Aprille Janes: Take a Chance and Let Life Unfold – TPS447
After a successful career as an I.T. consultant to Fortune 500 companies, Aprille Janes removed her “corporate suit” to follow a more creative path. Today she lives in Nova Scotia, Canada, painting and teaching in her studio overlooking the Bay of Fundy. Highlights Aprille shares the Canadian view of what’s happening now in the United States. When Aprille left corporate, she and her husband were willing to take a chance and let their future unfold. She shares how they dealt with the uncertainty and talks about the synchronistic things that happened. The process Aprille went through learning to trust her inner direction. Skill and intuition have to be combined to develop inspired creation. Aprille’s path has been one of exploration without having a definite end in mind. We all have pain, we just choose whether we suffer. Living a quiet, peaceful life, couldn’t have happened for Aprille when she was younger. We need the contrast between light and dark. Does it take time – and years of experience – to reach a point of acceptance? The Covid pause is allowing us to reevaluate what’s important to us. This is a time of choice – which side do you want to be on? The chaos of the “insurrection” was a definite wake-up call for a lot of people. Most of the people outside of the United States who are watching what’s going on are praying that democracy stands. People are ready to be heard. Fear of the unknown will paralyze us; trust lets us keep going. We talk about the value of gratitude. What can you be thankful for today? A lot of the conflict we’re seeing now is caused, in part, by feelings of powerlessness. Seeing that we have choices as to how we respond gives us back our power. David Howitt: Combining Spirituality with Business – TPS446
David M. Howitt is the founder & CEO of Meriwether Group and author of Heed Your Call and an inspiring thought leader and accomplished entrepreneur. David has over twenty years of experience providing financial, strategic, and brand counseling to early stage, and Fortune 100 companies. He has the unique ability to integrate vision and growth strategies with mission and purpose. Highlights David is a big fan of Joseph Campbell and The Hero’s Journey. As a young boy, David had the urge to explore beyond the limited world he knew but avoided following that urge to explore. After getting married, having children, and working for years as an attorney, he knew he had to move in a new direction. The business owners that David works with are able to integrate their spiritual lives with their business. He talks about the power of and rather than the power of or. We talk about what it is that allows one person to move out of the “abyss” and move forward rather than staying stuck where they have been. When you let go of what you think you should be and discover who must be that’s when synchronicity can happen and unexpected doors will open for you. When he interviewed hospice workers, the number one regret that they heard from people on their deathbed was that they lived the life that other people wanted them to live. There is a paradigm shift happening where younger people are beginning to understand that they don’t have to suffer to be considered a productive member of society. They are more interested in experiences than acquiring more things. Sometimes we have to follow the wrong path to discern what the right path is for us. We repair the world by following the “breath of God” that resides within us. The question is, “How do we create the world that we really want?” David talks about how the Meriwether Group helps people discover how they can become co-creators of their perfect life and lead from a place of intentionality. We are now seeing the integration of Eastern and Western philosophy, of left brain and right brain, of artistry and analytics and that the magic happens with the integration of the ashram and the boardroom. The beauty is in letting go. Links David’s Site David's Facebook Page LinkedIn The Truth of You Shall Set You Free

Conscious Synchronicity – TPS445
This past Sunday, I gave a talk at The Celebration, the spiritual group I belong to and thought you might like to hear it. I’ve been interested in the idea of synchronicity for a long time and I shared some of my thoughts about it in this episode. If you have stories about your experience with synchronicity, I’d love to hear about them. You can email them to Joan at ProsperityPlace.com.

The Truth of You Shall Set You Free – TPS444
I recently woke up with the word “truth” sounding loudly in my mind which led me to think about truth – a lot – and how I might talk about it on a podcast episode. Because we have been going through a period of a lot of not truth I’ve been pondering what we miss when we don’t tell the truth. I discuss it in this episode. Highlights I ask, “Why the advantage of telling the truth or the truth of you?” Years ago, I committed to tell the truth all the time. It is really difficult. People often exaggerate in order to make a better impression, which makes it difficult to tell if they’re telling the truth or not. I talk about all the claims made in commercials that I perceive is not being true. We’re becoming adapted to alternative realities and “alternative truth”. In order to connect to your truth, you have to develop a certain amount of intuition. To develop self-awareness, you need to be able to learn to travel into the depths of yourself. We sometimes think that people who display a lot of self-confidence no more than we do. As children, we often suppressed ourselves because it appeared to be safer. Every time you adjust your truth, you're slowing down the process of finding out who you are becoming. Humans are complicated, and finding our own path is complicated because we have to overcome a lot of the messages we got as children. We tend to not honestly express our emotions. I talk about the nuances that are sometimes necessary when telling the truth. What are the things that you think about but never talk to other people about? What is it that separates you from other people that you never talk about? I talk about my invisible disability and how I have kept it hidden. But I now see that I’m actually holding myself back by doing this. Whatever you are thinking is limiting you may be what you’re identifying as a disability. If you have a physical disability, that’s not something that’s wrong with you, it’s just something you have to deal with. Each of us is separate, unique, and valuable. You can’t understand your value to the greater society, if you’re thinking that you’re less-than. What is it about you that you consider something that holds you back? That would be what you perceive to be your disability. That is the truth of you and your life doesn’t have to be diminished because of it. The truth of you shall set you free. There’s nothing wrong with you that needs fixing. You just have habitual thoughts beliefs and emotions that may need to change. And you can do that. Dr. Gary McGrath: Leadership and Emotional Intelligence – TPS443
Dr. Gary McGrath’s mission is to make Good Bosses into Great Leaders with Compassionate Accountability. His company is STATARIUS which is Latin for ‘to stand firm’ where he and his team of Statarians DEVELOP Leadership - they don’t just train leaders. He served our country as an officer in the United States Army where he commanded 102 soldiers at the age of 25. He is the author of two books, a Certified Speaking Professional with the National Speakers Association, and a meditation instructor. After living in nine states and two foreign countries, Dr. Gary has settled in Raleigh, NC. Highlights Gary shares his journey to learning about emotional intelligence. The only two characteristics of leadership effectiveness are emotional intelligence and cognitive judgment. In business, we often don’t understand the importance of emotions and leadership. Four parts of emotional intelligence are self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management. Emotional intelligence means being able to tell – in the moment – how you are feeling and how someone you’re talking to is feeling. Without emotional intelligence, you are trying to build your business as a manager, not a leader. Gary defines leadership. Typically, men have low self-awareness and high self-management. Women tend to have high self-awareness. Gary explains the brain science behind this phenomenon. If a man tells a woman, “you’re being too emotional”, he is actually insulting her biology. Men basically have two emotions – happy and pissed. 85% of performance problems at work are about problems outside of work. Our emotional state at work is impacted by everything in our life. The only way we can truly show someone we care is by understanding their emotions. Emotional intelligence is often thought of as a soft skill, but it is not. It’s hard. Every decision that you make is an emotional one. Links Dr. Gary on LinkedIn Dr. Gary’s Site Emotional Intelligence 2.0 – by Travis Bradberry and Jean Graves

Money & Emotions – A Novel Approach – TPS442
When most podcasters talk about money and emotions, they talk about how people feel about their money. My approach is quite different in that I look at the emotions you are acting out through your money. In this episode, I talk about how what you feel when dealing with money is never about money – and what it is about. Highlights You can use your money feelings to understand your emotional makeup. If you are afraid of running out of money, that indicates that you are feeling alone. If you think you need more money, you are saying that you need more people because money is always attached to people. Feeling like there’s never enough means that you feel like not enough. Fear of losing what you have is often the result of abandonment stories. The idea is to recognize the feeling and express it. When you hear yourself thinking that you need more money, ask yourself, “What am I feeling?” How you were brought up – either in poverty or wealth – will affect your money emotions. If you let yourself deal with the feelings, you aren’t going to have to repeat the dramas. Learning how to manage cash flow can mollify financial fears. When you learn how to put off purchases, you can manage your money better. I talk about learning how to delay gratification. If you learn how to manage your need for gratification and your dopamine signals that you need more, you can feel better about yourself and your money. You can use the Covid pause to retrain your emotional responses. Focus on what you have, not what you don’t have. This is a good time to learn to recognize and deal with your emotions. Make New Choices in the New Year – TPS441
The new year is soon to be upon us. In this episode, I ask you to decide what choices you want to make in the new year as to who you want to be and what you want to be doing. What changes do you want to make? Highlights We have no idea what our lives or our world are going to look like in the coming year. There’s going to be a new normal, but we have no idea what normal is going to look like. Covid has given us the opportunity of reevaluating everything in our life. Do we really want to go back to what was, or do we want to create something new that is more satisfying? It’s hard to set goals when you have no idea what the future is going to look like. I suggest that instead of setting doing goals that you set feeling goals. The one thing that you have control over and the power to change is your internal environment. What we are all going through, provides us with the opportunity to ask who we want to be and what we want to change. Change is happening whether you wanted to or not. What is it that you can do to create some certainty for yourself? It is impossible to create specific goals when you have no idea what the external environment is going to be. I’m going to ask you – if you’re willing – to examine your internal environment and decide what choices for change you want to make in the new year. This is the time for choice. You are where you are because of the choices you have made and now you can make different choices that will allow you to move in a different direction. Every choice that you make has an emotional component. We have been given the opportunity, at this juncture in time, to examine our lives and make new choices. What will it take for you to be the best version of yourself today? If we all make changes together, it will affect the entire world. Jan Janzen: The Inner Approach to Selling – TPS440
Jan Janzen has been a serial entrepreneur for 40 years. She bought a franchise at just 19 years of age and since then has worked in a wide variety of industries from being president of a network marketing company to having three businesses in the automotive field to having a 6-figures healing practice. Jan's focus is helping women entrepreneurs fall in love with the sales process so they can earn the money they need in their businesses so they can take care of themselves and make the difference they are here to make in the world. Highlights Jan shares her unusual background in sales as a Jehovah's Witness where she learned how to accept rejection. Leaders often feel l like outsiders, which can be an asset. They also have to be their own person. We talk about how Jan presents the idea of sales to people who might be repulsed by the idea of selling. Jan explains why she doesn’t use high-testosterone words like prospect, close, or filling the pipeline. Women are usually really good at sales and outsell men by 11%, even though they break many of the rules. Women entrepreneurs outsell men, but they earn less because they often under-price their services. Jan talks about money mindset and the assessment she uses to measure where a person is vis-à-vis money. She explains the idea of money archetypes. A person’s genetic coding can also affect financial behaviors. Changing your money mindset requires more than learning financial skills. The inner work has to be done. I asked Jan how she helps people overcome their money mindset blocks. Women often don’t see the value that they bring. Jan explains how she teaches women to overcome this. Jan talks about dealing with the objection, “I can’t afford it” and how to discover if a potential client is a good fit for you. People often rush through a sales conversation because they don’t like doing it. There are various techniques that Jan uses to help people gain the confidence needed in order to sell. Your internal habits and self-concept can affect your ability to sell. We talk about the elements that can come into play. Our tribal programming can keep us from reaching our next income level. How to Become an Agent for Peace – TPS439
In this episode, I talk about the feelings stimulated by the election in the US. Lots of people are angry, which can cause all sorts of physical problems. We all have a choice as to how we want to feel and who we want to be. Highlights If you are angry about the election, you have probably been angry all of your life – both individually and as a group. Ongoing anger will negatively affect your health. Heart attacks are often related to adrenaline responses. Many people are motivated by anger – which is not healthy. Do you want to be on the side of tension or release? Constant tension leads to physical problems. Who do you want to be and how do want your health to be? It’s a whole lot more comfortable to be on the peaceful side of life. Choosing to be a peaceful person will make your life more comfortable. Let’s connect through the light, not the darkness. You have a choice as to how you want to live your life and how you want to feel. You are not the victim of circumstances. Links Episode about Empathetic Detachment

Highlights Chad tells us how his childhood experience stimulated his ambitions. He was one of 10 children. Lessons learned in the service and in business helped him see that we have choices. Do we want to be a victim or victor? I don’t need your approval to recognize my self-worth. Discipline is important but so is the strength of your purpose. We talk about how to find your purpose. You have to have the courage to let go of what works for you and upgrade your identity. Do you know how you want to feel? We undervalue understanding our/mankind’s history. Are you comfortable being uncomfortable? During the covid experience we have choices as to how we are going to deal with it. Chad tells us to examine our emotions in order to find your purpose. Paul O’Brien – Using Synchronicity to Build Your Business – TPS437
Paul O’Brien is an entrepreneurial success story. He invented the category of divination software and created the world’s largest astrology and divination e-commerce business. He is also a philosopher, sought-after advisor, interview subject, and speaker, as well as the author of the award-winning book Intuitive Intelligence, and the Visionary I Ching app for smartphones. Highlights Synchronicity is all about perfect timing – being at the right place at the right time. Paul explains and relates it to intuition. The mastery is being able to make synchronicity happen using tools such as the I Ching. Become aware of when synchronicity happens. Paul tells a wonderful story about how synchronicity played a part in his starting his successful business. Paul believes that everything happens for a reason. Fear interferes with synchronicity. It’s important to be led by your heart. When money isn’t the focus, you have more opportunities to learn about yourself. Paul tells more stories about how synchronicity played a part in finding a perfect house and getting the perfect domains. The I Ching doesn’t care what you want to hear. The advantage of using the I Ching is that allows you to feel more connected to all that is. We talk about the hexagram Youthful Folly. How to Feel Safe in an Unsafe World – TPS436
Humans have an ingrained need to feel safe, which is difficult in the current environment. In this episode, I offer suggestions to help you create a habit of feeling safe. Highlights It’s pretty hard to feel safe when your world seems to be falling apart. Feeling safe is a matter of brain training. Safe is a feeling, not a situation. When I became aware of not feeling safe in certain situations I decided to teach myself to feel safe. First, have you ever felt safe? Sit still and do nothing and notice the busyness in your mind and make a decision that you will teach yourself to feel safe. Entrepreneurship often feels unsafe. Our brains are wired to always be looking for danger. It helps to assess the situation and re-perceive the situation. Out in nature is a good place to practice feeling safe. After you assess a situation, take a deep breath and determine what action you need to take, if any. I did a blog post about the value of imagining a positive future. Read it here. We will go through a difficult time as we transition out of COVID-19 into the future. Look inside your body and notice when you feel contracted. If you are worried about money, I offer some suggestions for getting beyond that. You can’t make good decisions when you are worried. No one else can help you feel safe. It’s a habit you have to develop. Links The Course: Simple Meditation for Busy Entrepreneurs The Holistic Prosperity Facebook Group

Visualization: Does it Work and If Not, Why Not? – TPS434
I recently saw a short video on LinkedIn that talked about visualization and it pushed some buttons for me. In this episode, I talk about my long experience with visualizations and what you can expect if you are using them as a technique for getting what you want. Highlights I share how I tried to use visualizations that didn’t work. Understandably. There are times when visualizations do work. What you are visualizing has to be in tune with your true path in life. I have faith that I’ll be led to what I need. Results with affirmations and visualizations will probably take longer than you want. You can’t control time. Learning how to wait is a useful skill to develop. I share a technique for doing this. Being in a hurry doesn’t work. You have to learn to deal with time. I discuss trying to “manifest” money, which involves other people’s behaviors. If you have a disappointment habit, your visualizations probably won’t work. You have to teach yourself how to feel satisfied—and safe. It’s important to get your feelings in the right place. Learning to manage money and cash flow is important if you want to create more money. I trust that whatever I’m going through is what I need to become who I’m becoming. The act of creating your life stories is probably going to take longer than you think. So you have to learn to wait. Links It’s Never About Money podcast episode Be Set Free Fast Basics download

Marina Bruni: Energetic DNA and the Choices You Make – TPS433
Dr. Marina Bruni trains her students to simultaneously shift from right-brain to left-brain and from left-brain to right-brain strategies. A dual-qualified lawyer and coach, she is a featured speaker in the sequel to The Secret,  How Thoughts Become Things.   As a Master of Neuro-Linguistic and Energy, Dr. Marina Bruni teaches how to activate your brain to tap into your energetic DNA, create more powerful choices, and design the outcome you want. She has shared stages with world-class speakers such as Sharon Lechter, Les Brown, and Jack Canfield to name a few. Highlights Marina discusses what she means by “energetic DNA” and why knowing about it is important. I ask how she defines prosperity and abundance because that is one of the main outcomes she is promoting. Being wealthy and being rich are two different things. Make sure that your definition of success is what you really want. How can a person determine what they want and how can they find their place of comfort in this chaotic world? Most people want to fit in, which makes it difficult for them to see things from a different perspective. Each of us attracts people who can best benefit from what we have to share. Coaches often want to work with people who mirror who they are. I ask how each of us determines our energetic DNA and if it changes over the years. We talk about how each of us has our own truth. The energetic DNA is not the same as our genetic DNA. When we make choices that are out of tune with our energetic DNA, it creates some blocks and negative patterns which make it difficult to tap into our own energetic qualities. Marina says that the only way to discover our energetic DNA is to have Marina do a reading. She explains what happens during one of her readings. The Value of Building a Network – TPS432
If you think you need more money, in reality, you need more people because money always comes from people. Because aloneness is one of the main emotions acted out through money. In this episode, I discuss how building a robust network can help overcome feelings of aloneness. Highlights Creating a network can be difficult because it means a change in behaviors. In business, you can be part of multiple networks. A business network can allow you to create a team of other professionals that you can use with your clients. I talk about the different networks I belong to. It takes time to adjust to the pace of a new network you are joining The organizations I belong to function on the give to get principles. If you are functioning by yourself, it’s difficult to build a successful business. I talk about the value of having a podcast and using social media to form different types of connections. The internet provides a lot of opportunities for connection, but you have to reach out and nurture relationships. The question is, how can you increase your network? I talk about some of the networking opportunities during the pandemic. Connection is one of the keys to business success. Try different groups in order to find one that might work for you. Dawson Church, Ph.D., is an award-winning science writer with three best-selling books to his credit: The Genie in Your Genes, Mind to Matter, and his latest, Bliss Brain which demonstrates that peak mental states rapidly remodel the brain for happiness. Dawson has conducted dozens of clinical trials and founded the National Institute for Integrative Healthcare to promote groundbreaking new treatments. He shares how to apply the breakthroughs of energy psychology to health and personal performance through EFTUniverse.com, one of the largest alternative medicine sites on the web. Highlights Many people are now open to expanding into new levels of consciousness. Studies have been done to document the brain-wave states that mystics reach via meditation. Dawson talks about losing his home in 2017 during the California fires and explains how people can use life’s tragedies to lead to Post Traumatic Growth. It takes a major crisis in a person’s life that leads them to make changes. He shares what led him to start meditating. Even a novice can be trained to reach the brain states of Zen masters. When people raise their brain states are they led to make other changes in their life? Dawson differentiates between seekers and finders. Childhood trauma has to be healed before you reach the highest states. When you are committed to meditation practice, synchronicity increases. People who are in sync with themselves become in sync with planetary pulses. If you are a resilient person, you see life’s difficulties from a solution-oriented point of view. Bob Miglani: Embrace the Chaos – TPS430
In this episode, Bob Miglani explains how chaos is opportunity in disguise. Bob is a keynote speaker, bestselling author, and Founder of Embrace the Chaos, an Experiential Change Company. He helps people and organizations change, transform and grow. Bob was born in poverty in India and grew up in the U.S. helping his family run their successful Dairy Queen franchise for 25 years. Bob had a successful 23-year corporate career in New York. While going through massive change in his job, Bob was able to adapt and reinvent himself to grow. His journey became the subject of his Washington Post bestselling book called Embrace the Chaos, inspiring others on how to embrace change in their job, career, business, and life. Today, Bob helps teams adapt to the post-pandemic world. Highlights Bob talks about how and why he got interested in embracing the chaos. You can’t control the chaos, so let go of the idea of controlling it. It’s important to learn how to deal with uncertainty. You can do this by creating some certainty for yourself. Instead of thinking of the worst that can happen, set a goal for yourself in the future that you can focus on. This is a good time to reinvent yourself and think about starting a business. We talk about how people can overcome their fear of the future. The chaos won’t go away, but you can control it better by controlling yourself. So much of what we do is habitual. Bob talks about breaking old patterns. Meditation can help you recognize the patterns. We talk about letting go and trusting that something will show up. To move forward, it helps to let go of the past. Opportunities can only come to an open hand. If you wait for perfection, you’ll get nowhere in life. Chaos is opportunity in disguise. Take Control of Your Health – TPS429
In this episode, I share my experience going through sepsis, a potentially fatal condition that I obviously survived. The experience has led me to do a lot of thinking about the frailties of our medical system and I share some of my thoughts with you. Highlights I share the harrowing experience I went through when I thought I had COVID-19, but it turned out I had sepsis. I’ve been thinking a lot about our medical system and its shortcomings and how people make unhealthy decisions for themselves. We haven’t taught people that they have control of their health. Your body is a complex machine that needs certain kinds of fuel. The wrong fuel will cause symptoms. Each body has different needs. We put too much faith in the opinions of medical doctors. It’s important to learn how to communicate with your body. There are good practitioners within the allopathic system who are open and willing to try alternatives. The idea of integrative medicine that combines different systems is what makes sense to me. If you’d like to share your thoughts with me on this topic, you can write to me at Joan@ProsperityPlace.com.
