Ep #226 -It's time for Part 2 of my two part interview with Joel Manby, the former President, CEO and Director of SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment. This week on the show, Joel and I discuss leadership and specifically what he learned while managing SeaWorld through a crisis and transformation series.

As the head of SeaWorld, he controlled a $1.4 billion entertainment company with well-known brands such as SeaWorld Parks, Bush Gardens Parks and Discovery Cove. For over a decade, Joel also served as President & CEO of Herschend Enterprises, the largest family-owned theme park and entertainment company in the United States with popular brands such as the Harlem Globetrotters and Dolly Parton’s Dollywood theme park.

Even further back, Joel spent 20 years in the auto industry in general management and marketing roles, primarily in General Motors’ Saturn and Saab divisions. Joel served as CEO of Saab Automobile USA from 1996 to 2000, during which Saab experienced the best sales result in its 50+ year U.S. history. In addition, he was CEO of Amazon’s car selling partner, which was sold to CarsDirect.com in 2001.

Joel received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.S. from Albion College. As valedictorian of Albion College, Joel was a Rhodes scholarship finalist, academic all-American and two sport collegiate athlete. Joel is currently the non-executive Chairman of Orange, a non-profit organization dedicated to the development and distribution of student, youth, and next generation curriculum to over 7,000 churches in 40+ countries. He has held that position for over 20 years. In addition to his duties as chairman of Orange, Joel consults and speaks around the world on the topic of leadership, the story of leading during SeaWorld's transformation and on his book, "Love Works."

Manby wrote “Love Works" to describe how to integrate “love the verb” into the leadership ethos and philosophy of any organization. This approach has been systematically proven to create organizations with lower turnover, higher employee engagement, more satisfied customers, and stronger profits. "Love Works" has sold over 100,000 copies since its’ release, and a new expanded and updated version is being released in 2020.

This is an incredibly accomplished guest with a mountain of corporate leadership experience at the highest level. Enjoy PART 2 of my interview with Mr. Joel Manby.
