Dads is a Nonprofit Organization built by a group of men from Arlington, VA, and the University of Miami who either lost their father figure or never had one. Fueled by our Dads' lessons of service and compassion, we formed the organization to help guide younger boys who never had a father figure or those that lost theirs recently. The organization connects people who have gone through the loss of a father figure and guides them throughout the process. Dudes For Dads is committed to helping cover tangible and intangible experiences that come with the loss of a father. We’ve partnered with Big Brother Big Sister of the National Capital Area, which has served at-risk youth through comprehensive and enduring mentoring relationships in the DC, MD, and VA areas since 1949. Dudes For Dads plans to be an established nonprofit after our first fundraiser **We mentioned our friend, Artemis Pebdani, as a good resource to keep up and find ways to help with what is happening in Iran. Her handle is @therealshmartemis on Instagram. We here at The Rants and Raves Podcast support #NoToExecutionsInIran

Ep 159: ”Screw” You, Unicorns Do Exist
This week Dana was back on set while Jessica showed her ass at the opera. We learn that Dana is the glowworm to Jessica's cake pop. Wonder why people unscrew condiments and spices on restaurant tables, so does Dana. Enjoy having to fight for your rights as an insured medical patient, neither does Jessica! Kids are Amazing Corner is a letter written by a young girl requesting permission to house a magical being and the city employee who treated the child's imagination with the utmost respect. What the What Corner is a man who seemed crazy for complaining he gets paid by his employer to do nothing, until we realized it is a result of him whistle blowing some shady business. Rave #1 is Lizzo, and her selfless act of forgoing a speech upon receiving a People's Choice Award and calling out trailblazing women making a true difference in this world. Rave #2 is Goodnight Girls, a campy bedtime story about the Golden Girls. 1% of proceeds from this book will be donated to the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation which gives Canadian high-needs elementary schools funds to purchase the books and educational resources they need.
